Launch-Day PS4 Stock Readily Available in Japan

It seems the PS4 isn't as sold out as some pictures and articles would have led us to believe.
"Most shops had PS4s available on the shelves today, including major nationwide retailers and mom-and-pop independent game stores alike. I did find one store that was completely sold out of the PlayStation 4, but it turned out that the place only ordered a couple above its own pre-order numbers. Recent lukewarm launches of PSVita (December 2011) and Wii-U (December 2012) has made some shops a little bit gun shy about buying too many of a new console. Both of the aforementioned systems had respectable debut weeks, but interest fizzled out soon thereafter, leaving stores with uncomfortably high amounts of leftover stock. Even the 3DS, now a hot seller, spent its first six months struggling to move units. Retailers are wanting to be very careful and test the waters." -PSLS in Japan

OMG, its the end. The PS4 is over... LOL

360ICE4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

"I think it’s quite safe to say that the PlayStation 4 will have a great opening week. I’ve seen some gamer comments which expect this to outdo the PlayStation 2′s miraculous performance of 980,000 in two days, but I have to disagree with such predictions. Still, you don’t necessarily need PS2 numbers to be successful. I think PS4 will sell very well, but not hit that crazy-high PS2 figure. (But between you and me, I’d love to be wrong!)"

So, yeah, not really a doom and gloom article either.

abzdine4115d ago

there will always be shops with a couple consoles still available i dont see where is the problem.
but it's sold out everywhere in big retailers and be ready for some monstrous sales numbers for that small country.

gaffyh4115d ago

Apparently 2 consoles now means readily available.

Bennibop4115d ago

Sony have stockpiled for japan to ensure availability as there was so many shortages in the west. Such a flame bait article posted by and xbox fanboy. From what I have seen in media expect high sales for japan

Prime1574114d ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but... I'm just quoting myself on a different article about the same topic.

"There are roughly 126 million people in Japan and roughly 315 million in usa. And let's take into the account of 35 million Canadians for a sum of 350 million in north America. So 350 million people when ps4 launched in NA, and 126 million people when it launched in Japan.

Ok, now that is out of the way. 350 million people bought 1 million ps4s on November 18th.

Next, NA has about 2.7 more population than Japan (350 / 126 = 2.7 repeating).

So, for Japan to have a similar success it would have to theoretically buy ~370 thousand consoles (1 million consoles / 2.7 The % difference).

That means if they allotted more than 370thousand consoles in Japan then the supply caught up to demand. I'm sure someone else can put it more eloquently than my drunk self, but that's the basics.

Basically, you troll too hard and I pray something makes you stop soon for the next big step in mankind.

Edit: on a quick second thought, demand for both consoles has dwindled, and if the sales are less than 370 thousand I, personally, would expect it. However, anything more will be interesting."

360ICE4114d ago

@All of the above
How was any of that a reply to my comment?

@Prime167
Well, it's a little difficult to say. To be wrong you kind of have to make a point, something you did extremely poorly.

I mean, based on what you said, I think this is related.

- Consumer demand for consoles is traditionally higher per capita in Japan.
- PS4 sales have always been subject to limited supply.
- Demand hasn't "dwindled" in Japan like it (hardly) has elsewhere. The console was released just now.

OlgerO4115d ago

It all depends if they actually sold like 600000 then its not bad at all if that met the demand. But if they only sold 200000 then this might mean bad things for console gaming in Japan. ANyway to soon to tell what this means untill we hear the number of PS4s sold

Charybdis4115d ago

When more japanse centric games will launch sales will pick up

scott1824115d ago

It will be interesting to see the numbers, I'm guessing around 300,000 for week 1.

bleedsoe9mm4115d ago

people seem to think xb1 on shelves means its over , so the same must apply to the ps4 . of course both are crazy

badz1494115d ago

not sold out = DOOMED!

be fair here, guys! the XbOne is doomed for it, so it's just fair if the PS4 is doomed for it too.

