Slim PS Vita to replace existing model, transition to take "days to weeks"

The slim PlayStation Vita will replace the current model, it has been confirmed.

Sony's UK managing director Fergal Gera said low stock of the existing launch model means it will be phased out in "days to weeks", depending on the retailer.

"[The slim Vita will] dovetail in behind very quickly, because there's very little stock of the Vita out there," he told Digital Spy.

"It's not like they're going to co-exist in any meaningful way for any period of time. There is no stock at all."

By being more expensive on it's own compared to the original with a memory card and games included and the lack of an OLED screen I'd say it was an out take.

People, now is the time to buy the original Vita.

Oh god... I just hope I can still get them to replace my OLED screen if anything happens to my original one.

My Vita is OLED and my TV and monitor are IPS/PLS (all three are similar technology). If I have to game on a LCD Vita it might be the end of Vita for me personally.

It's one of the only good news from the vita having such lukewarm sales ... at least there is a sizeable stock of Oled vitas in plenty store for the foreseable future

That is the Suggested Retail Price. Don't compare it to store prices.

Stores typically sell at MSRP, hence why it is the suggested price.

Look all they need too do is follow Nintendo sell 3 different models. They should at least sell a smaller screen size for teens.

Ok what's the significance of Nintendo having 3 different models(2ds & 3ds have a 3.53 inches display upper screen size & the 3DS XL has a 4.88 inches upper screen size). That's why they have the handheld market locked down. There's 3 choices for kids what handheld they want from Nintendo.

Yes I agree about the micro but look at the screen size for the 3ds vs 3ds xl. All I am saying is this vita 2000 should be 1 inch small size screen & sell the 1000 along with it.

No it doesn't, the original vita actually had an upscaler like the vita tv, but they took it out due to because they didn't use it in the old model and made the vita tv. http://www.dualshockers.com...

I'll still get the OLED vita if I ever plan to buy one. It'll be cheaper and will have the same specs.

Hmm. What to do...

I've been holding off buying a Vita as it doesn't have the catalogue of games I want to play right now, but with Remote Play I was thinking of getting one some day.

Now I see they are phasing out the OLED version... I've seen a few comparison vids of the new vs OLED screen, and it does seem a bit less impressive. Not sure how the rest of the Slim compares to the Phat.

So now I dunno whether to jump in and buy the OLED Vita before stock disappears - but risk rarely playing it. Or wait and buy the Slim that does, on the surface, seem inferior and not much cheaper (if at all)
