Can The Elder Scrolls Online PvP Restore My Faith In Player VS. Player Combat?

Many aspects of the ESO beta impressed me greatly but there’s still one particular area that leaves me with a few concerns and so I ask myself, can The Elder Scrolls Online PvP restore my faith in player vs. player combat?

"Many aspects of the ESO beta impressed me greatly"

Stopped reading there tbh. Still approved the article though :) Game isn't for everyone I suppose.

I'm not blind to the games problems, it has many but I also cannot deny its stronger points despite the fact I think it will totally fail in the pay-to-play space :D

For anybody who may care... it looks like the closed beta PTS added a couple of interesting changes!

http://www.reddit.com/r/eld...

- Collision detection with NPCs just got put in.
- You can also now skip the starter islands and go straight to the first city in your area. You can port back to starter islands if you want.

Zenimax is at least listening to their fans!

I for one cannot wait for ESO!

Well guild wars 2 is more balanced than world of warcraft anyday of the week. I dont think ESO can be more unblanced than wow. WOW pvp just sucks all the random rolls and classes that you have to accept your class cant kill thats unacceptable in pvp. Ive been in matches where 10 guys was trying to kill one person and it was hard to take them down. How is that fair or balanced at all. And other classes that can just one shot you. WOW pvp is just silly and thats why the Esports people ignore them no matter how much blizzard may try for them to accept wow pvp.

Looking forward to the game very much and definitely share your concerns on this front.

"We Like Where We are Right Now": ESO's Developers on Player Milestones and Elsweyr's Future

When Elder Scrolls Online launched back in 2014, I didn't find much exciting about it. It was an MMO that stuck close to the template established by World of Warcraft, rather than the Elder Scrolls games that preceded it. Elder Scrolls Online wore the clothing, but it lacked the heart and soul, and fans were open with their disappointment. Five years later, Zenimax Online's exploration of Tamriel is celebrating 13.5 million players, up 2.5 million from the previous year. It's a fantastic turnaround, one which Bethesda attributes to the players that kept enjoying the game.

Lack Of Cross-Play Is Holding 'Elder Scrolls Online' Back As The Industry Moves Forward

More and more games are starting to support cross-platform multiplayer and the lack of cross-play on Elder Scrolls Online is severely holding it back as the rest of the industry keeps moving forward.

Razzer2208d ago

Hilarious to see articles like this after all the bullshit posturing about cross play from Pete Hines and Todd Howard.

VenomUK2208d ago

Fallout '76 doesn't have cross-play - because Bethesda have CHOSEN to not put it in, Peter Hines said this himself!
The experience of The Elder Scrolls Online is not diminished by no cross-play and I suspect it is not a priority for Bethesda.

But this is an example of why games 'journalists' need to have a proper journalism training, so they understanding about why they should avoid projecting their own opinions, (this sounds like a rant) and also checking the information presented by a source to see if they are trying to influence the journalist/writer.

XtaZ2208d ago

ESO is not a Bethesda game and they have no say in ESO getting cross-play or not.

UncertainCategory2208d ago (Edited 2208d ago )

Whoa I very much disagree about your comment on ESO not being diminished by no cross play.

Have you every tried using matchmaking in that game? Or waited in a public dungeon for someone to show up? It can talk up to an hour depending on the content you’re chasing. The experience could be considerably improved if matchmaking could pull from all available players rather than segmenting them into three groups.

rainslacker2208d ago

Kind of funny that they say that, since I don't think any of the console makers seem opposed to supporting cross play with other consoles when it comes to MMO's like this, Sony based on FFXI, and now MS who's all about cross play. It was a big MMO that got Sony started on it, so is it really something that was pursued, or is this just some postulation by the articles author that this is the problem with ESO, which I wasn't even aware had a problem. Couldn't it just be that they never tried to implement it, because they could have done it on PC/PS, or Xbox/PC if they thought it was important.

william_cade2208d ago

No it's not. The shit MT scheme is holding it back. You have to wait to open the loot or pay not to wait. It sucks.

ocelot072208d ago

ESO has loot boxes now? Are you sure you are not being confused with Elder Scrolls Blades? That will have cross play once it releases on more platforms.

UncertainCategory2208d ago (Edited 2208d ago )

ESO has had loot boxes for a few years now. They do seasonal loot creates that contain unique cosmetics, potions, food, and other items. They can even drop EXP boosts for your character or mount. It’s not.. really pay to win I suppose but it skirts that line

I’m actually surprised ESO has avoided some of the loot create controversy, it’s super there.

No timers in opening loot though, that’s the mobile game Blades you’re thinking of.

King_Noctis2208d ago

Like ocelot said, the game you are referring to is Elder Scroll Blade, which is a shitty mobile game.

Elder Scrolls Online is actually a really good game.

thejigisup2208d ago

Crossplay should never make or break a game.

Vanfernal2208d ago (Edited 2208d ago )

No it isn't...

TheColbertinator2208d ago

ESO is fun at times but it has a few problems that ZeniOnline will never fix.

I would play a looter shooter like borderlands 2 forever. Not cause it's good, and it is... But because there's so much content there and ways to play and the endless guns would make it bearable.