badz1494115d ago

@cell989

I told you, right? look at truefan1 comment below you. THE PS4 IS DOOMED!

scott1824115d ago

High demand and high stock is good.
Low demand and high stock is embarrassing.

truefan14115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

So this was supposed to be the big knockout blow, lol. This was like on July 4th, you bring out the grand finale and its a dud. Sony used fake applause and created fake hype with all this sold out talk, let's be real here MSFT would be slammed for this. Based on all the talk of ps4 fanboys, I expected another million in 24 hours. This is bad news for ps4 in terms of the marathon, because for XB1 Titanfall will boost sales (1st day I played with guy who bought an Xb1 because he received a beta code) and with Halo 2 or 5 owning holiday season 2014 and 2015, by year end the race will be closer than you all imagined and possible even by 2016 with Gears of War and Crackdown 3.

PS stop flip flopping and being hypocrites, if XB1 having consoles on shelves months after launch is bad, then ps4 in its home Japan having consoles on shelves immediately after launch is bad. All we have heard is wait until Japan, well we waited and I m underwhelmed.

Whiskeyjacked874115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

You crack me up dude, only word I ever hear from you is "Titanfall" lol this article must have made your year! To bad all the bad news from X1 and the god awful sales trump any news in the gaming world. Go enjoy your game and please refrain from embarrassing yourself on here. You always sound so silly.

Gremdude4115d ago

Crackdown 3? Seriously? The first 2 games, though fun didn't exactly se the sales charts on fire. Hardly likely to sell consoles.

Allsystemgamer4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

So...wait...nearly 6 million sales on a console that's released in less than half of the x1 released territories and nearly doubling it's sales? Are you that stupid?

The Xbox 1 released in way more countries than ps4. The ps4 is nearly doubling the x1 sales being released in less than half of the places x1 did.

You're delusional.

TheSaint4114d ago

So not posting any more means posting lots?

So the more expensive bundles haven't sold out instantly in the course of a day. Are we supposed to be surprised by this?

I've pointed this out before...playstationlifestyle. net seems to go out of their way to find negative Sony articles, which always has been surprising for a site with "playstation" right in the title. I wouldn't have an issue if it was a legitimate news story, but wandering around on day one to photograph bundles on store shelves? This just looks like an excuse to throw cold water in the face of gamers for no reason. It's like they've gone to the Kotaku school of game journalism.

3-4-54115d ago

All PS4 has to do is sell more than 1.9 Million consoles in Japan, and it will have surpassed the install base of the 360.

It's not going to top Nintendo in Japan, but I think the PS4 could have a healthy fan base in Japan.

JustPlay44115d ago

I'm wondering how many unit they set a side for this launch I'm think a lot, sense this is the last big launch there is, now ps4 is everywhere

Knushwood Butt4115d ago

They had some available for people that hadn't pre-ordered when I picked mine up yesterday morning.

I saw about 4 or 5 sold while I was there, and everyone there was there to buy the PS4.

They had about 20 or 30 units behind the counter that I could see, and I got the impression that was all they had. If so, I'd say they are possibly sold out by now (Sunday morning).

Knushwood Butt4114d ago

Actually, I was just in my local GEO, and PS4 was sold out.

I took a photo too.

It's not sold out?!

PS4 is doomed! /s

knifefight4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

Exactly. It doesn't need to be sold out.

It's almost as ridiculous as saying everything was gonna be peachy just because a few stores had people lined up outside.

You usually can't know for sure how successful or unsuccessful a console will be just by its opening week. It's a nice indicator of the immediate future, but not the long haul.

Kribwalker4115d ago

Tell that to the xbox one haters

MONOLITHICIDE4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

^^^^^^^^^^^
Boo hoo! I want my mommy, is all I hear when reading your comment. Does it really upset you that much.

