Microsoft: GTA IV Exclusive DLC 'Not Possible' for PS3

Spong Writes: " Microsoft has denied the possibility that the Grand Theft Auto IV exclusive DownLoadable Content (DLC) it is paying an arm and a leg for could make it onto the PlayStation 3.'

chaosatom3336248d ago (Edited 6248d ago )

Still haven't finished the game, and probably won't after Mgs4.

I am glad that sony didn't spend a huge amount of money on DLC content. I mean it's still a DLC content, not a contract to a whole another game.

Sony should put that money to use on marketing and stuff.

MediaStream6248d ago

For a game with such insane levels of hype it is amazing to see the huge numbers of people who played the game for a week or so and are already bored with it. The previous GTA games had people playing non-stop for months.

By the time any extra missions come out it is doubtful that many people will still be playing or care at all about GTA4 if they haven't even bothered to play most of the actual game.

crck6248d ago (Edited 6248d ago )

Put about 35-40 hrs into it with only a 60% complete rating. Great game but thats enough GTA for me. Once the story was done I just have no motivation to play any more. Going on random kill missions or car hunting expeditions doesn't do it for me. MS can keep their DLC unless it has a lot of story behind it. I'll just put that money towards Saints Row.

BeaArthur6248d ago

The dumbest thing is that Microsft paid all that money and no one is completely sure as to what the DLC is going to be or how much it's going to cost. If it's a few missions for $20 then they can forget it, but if it's another campaign or some extra features that I'm interested in for the right price I might pick it up. The point is that we don't know what it's going to be, so this could very easily blow up in Microsoft's face.

Silellak6248d ago

I've had the game since release, and have been playing every day I can. I know someone who beat the game in a week and still rushes home to play every day. Everyone I know IRL who owns the game is thrilled with it.

Always take what you read on the internet with a grain of salt. People tend on the web tend to complain more than praise. There are lots of other people who are quite happy with GTA4, I'm sure. They just don't bother to come online and post about it.

Was the game overhyped by the media? Almost certainly. Do I still love it, and plan to grab whatever DLC comes out? Yup.

Lifendz6248d ago

if it's Vice City then bam: I'm jealous.

if it's some extra missions then lol. Like the game isn't long enough.

marinelife96248d ago

If PS3 has DLC coming who's to say it's the same maps and missions. Rock* sold 3 million copies on PS3 I'm sure they'd like to get some extra money off of that as well.

deeznuts6248d ago

Microsoft didn't complete the sentence. They forgot to add:

"Not possible on Core or Arcade models either unless you buy our expensive HDD"

lessthanmarcus6248d ago

....when I read about business school in a book, Rockstar made a terrible move. Yeah Microsoft paid 50 million and that is going to cover the cost of development. But they're gonna miss out on the potential millions of downloads from PS3 users. I have both systems and DLC wasn't the deciding factor for me. Having previous versions on Playstation systems is what I went by.

PiTCHBLaCK6248d ago

I Passed GTA4 and now working on 100 percent.
we play it often and I also play it online.

Proxy6248d ago

This is my first time playing any game from the GTA series, and I'm having a hard time finishing the game. If anyone cares. Also, deeznuts is my hero.

jadenkorri6247d ago

its going to be something like that, i think mircrosoft bought 1 expansion, i doubt R* would sell 2 expansions, 50 million for 2 expansions like vice city and san andrea would be off the wall, MS would be ripping off R* for sure, but the delivery method could be different, its totally possible ps3 and 360 will both get expansions like vice city and san andreas in years to come, and ms will have separate content...

jadenkorri6247d ago (Edited 6247d ago )

MS got the numbers for GTA 4, they realized that the 50 million was a mistake for the exclusive dlc, ps3 sold 3 for every 4 360 gtas sold, which 360 having exclusive dlc and MS expecting everyone to side with 360 didn't happen to what they expected and did not have that much of an effect towards peoples decision for which console they got it for

wallace10006247d ago

Why would anyone on this site care if microsoft spent all that money and that sony didn't and saved the money? Do people on this site actually own microsoft or sony shares?

samfk6247d ago

i knew bout downloadable content only on 360 ,but i mainly game with my american friend on ps3. anyway cut a long story short i dont think gta4 is much of an improvement on the older 1s! im trying to justify spending 45 pound on a mostly last gen game!

captainjy6247d ago

chaosatom333, your comments are obviously biased, but if the situation were reversed, you'd be screaming from the rooftops how glad you were that Phony spent tons of money for DLC and how much better GTA is on the POS3.

Like any game, after playing it for hours, it gets boring. Enter DLC on the 360. In a few short months or so, the interest will come back in full force and MS will more than get their money back. People will play it for a couple weeks and then put it down.

