Aww, that's too bad...

I'd be getting it on PS3 anyway. Although as excited as I was for this, I'm not even sure I want to buy it new. Not with the way they're holding a character back for pre-orders only. That's total BS. I would have supported them in a heartbeat if not for that.

"Not with the way they're holding a character back for pre-orders only. That's total BS. I would have supported them in a heartbeat if not for that."

Is that really where you draw the line with Arc System Works? Holding back a single character? Every other thing they've done is okay, but the second they make a "first run" (this is really more of an online pass) character, thats when we should get up in arms against them?

I phrase it like this, because Arc System Works has had some practices as bad, if not worse, than Capcom themselves.

I mean...

* They released 6 different versions of Guilty Gear XX over a 10 year period of time. This puts it on par with Street Fighter II, which had 6 different versions over a 20 year period of time.
* Unlike Capcom who makes costumes for their DLC, Arc has been content releasing pallet swaps and in the case of Persona, "glasses".
* ARC sold several early unlock DLC items.
* Their 3DS port of BlazBlue CS II was simply shameful. How you can excuse no thumbstick support is beyond me. Worst yet, that wasn't even the worst thing about the game.
* ARC has been testing the water by trying to cash in on trivial things like announcer DLC. Who wouldn't want their favorite character announcing things for a mere $5.99.
* In the original BlazBlue CS ARC charged $7.99 for each of the three DLC characters, though they were unable to do basic things like play arcade mode. This was something they revealed, though it's still sad they didn't try to prevent that.
* The two DLC characters in BB CP actually cost more than upgrading to Ultra Street Fighter IV.
* Their latest DLC character, Kokonoe, was so poorly made that she is almost universally believed to be too OP for tournament ( http://shoryuken.com/2014/0... ) play. So, despite being asked to pay $7.99 to play as her, you will get looked down on for actually doing so.

But no, none of these things are reasons to not support ARC, it's holding back a character that is the end all beat all offense that we should draw a line in the sand for.

I totally get where you're coming from man. I really do.

It's just, these issues all pertain to DLC. Their DLC practices are most certainly awful. However, I didn't have a huge problem with it because if I didn't want to purchase these things I didn't have to.

When they're forcing you to pre-order just to have access to a character that's already IN the game. Yes, that's when I get up in arms. I will not support that kind of thing.

Trust me, the issues you've mentioned have made me dislike Arc more and more as time goes on. It's just, this is the final straw that turned me from a pre-order to a buy used.

I don't know how I should take this "news".

On one hand, Arc System Works can be pretty lazy at times. I mean, the 3DS version of Blazblue didn't support standby (it turns off the screen when you close the 3DS/DS, online or the thumbstick. How do you even rationalize the game not supporting the thumbstick or standby. On the other hand, the last BlazBlue CP interview I saw ( http://www.siliconera.com/2... ) on Siliconera turned out to be untrue. This one sounds pretty definitive, though games like Dragon's Crown got cross-play out of nowhere, so anything is possible.

dedicatedtogamers3733d ago

Not too bothered by this, since I play this game for its SP only. As long as the framerate is good and the the sprites are crisp, I'm not gonna complain.

Out of curiosity, have any of the other fighting games on Vita been cross-play? MK, MvC3, Gods Among Us weren't cross-play, were they?

admiralvic3733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

While gamers like to hate on the game, Street Fighter X Tekken had cross-play. The same also goes for Dead or Alive 5 Plus.

Injustice, BlazBlue, MvC3 and several others weren't.

That's a damn shame really. BlazBlue CSII looked gorgeous on the Vita's OLED screen. Seperating the community will hurt Vita players.

skyrimer3733d ago

Then I'll probably skip it completely. Sadly there are not many people playing fighting games online on vita, and even less that are any good.

I'll better wait for GG on PS4 and play it remotely, or hopefully a USF4 PS4 release too. BBCP is getting very late to the party, I'd have probably bought it a few months ago, right now I'll wait for PS4 GG and play PS4 injustice remotely while training on my Vita Injustice version, thanks.

The 11 Most Hilariously Bad Video Game Titles Of All Time

Don't judge a book by its cover, but what about the title? Here are 11 game titles so bad they inexplicably failed to raise alarm bells before release.

Kados2074d ago

Chrono means "relating to time", Chronometer is "an instrument for keeping time". The proper translation for Chrono Phantasma would just be "Time Phantom".

BlazBlue's slow death and fighting game oversaturation

The current sad state of the BlazBlue franchise is an example of what happens when the fighting game market is oversaturated and fanbases are fractured.

I don't like multiple versions of games because that means if you want to play with new fighters, same way with racing games, you gotta drop money on a new game instead of updating the one they released already. Thankfully that won't be the case with SF V and Guilty Gear Xrd since they are just going to be updates for them rather than making it on another disc then releasing it again, including Mortal Kombat XL and Killer Instinct. Now this part i disagree with is fighting games being oversaturated!
it's called choices. Apparently this person never heard of it! fighting games can come in many different ways! they can 2d side scroll like SF, KOF, BlazBlue, Guilty Gear with characters that has cool abilities, 3D fighting games like DOA, Virtua Fighter and TEKKEN with realistic moves so no i wouldn't call this being oversaturated, it's a choice for ppl to make to what cater to their taste of brawlers they like.

kevinsheeks2966d ago

Quick question though doesn't each game further the story? could they implement new stories as dlc possibly?

Skate-AK2966d ago

Guilty Gear did get that arcade update but they are kind of doing the same thing as BlazBlue. They do have the same developers after all.

Vhampir2966d ago

Blazblue is probably my favorite fighting game, and knocked 3rd strike down a peg. When Continuum shift started releasing like it was Street Figther 2, I took a step back. I bought chrono phantasma on vita and it's online was even dead in a week.

Now it's just pointless to buy the vanilla versions of any of them. Bought CPE during the black friday sale for PS4. I'll probably wait for a sale before picking up central fiction EXTEND.

As a teenager growing up in the 90s, only fighting games offered us competitive gaming in the arcades and on the couch with our friends. Then the games industry changed and we all had way more games to choose from to get our competitive itch. For me the choice of fighting games is just right at the mo. However, I do believe releasing more than two versions of the same game in one generation is very damaging to that games community. I like the street fighter model going forward but Capcom still has much too learn, if they intend to release other games like this.

What's strange is I've just purchased this game. Never played a game from the series before but I've played a few arc systems games over the years. I bought the game for the single player action due to the content. Cost me the same as a couple of drinks in a pub from a second-hand shop.

I'm blown away by how strange but very cool this game is...

KaoSouL2965d ago (Edited 2965d ago )

I've played over 800+ hours of Blazblue (and counting), through 6 1/2 years, from the X360 to the PS4, with only $148.97 invested. Add in the fact Arksys also makes Guilty Gear and P4 Arena, they've easily entertained me in excess of 1,500 hours for less than $300.

Compared to $60 games I've only played through once.... Dragon Age Inquisition (120 hrs), The Last of US (14 hrs), Bloodborne (41hrs)... I literally have a $3,000 pile of next gen games that collectively haven't even provide 500hrs of entertainment.

Blazblue is the better value.