Kribwalker4115d ago (Edited 4115d ago )

No crying, just stating the obvious hypocrisy of PSN4G. Stock of Xbox one 2 months after launch and it's doomed. Stock of PS4 on launch day in the motherland and it's no big deal, it's to be expected. Thumbs up for double standards and hypocrites

And by the way your post sounds it sounds like your feelings are the ones that were hurt

yazter4115d ago

That's good news. Hopefully those who didn't preorder can get to enjoy the pS4

parentoftheyear4115d ago

Send some cameras back to us. :(((

NatureOfLogic4115d ago

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Star 'Absolutely Devastated' Over Backlash

Dragon Age star Alix Wilton Regan has given her personal response to the backlash faced by last year's Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and blamed the "mixed reactions" on people who "wanted to see the game fail, or wanted to see [BioWare] fail".

-Foxtrot1d 6h ago (Edited 1d 6h ago )

Blame everyone else...yeah...great stance

Gives off that "if you didn't like it then you are clearly one of those bigoted trolls" vibe

Lightning771d 1h ago

Who else's fault is it then? Let's talk about it.

-Foxtrot1d ago

There's not much to talk about, Bioware made a s****y Dragon Age game which was heavily dumbed down compared to their previous games.

Yes its true, some trolls were hating on it because of some silly reasons but the rest of people who actually had constructive criticism were lumped into those very same trolls to silence them.

Make anyone who actually has some valid things to say look like bad people so their criticism and opinions are automatically invalid. It's a PR move that has been going on for years, even Hollywood does it with films, it just causes fans to be at each others throats while the spotlight is taken off the games flaws and it becomes all about toxic fans. The developers then sit back, stir the pot while they get away with whatever they've done with their bad product.

OtterX14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

@-Foxtrot hit the nail on the head. For me, and many many others, it had nothing to do with transgender inclusion or whatever.... it was the dumbed down gameplay from previous titles that turned me off! It's cowardly to hide behind the social issue backlash and refuse to accept feedback on the actual game from the rest of us. We simply did not like the new gameplay.

So who's fault is it? Probably happened at the highest level, "let's make a dragon age dumbed down so that a larger audience will enjoy it, which will make us a lot more money!" Except... that backfired. Rpg gamers want deep rpg gameplay.Word got out that it wasn't.

joab7779h ago(Edited 9h ago)

The problem is that we’ve wanted a true successor to DA:Origins for years and never got it. Lorian literally learned from you and now makes your games better than you.
Don’t blame us for the fact that you know exactly what to make and choose not to every single time.
Be happy you sell what you do on name alone. BioWare was my favorite company for so long…

thorstein21h ago

Who do you blame when the hate comes before a game releases? (ie MindsEye)

mkis00713h ago

Exactly. People are hiding behind their real reasons bs...everyone knows this game was targeted before it could be properly judged..ie before it was even released people decided to trash it.

Lightning7720h ago(Edited 20h ago)

People originally hated the color pallette me included but I waited and wanted to look past the color scheme and what I played was solid. The characters aren't everyone's cup of tea ok I understand, but certain characters had a depth like identity struggle and navigating the world as their true self. Ok I like that character dynamic personally. I can go on but about what I liked in detail but anyway. People chose one thing to hate and ran with it and justified the reason each time leading up to release. DEI! Oh like mass effect dei same sex marriage? Where's the outrage for that all those years ago? Unwarranted amount of hate for stupid contradictory reasons. If you don't like for honest reasons ok cool respects but if it's bad faith then yeah not cool.

Now Minds Eye. I had to do some investigating. The studios biggest marketing promotion is from the creator of GTA Leslie Benzie already set themselves up for very high expectations. I know it's a way to get eyes on the game. You also have to deliver a experience that's at least on par maybe better with past GTA games. The pre orders went out with out gameplay or no real incentive to pre-order. So get your money now up front before we show anything. The "leak" and streamer showing "excitement" for the game. While comments are saying the game looks mid or at very least middling or skeptical comments. No deep dive gameplay just over a week away from Launch. They're already making road maps and promises already before the game even releases which also not a good sign. I dont hate for no reason if I see a game that looks weird I say something or I could be all wrong and the game could get a 80 meta after all. though I think it's gonna get a 57 meta personally.

