In the same amount of time it took my nephew to unlock all the guitar hero achievements, I taught my niece how to play every popular green day and nirvana song, read tab, and read sheet music. She shreds on a real flying v and he looks like a douche bag on a plastic stratocaster.

enjoying a game is one thing. Putting 100+ hours into a single game for a set of icons on your screen is retarded.

ANd yet people play games for hundreds of hours to beat the high scores in games like THE CLUB, PAC man, TETRIS and i guess all arcade type games.

Achievements give some sort of gratification of hours or effort put in doing something. When u hear the sound and see the popup on the screen it makes u feel good. ANd its not that all achievements are tagged on to make people play more games. They are mostly given during natural progression of a game to give you some sort of a pat on a back.

achievments can extend a games life, but ultimately they are pointless.

There is always someone out there with less of a life who will have a better gamer score than you.

a gamer score is no indication of skill either, my boss has double my score and i still kick his ass on most games.

You can't always compare single player with multi. Some single player achievements can be really hard to get and doesn't depend on another human making it easy for you (multiplayer achievement boosters).

Pointless only to people who dont own 360. You can compare your score with your friends and get motivated to beat their score. Why do u even have score in video games? Is there any point for having high score as well?

Acheivements are awesome because they extend my fun with games. I would never have considered playing a game on the hardest setting if I didnt have an achievement, I would just move on to the next game. However I have learned there is tons of fun in those harder levels and a sense of accomplishment finishing them. (of course I understand the accomplishment is no more important then the sense you get from any other leisure activity, but it still exist. And I dont go after achievements that are no fun to get [e.g most collection ones that require too much wandering, most MP ones...]).

I dont know about you guys but i never look at the achievement list until after i have completed the games once, everytime i do it turns me into an achievement whore and i try and complete the game with the achievements in mind so i'm not playing it like i naturally would which in a way spoils the game for me a little

cheivements can really add a lot to a game. Extend it life and make it funner to play. I do agree that some game are only hard and not really worth the time (GH be one). I try to unlock as many as I can on games I play but some of the one that take to long or require doin things that are not fun to me i just skip on.

Achievements is just a genius idea by Microsoft and of course the usual suspects are the only ones that complain about it. Don't worry, soon enough you will have something similiar once your "God" finally catches up.

A good game is a good game regardless, playing a game more than you usually would for some childish virtual points aimed at children (and the unemployed) is retarded IMO. If a game is really great you'll play it again anyway, suffice to say though that I don't think I've come across one game this gen where I've wanted to play more than once.

just look up the 'little rocket man' acheivement in the Orange Box - that's why acheivements are good. Who would ever carry a garden gnome through the whole game otherwise? But it makes you go back and play again, or play in a different way it can only be good.

I also like MP acheivements for each gun, stops people just using one gun.

Come on - who hasn't tried to get 150 kills with each assault rifle on COD4? Pointless, but its good coz you will use all the guns and not just stick to one.

I have tens of thousands of gamerscore points and have concluded that they are worthless. That is MHO and not something I put on anybody else. I just have found it more rewarding to beat the game than struggle for some silly achievement that in the end, does nothing for me.

I'm not saying you are lying but you sure have played a lot for someone who doesn't perfer the Xbox360. Or you only played gamer score whore games like Cars or King Kong (which explains why you don't perfer the xbox360 :) )

i personally don't care about achievements.. the only thing they're good for is that they stop you from cheating in some games (looks at GTA) but other than that.. they're OK.. as in i wouldn't mind if there was a extra feature, but it wouldn't be necessary ...
