To prepare for PS3's biggest launch game, 1up got together three editors in the office who have been playing ridiculous amounts of it over the past week and posed a series of questions to them for one last preview before launch.

Like i said Sony really need to talk to the Dev's and force them to bring some next gen games to the table(not just pretty good graphics)or Sony's going to have it's own handi-capped grading standards form reviewers. It's all about hardware with Sony and that isn't going to move consoles, judging 7th generation is the most critical so far. Sony fanboys are basing their hate for 360 games on what they think next-gen games should "look like" but forgeting the next-gen "design and gameplay" all the 360 games are getting such high scores for.

Condemened, COD2, PGR3, Kameo, King Kong, PDZ, and a slew of xbox live arcade games and demo's up and running on the 1st day that were all exciting to hear about before the 360's launch! The PS3 launch titles suck and there is nothing exciting about the games for it at all! You are purchasing a console that does not focus on games which in my opinion is not even in the same ballpark as 360 and it's games now and in the future! People bought the 360 because it was the only "next-gen" system out. Now people have a choice. They can buy a 360 with games like GOW, FEAR, COD3 or pay more for the PS3. For me, the choice is simple, the 360 is a true next gen system with a proven online network, offers me the games I want (GOW, Bioshock, A. Wake), and at a cheaper price. Can't wait to see what the movie service is like.

I agree Halo's AI is too advanced for such a weak slow world. The weapons ect in Halo needs it's revolutionary AI and wouldn't work on PS3, H3 wouldn't work on PS3 neither.

Well I must say this article left me with a mixed sense about this game. The first part of the review/preview is quite glowing in regards to the game overall...they seemed to really be praising it, but then you get into the later part of the article and they definitely pointed out some glaring weaknesses to the game.

Overall I think this game is a good title for the PS3 launch. It certainly doesn't sound like the killer app that all wanted it to be. I will say this coupled with COD3 will give the PS3 a solid FPS lineup for launch. I also believe FEAR is coming to the PS3 just not sure its launch or not. Regardless...its a good start for the PS3.

The one item that really caught my attention was the old "invisible walls" comment. After hearing so much about the massive "free roaming" battle enviornments it would have I was pretty surprised to see they had them.

Oh and the comment about the AI, while not exactly horrible it was certainly less than what I was expecting. They made the grunt soilders sound very run of the mill in terms of their actions.

COD2, GRAW, PGR3, Fight Night, and Oblivian were all great games through out the year for 360 and all recieved great reviews! PS3 has nothing and nothing coming out that compares to 360 as of yet and anytime in the near future so what's your point? That was not exactly a glowing review. From the sounds of it this game will get a 7.0 to 8.0 depending on the system preference of the reviewer. Still gonna be a must have at launch due to the small library on offer. Reviewers arent always in tune with the average gamers expectations of a game. My brother in law has 3 preorders so hopefully he keeps one and I can try this out for myself. I personally think the story concept is really cool and FPS games never get old for me.

Nextly, What makes an FPS is the Event System in it. And if it has an Event System similar to HL2 then this is a great game.

Dont try to sugar coat this review cause I think they were being polite while saying this game is crap. I for one think it may be better than that but lets not be blind to what they really said. I have to say that reviews go by preference. Yeah you get some good insight into how the game is, but shouldn't be the deciding factor. The 1up guys didn't seem to give a negative view of the game at all. They just answered the questions that were given to them. They told what they felt was good and what they didn't like. No game is perfect no matter what. We all have things that we like about games, and things we don't like about them. That doesn't mean we don't like a game. Playing Gears all night, there were things that I thought was awesome and some things that I thought they could've worked on. I'll say it, I think its kinda repetitve at times, but at the same time, when a game is good, you over look the little things and enjoy it. I played Gears co-op with my friend and he was complaining about stupid stuff that have nothing to do with how the game plays. He's one of those people who have to find the chink in the armor and its nagging because it didn't overtake the fact that I just chainsawed that guy to death or I roadie ran (such a awesome move) from point a to point b while trying to be killed by killer bat things. If you wanna play Resistance cool. If you don't cool. If you want a PS3 cool. If you don't want one, cool. Why is it that there's constantly a bashing of not only Sony or MS or Nintendo but the people who want their products? I can understand bashing fanboys cause they usually have something stupid to say, but other people who are just purchasing something for their own enjoyment, why do they have to be insulted? That's just not cool. Are we all supposed to choose things based on others opinions? Sony's not dumb. They know that FPS are big in America. They've come out with a solid exclusive FPS for the PS3's launch. I say well done and good start. I look forward to playing this game about 2 years from now after the PS3 has dropped in price, and the game is a "greatest hits".