I am going to say what most are thinking, but won't dare to admit- GTA is not as great as it used to be, regardless of what platform it's on. Until Rockstar innovates and stops recycling so many things, GTA will be fun for the first 4 hours and then time to move on. Other than graphic improvements and animations, GTA 4 is not much different from previous versions, period.

godofthunder106247d ago

i think that they are both good systems but i think that sony is trying to make it look like they have a big lead over microsoft in consoles sold when David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe said that this is microsoft last shot.

the truth is that sony lost over a billion $ in their game division this year and microsoft made a profit in theirs again, and unlike microsoft they can't afford it,hell they had to lay off people, close plants down, and sold other plants because of the ps3 and even had to borrow money to finisd the ps3 before it came out.i know that it will get better but to keep saying that the ps3 has a big lead of the 360 is crazy, especially when the 360 is still outselling the ps3 and it will just get better when microsoft redlease the new 360 with all the problem fixed in a few months.but i think that in the long run the ps3 will sell more when it's all over but not by much because the 360 will be right behind the ps3.like i said i think that sony will win this console war but will lose a big percentage of the game market to microsoft so they both will win in the end.

i don't understand why people are saying that microsoft is the only one that pays for exclusive games, the truth is that sony pays to.not only does a company that release a game makes money when one is sold but the company that has the consoles make money to after a game is sold.sony gives some of their profit of the game back to the company that developed the game,so in the long run sony is paying a lot more the microsoft did for gta4.

people that think sony doesn't pay for exclusive game is just bias.look at it this way and think.you own a game developeing company and the more games that sold the more money that you will make as a matter of fact you will double your profit or more when you make a game for both consoles but instead of doing that you decide to make an exclusive game just for sony without any thing extra from sony and lose at least 100% or more profit but if sony said that they will give you a % of their profit to make up the difference and make you a better deal later on other games if you make a certain game exclusive just to the ps3 then it might be a good buisness deal to make the game exclusive to the ps3.some one who decide to make a game exclusive just to sony or microsoft without any thing extra and lose at least 100% of the profit isn't a good buisness man and i bet that the share holders will want the presideny a** of the game developing company that agree with sony or microsoft to do this.

some people claim that the reason a game company give sony exclusives for free is because they like sony but that is just ridiculious.just because you like a company you want let your own company lose over 100% or more profit, that could add up to 100s of millions of $s in your own pockets just so you could make sony more money is just stupid.people don't like to hear it but just like microsoft, sony pays for exclusives to,and don't belive everything sony said because they lied to us before to sell more units just like microsoft did.they are both big companies and didn't get where they are at now by being good guys because you have to be ruthless in the big buisness world to make it and stay on top like microsoft and sony did and i have all the respect for both companies to do it because it's not easy.

dan-boy6247d ago (Edited 6247d ago )

r* have already earnt 50mil, which will easily cover the studio time, and will then get a cut of the royalties from each download. and microsoft will re-coup that cash in the end.

the bottom line with this is: if you got the ps3 version, then you dont like the fact that you wont be seeing anything like this period. just look at all the comments above and below for proof of the sour grapes.

this will generate a fair amount of interest later on in the year. i'll be well finished the game by then. but i'll be looking forward to some new adventures before the year is out.

Based on the number of disagrees you have, I'm pretty sure people don't realize you are being sarcastic.

power of Green 6248d ago

They're dissagreeing becasue he's taking a gab at MSFT with his sarcasim suggesting MSFT is pulling our tails and PS3 possibly getting it despite what MSFT says. I agree he was being sarcastic but I dissagree how you always try and deffent PS3 fans intent. Useing Sarcasism to mask what he's saying doesn't fool the dissagree-ers.

GTA V 'not possible' on 360. - Sam Houser

Ru6248d ago

thats not exactly what he said and there are ways to get around the storage capacity size of a dvd9 but even so GTAV will most likely debut during the next generation of xbox's

smokeymicpot6248d ago

Well if they paid 50 million i wouldn't on any system ether

TrevorPhillips6248d ago

Yea but GTA V wont have downloadable contents for the ps3 and im sure Microsoft will figure something out till 2010 i mean theres still a long time

MediaStream6248d ago

Of course the PS3 will have DLC for GTA4, just different content. Rockstar has already confirmed this.

By the time any of this stuff does come out very few people will care.

Fallen_Angel6248d ago

Given the fact that the ps3 can barely run gta 4 and the 360 runs it just as smooth as can. Also gta 4 made 300 million it 1st week and abot 200 million of that for 360 sell plus anothe 50 million for the DLC. Like rockstar goin to walk away from that kind of money just to make the ps3 fanboys happy.

PiTCHBLaCK6248d ago

GTA4 runs good on our PS3, and
I've pasted it, so Fallen Angel your just
generalizing the PS3 owners.

Playdead co-founder slammed with lawsuit as bitter row with co-founder escalates

Playdead co-founder Dino Patti is allegedly being sued by his former studio and business partner.
Patti was threatened with a lawsuit earlier this year after he posted a now-deleted LinkedIn post that shared an "unauthorized" picture of co-founder Arnt Jensen and discussed some of Limbo's development. Patti said Jensen demanded a little over $73,000 in "suitable compensation and reimbursement," adding that he had "repeatedly" had such letters over the last nine years.
