Den of Geek: A few weeks ago we decided to rank all of Mario’s greatest platforming adventures that took the iconic Nintendo plumber to all ends of the Mushroom Kingdom. But our red-hatted, princess-saving, Goomba-stomping hero has appeared in so many games over the years that we soon realized that one list just wouldn’t be enough. So now we’re going to be ranking the many games of the Mario spin-off series, and first up is Mario Kart! So get your engines ready, and watch out for any stray blue shells, because here we go!
Even the biggest Xbox and PlayStation fans are jealous of Mario Kart. Thankfully, there are some decent alternatives for both camps.

Sony had the best one in Mod Nation Racers on PS3. That was a fantastic kart racer with great creation tools that allowed you to create/customize characters, vehicles, and tracks! Plus I liked that the game gave you the choice to expend power ups as either weapons, shields, or speed boost. It added an element of strategy not typically found in other Kart Racers. I would LOVE for Sony to bring that IP back!
