David writes: "It’s been a tough year for Nintendo and the Wii U. The adoption rate wasn't as high as they projected, consumers still routinely confuse the system with the old Wii, third party partners seemed to be moving away and now with the competition from both Sony and Microsoft's flagship next generation consoles. It took quite some time for Nintendo to realize that they need to rethink their direction and luckily they’ve improved in the past months, especially in the first party exclusive department. "
Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
Hanzla from eXputer inquires: "If Xbox can care about preserving its games and legacy, what exactly is wrong with Nintendo, trying to kill game preservation single-handedly?"
Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”
Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever
Nice one ☝️
This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.
No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.
Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.
Nobody wants this. Sales or the lack of it in the case of XBOX is very telling. I wonder how the adorably all digital series X will fare. Adorably dismal perhaps?
Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.
Danish from eXputer: "Nintendo has historically gone against player-made content and emulation of its games. This has done much to harm the company's image."
They need to stop announcing these mods and fan remakes until they're finished. Finish it, upload it, and then if Nintendo dmca's it tough shit. Once it's online, people can share it around, even if the original download gets taken down.
This is all coming from the mouth of short-sighted fandom and grifting madness.
No.... it wont. There is a clear defined reason why they don't. This is nothing new. Make your own shi7 from your own original ideas especially if you are trying to capitalize of it it. Duh.
Yeah, hire people that have zero respect or understanding for an established process. Wow. Yep. Totally makes sense.
I don't know anyone who suggested it would.
X looks to be an amazing game to have on the Wii. Absolutely loved the previous Wii Monolith game and can't wait for X.
In my opinion, Nintendo needs to come to grips with the fact that they once again made a console that was designed with their own first party developers in mind and stop making half-heated efforts to pad out the Wii U's third party support.
If they are able to, come out with a much cheaper Wii U version that doesn't include the expensive control pad that is targeted at core Nintendo franchise gamers who haven't bought a Wii U yet because it is too expensive and has too questionable a future.
200 or 150 dollar Wii U base console with no control pad. Along with the now, thankfully, much more filled out Nintendo main franchise games. An excellent 3D Mario is now out, Mario Kart looks excellent, Smash, and a new Zelda would make gamers pick up a cheap Wii U as perfect 2nd console to their PS4s.
Nintendo really needs to decide once and for all if they are going to be completely first party focused console maker or make the necessary changes in the future to make their next console be more appealing to third party developers.
"As I see it, there are two options for Nintendo: release a new console with a hardware far greater than the PS4 or Xbox One or to maintain a small yet avid install base with the current Wii U".
Yes, this is definitely Nintendo's only option. Without a doubt.
Burning the 6 million people who have already invested their money into a Wii U by ditching it (and in turn, them) and pulling a new even more powerful console than the PS4 and X1 out of their magic hat and selling it for $600 is the plan to end all plans.
How is this person not the CEO of an international brand?
Just another terrible opinion piece to add to the ever growing pile.
No one said it would. Considering Xenoblade didn't move a lot of sales in the US, why would X suddenly be the game to get?
Whoever wrote this obviously doesn't udnerstand it would cost Nintendo more money to scrap the Wii U and bring a new system in such a short time, then to try and fix the "issues" Nintendo has with the Wii U.
Building a new machine takes years, and rushing out a new system would cause more issues than the Wii U currently has.
It certainly can't hurt. It changed my friends perspectives on the console. Most of them were asking me if it was a PS4/Xbox One game XD.
Except for that one guy who claimed it to be a PS4/XBox One killer there's been no one claiming this. The game looks pretty awesome and all, but it's not getting The Witcher 3 sales.
...Although yeah I did buy my Wii U for it.
