German developer EA Phenomic is banking on the success of virtual collectible card games with its new title, BattleForge. The game is a real-time strategy title based on card decks and territory control rather than on building structures and managing resources. Players earn new cards for their decks by playing BattleForge's campaign and by playing online with or against other players. And therein lies the one thing that truly sets BattleForge apart from other RTS games: co-op play.
Theshigen writes "Battleforge was a rather novel idea. It combined collectable card game mechanics with real-time strategy, something new and fresh back in 2009. It's been re-released today as Skylords Reborn. A fan-made project that's made the gamer, completely free."