PanicMechanic14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

There is literally dialogue of a character explaining how they need to pay reparations to another character in the form of doing push ups because they “misgendered” them. The dialogue in the game is hyper tolerant woke BS

It’s not the same as mass effect, not even close

mkis00713h ago

panic

sounds like an in game joke.

IAMRealHooman10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

@PanicMechanic Not how the scene played out. Isabela establishes that she made her crew do push ups if they fucked up, ( jobs, missions, anything,etc...) She misgenedered Taash and starts doing them on her own, Taash is confused until she explains it.

Now is Taash still badly written? Yes

neutralgamer19927h ago

It’s honestly frustrating to see what happened with Dragon Age: Veilguard. This is an established IP—fans knew what they wanted: a true sequel in spirit and tone to Dragon Age: Origins. Instead, Bioware overhauled the identity of the series so much that it barely resembles what made the earlier games great. Characters changing drastically, tone and gameplay shifting too far from the original formula—it just doesn’t land, and frankly, I’d argue Veilguard doesn’t even surpass Dragon Age 2.

If this had launched as a new IP, maybe expectations would’ve been different. But slapping the Dragon Age name on something that feels so disconnected only makes things worse. And once a game gets hit with that "agenda-driven" label—fairly or unfairly—it’s incredibly difficult to shake the stigma.

What makes it more frustrating is the tone from some developers. Telling fans, “This might not be for you” or “Don’t buy it if you don’t like it,” then turning around and painting criticism as toxic or bigoted when people don’t buy it—it’s not a good look. Open, respectful dialogue with the community is how the industry moves forward, not deflection or gaslighting.

Look at Black Myth: Wukong, or the excitement around Expedition 33. These games are succeeding on the merits of gameplay, world-building, and focus—not by leaning into polarizing narratives or identity marketing. Players just want well-made, fun, immersive games. It’s not that deep

lukasmain1d 3h ago

They never wanted to see it fail or the game fail, they wanted to see a good game with a good story that was in line with the original. They knew we weren't going to get this so they openly criticised everything about it. AND they were proven correct. The game sucked and failed in every way. Maybe you should have listened to the fans in the first place.

Blad3runner0013h ago(Edited 13h ago)

Perhaps people just wanted a proper Dragon Age game, not a Disney inspired Dragon Age, with awful writing.

MrDead13h ago

This game was changed from a live service to a single player game quite late in the development, I'm surprised it turned out as well as it did. The writing and the direction was screwed by EA marketing teams.

Then you had all the anti-woke psychos set loose by heavily politicised streamer grifters. How people take their directions from those nutters I will never know.

jambola8h ago

how are they grifters? are you just parroting what other people say or do you have proof

MrDead1h ago

Do you have proof that they're not?

I mean just look at Rumble who are funded by people like Peter Thiel and JD Vance or Turning Point USA training right-wing influencers and and paying troll farms to brigade and mass comment right-wing talking points on social media and streaming platforms and then you have the management group Today Is America that manage over 200 influencers and creators to spread right-wing sentiment to their young audience.

Like I said, grifters.

Please feel free to look up anything I've stated.

Star512h ago

wrong. it isn't a good dragon age game. as someone who's never played a dragon age game. I like it with no previous bias/ history. but I understand those who don't like the turn. But it's not a bad game (cheesy lines aside), it's fun to play

When I played this game I was in disbelief that I had somehow not played this franchise. I absolutely adored this game, and have since played two other entries. Been saving the two on 3ds. Next entry is easily a day one purchase.

i actually bought DQ8 on ps2 back in the day but mainly for the FF12 demo disc lol . I tried it but there were sooo many rpgs to play at the time that I think I played it for for a little bit before trading it in , maybe if they come out with a remaster/remake I'll try it out again