One thought, however, what happens if Sony loyals finally get a taste of a good FPS and realize the 360 is very strong in that genre? If UT2007 is indeed PS3 exclusive, it may be ok for Sony...I just wonder what Sony has up it's sleeve to counter Halo 3 this time next year.

Killzone. Apparently they don't want to detract attention from Resistance, so they're not going to show anything until around March supposedly. There's also a lot of big franchises that haven't been revealed in next-gen form yet (Socom, ATV, Sly Cooper, Jak, etc)

This looks like a bad preview...In fact, its everything people have been saying...."but doesn't strike me as really groundbreaking"...WWII maps with aliens...to many cut scenes which probably explains the 20 Gigs. This is supposed to be the ps3s gem...the one to get...and this preview was not great...the same site went crazy with excitement when they previewed GOW. Looks like this game is going to be like our Perfect Dark Zero. Another good game, but nothing special. Perfect Dark Zero averaged about 8/10 score.

With all the bad news PS3 has been getting...it's kinda funny seeing all the sony fanboys team up and name call on a xbox fan. And now we have a sony fan boy reaching back into time with a rumor about Halo 3 coming out at the same as PS3??? Thats your best??? Thats the best dirt you can come up with??? It was larger, but apparently the PS3 is powerful enough to re-format video on the fly so they just made the NTSC version and let the system convert that to PAL when used in europe.

That leaves 16 GB of game data, which is essentially two DVDs.

Yeah, thats a childish comment but when you have been saying something for months and fanboys don't listen thats how you feel when it happens. Now this is just one small review and a few opinions, so its not the "verdict" on RFoM, in fact I think it will be a good game thats fun to play, and hell it still seems to be better than PDZ, but it does shed light on the fact that it doesn't seem to be anything notable in the "AAA" category and far from the "killer app" as suggested by only the most "extreme Sonyfanboys". Calm down (fanboys) I'm sure PS3 will eventually have its share of AAA exclusives and hopefully some "*killer apps" like GOW, which is very likely to be the game of the year....*note-there is a difference.

Now with that said, its unfair to "expect" so much from a launch game....which is WHY I say "I told you so." -cause Sonyfanboys have downplayed every game on the 360, and accused GOW as just being all "hype".....I've said for months that it will be a while before PS3 will have a AAA exclusive out, but NO the fanboys have tried to imply RFoM would be some kind of glorius FPS that would "set the bar" for the PS3 for launch. -Well again, it just doesn't seem to suggest what the PS3 is truly capable of, but if you understand what I'm saying then that's definitely a good thing.

With all the bad news about the PS3 with poor reviews of launch games, frame rate issues, games without online, developers implementing their own game ID’s, game cancellations and game delays, Sony’s launch is looking pretty bleak right now.

Hopefully Motorstorm will get some better news to people who purchase the PS3. I really hope that Sony pulls something out their a$$, as I really want the PS3 to succeed, in which I believe it will. This way both companies can really fight to give us gamers quality products, and have the drive for innovation to make our gaming experience that much better.

For if the PS3 fails, that will just put MS into lazy mode, and us gamers suffer. That is why I stuck to computer gaming last gen, as the PS2 and Xbox were pretty boring consoles. And with really only one system dominating last gen, the PS2 really did suck from a standpoint that all it was, and still is just a gaming console.

The PS3 does have some very redeeming qualities. I have the 360 and love it, but regardless what 360 fanboys say, having a bigger medium to store data for games is a “plus”. Personally I would never use my 360 to play DVD’s, I only use stand alone players for that, but it also gives people who choose to watch HD movies the chance. But this came at a price, and unfortunately I think Sony got a little ahead of it’s time. They face laser shortages with high prices. Blue Ray for most people is, well is useless as HD movies on monitors under 42 inches would be hard pressed to tell a difference from an upscaled DVD movie.

I really think if the “Next Gen” started roughly 3 years from now, where big screen TV’s and 1080p were the standard, the PS3 would most likely have taken off. But as I see it, Sony is really going to struggle with this console. And all this negative news is not helping. Hopefully they can fix this real soon, cause as long as we have 2 competing consoles, then it forces both companies to work for us as gamers, not the other way around.

Aside from the minor stuff like getting stuck (literally) somewhere you weren’t supposed to be or an A.I. teammate not opening a door that he was supposed to, there was a larger issue that really needs to be addressed; texture rendering.

There are times in the game where it can take 15 – 30 seconds for textures to appear in various parts of the game. It only happens when a level is first loading but it is pretty annoying and looks awful. We are fairly certain this is not an isolated incident because the problem popped up on all three consoles we played on. "
