A Few Free PC Mods May Keep You From Buying Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition

GG3 gets the latest news about Capcom. While the publisher is finally releasing an easy to play version of a classic with Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition for $19.99, it's already possible to get there for free with the regular PC port, through the magic of mods. Some may even be better.

I've heard from a few fellows on here that the 2007 build is 30fps but the mods make it look insanely good. I dunno if it's worth $20 for 60fps.

Worth noting is that the mouse support mod isnt very good since the aiming is analog and not digital, meaning no matter how fast or slow, or how little or how much you move your mouse, the aiming in game will not reflect it.

Great info, thanks! It's just a suggestion, but that's definitely something to work into the muscle memory for those willing to give it a go. Otherwise: Controllers yo.

Kurylo3d4153d ago

RE4 sucked anyway. Its the the point the RE series turned into an action game with giant robots and monsters that mutate to skyscrapers with no explanation of where the blood or bone or muscle grew from.

NeXXXuS4153d ago (Edited 4153d ago )

RE4 was the last Resident Evil directed by Shinji Mikami, the father of the Survival Horror genre... Resident Evil 5 is when the series turned into an action game. Have you been living under a bridge?

Resident Evil 4 scared the hell out of me. There were many points where I ran out of ammo and actually had to conserve what I had just to get by in certain situations. The regenerators were probably one of the most frightening things in the game.

Resident evil 5 just handed out ammo and even gave you an AI team mate. That just takes the scare factor out of the game completely.

Roccetarius4153d ago (Edited 4153d ago )

Shinji Mikami is indeed the one responsible for bringing Action into Horror. He's trying to redeem that with The Evil Within.

I didn't like RE4 either, compared to the previous games. It's a good Action game, but that's it.

Kurylo3d4153d ago

re4 and re5 gameplay are identical. Completely identical. Even dogs that drop shotgun shells when they die identical. lol.

Matt6664153d ago

no offence but you must get scared very easily if you find that pile of rubbish scary, there was no horror in it at all it was just a boring action game, go and play RE1-CVx then you see what was a proper RE game. Unlike RE 4 where you could buy your weapons and health (and even do upgrading) in the older RE's you had to find your weapons and health (and there was NO upgrading) you couldn't always see around the next corner, you never felt alone, there where proper monsters (for example zombies, zombie dogs, hunters that could kill you in one hit), you had a limited number of saves (due to the amount of type writer ribbons you had). I could go on but I think I already made my point why RE1-CVx is better then 4-6.

fossilfern4153d ago

I wasn't a fan of RE4 either and remember playing it the day it came out and was pretty let down for it being an RE game. Still not convinced about Evil Within from what I've seen it reminds me of too much of RE4,5 and 6. In the game play video they are rehashing that 'stuck in the house, stop the horde coming through the windows' trope.

But Capcom have milked RE4 to death.

There were no dogs in RE4 except the one you rescue at the beginning of the game. Know your facts.

@matt - You die in one hit from chainsaws too, but that's probably just me. And last time I checked, there's an unlimited option for dying and restarting from your last save. I played the remake for Resident Evil on the gamecube and I had no problem with the limited ink ribbons as I didn't have to save all the time because there was no need to. Resident Evil 4 didn't require saving very often either as I wanted to keep progressing through the game. Nowadays, games don't even have save points anymore and it's all just autosaves or saving at whatever point in the game you feel like.

Jack_Of_All_Blades4153d ago (Edited 4153d ago )

Perhaps I will just mod it , and to the person above Resident Evil 4 imo is the best Resident Evil yet. And I am sure many others agree with me

Ex-Naughty Dog Dev Says Resident Evil 4 Inspired Uncharted and Many More Action Games

Former Naughty Dog dev says Resident Evil 4 inspired Unchartted and even Gears of War, particularly the over-the-shoulder camera view.

CrimsonWing6917d ago

It revolutionized third-person shooters, in a genius way that gives you full control of aiming.

CrimsonWing6917d ago

No, I mean RE4. Like the whole snap to over-shoulder and precision aiming was what I meant.

I won’t deny Winback does pave the way in some respect. But it’s not the same at all.

InUrFoxHole17d ago

Both are great series. That's awesome

Samonuske17d ago

I thought this was common knowledge. Resident Evil Revolutionised over the shoulder aiming in 3rd person shooters/action games

italiangamer17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Influenced basically every third person action game made after it, GTA uses the over the shoulder perspective when shooting since the 4th installment, Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2 too and the Batman Arkham series has the over the shoulder perspective as the main camera throughout the whole game series.
Obviously there are a ton more examples but you get the point 🗿.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Levii_9226d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil26d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
