Todd Papy New Game Director at Crytek, Working on “Unannounced Project”

Colton Steury writes: "Crytek is working on a new, unannounced project with Todd Papy, famous for his work on the God of War series, as the director. Given Papy’s history, it’s likely this new game is an action title, though there is no indication as to if it is a sequel to Crytek’s recently released Ryse: Son of Rome, or a new game entirely."

it´s darksiders III in collaboration with nordic games.

Riderz13374164d ago

Yup I think so too. Soon as I heard he went to Crytek, I remember they recently purchased the Darksiders IP.

MegaSackman4164d ago

Not exactly, Nordic Games bought the IP. Most of the staff of Vigil Games work at Critek right now, and Nordic Games said that they would like to work with people who know about the genre.

It could be, but...

SamPao4164d ago

Oh daaaaaaayum that would be brilliant!

Dark114164d ago

PLEASE GOD LET IT BE DARKSIDERS 3!!

Ryse 2 most likely though.

Alex_Boro4164d ago

Could be Ryse 2 since he worked on the god of war games.

Darksiders 3 could very well be it, too. Homefront 2 and a next-gen Crysis 4 are still in the running, though.

Eldyraen4164d ago

Crytek actually has multiple studios and was already working on Homefront 2 (which is why they bought the IP when went to auction) so don't think its necessarily that one. I haven't really followed Crysis after 3 much but heard they were possibly looking into going into a new direction with the new one so maybe they finally decided on where to take it.

Personally I'd hope for a Darksiders 3, Ryse 2, or even a new Action/hack and slash game from this guy.

WrAiTh Sp3cTr34164d ago

I respect how Crytek is enhancing it's game's portfolio, it's what I would aspire to do as an indie dev.

Pandamobile4164d ago

Homefront 2 was already announced.

PixelNinja4164d ago

Homefront or Darksiders most likely.

DF Direct: Crysis 4's uncertain future is a grim portend for the industry

Crysis 4 is "on hold" and Crytek is facing layoffs - so what does that mean for the company that was once Germany's biggest games dev + the industry as a whole?

I really want to see a Crysis 4 with all the ray-tracing & path-tracing effects. It would be a shame if they canceled the project. Maybe they could do a kickstarter?

DF
" Crysis is something of a tentpole game series for us at Digital Foundry, with a reputation for being an early adopter of graphics technologies that would later define entire generations of PC and console video games. That includes the likes of screen-space ambient occlusion, sub-surface scattering and ray-marched volumetric lighting, but you could write volumes about just how ground-breaking that first game was "

isarai117d ago

I really hope they come out and push the industry forward like they used to. I miss old crytek

PrinceOfAnger115d ago

They all look disappointed by this news especially Alex

JEECE115d ago

Pretty sad that the studio that gave us a monumental game like Crysis is now subsisting on microtransactions from a live service PVPVE game.

Crytek went so overboard on the Crysis tech and sent devs to photograph leaves in Haiti

"The shader work that came out of this was mind-blowing at times."

RaidenBlack158d ago

Amazing, often misunderstood
The dumb AI was deliberate, so that the players can explore and experiment with the world and all the features.

vTuro24157d ago

It really is. Most people only remember it for its graphics but the gameplay was equally amazing.

RaidenBlack158d ago

Hope they try to pour nearly same amount of dedication to the new Crysis 4

DefenderOfDoom2158d ago

Well worth the extra work ! I enjoyed all 3 Crisis games and would also love a new one .

JunonZanon158d ago (Edited 158d ago )

Still wish game development was overall this passionate and minutious about their projects. Obviously, there are still some great studios as exceptions.

LikAChicken157d ago

I’ll never forget Far Cry 2 and the amount of details they packed in.

Yea there were some issues with the gameplay loop and the sickness aspect but you could tell they really tried to nail details.

DivineHand125157d ago

I haven't beaten the first Crysis but I did play Crysis 2 and Crysis 3. I know some PC players were annoyed by the last 2 games being developed with consoles in mind but I believe it was an improvement. I had a great time with Crysis 3 to the point where I believe it was too short.

Crytek Gives Brief Update on New Crysis Game; Studio Has a "Great Team" Working on It

Crytek gives an update on their new Crysis game, confirming that it's still in development, with more to share down the road.

DefenderOfDoom2560d ago

Actually would love a new Crysis campaign.

P_Bomb560d ago

Ditto. Ran through them again last year. I’ll grab the new one.

Crazyglues560d ago (Edited 560d ago )

Yeah they really messed up by not adding the Multi-player to the Crysis Triogly because while the campaign was fun I really loved the Multi-player and couldn't wait to see what it was going to be like on current gen.

They could have dropped new maps and DLC and fans would have bought it up... -But they dropped the ball and did just the Campaign's with no new content or story, which was just crazy.

Anyway still hoping Crysis 4 is the whole Chicken Sandwhich with all the toppings.... Can't wait.

PrinceOfAnger559d ago (Edited 559d ago )

Yeah It will probably be 5 years development

SimpleSlave559d ago (Edited 559d ago )

That's awesome. So how long till the studio closes and everyone gets fired?

purple101559d ago

Series S owners: "but can it run crysis doh?"
