Sega shuts down Shining Force Online, dev takes new project to Kickstarter

Shining Force Online, which had just launched it's beta has already been shut down by Sega (as of December 24th). The developer, having spent the better part of last year working on the title has decided to take the "non-Sega version" to Kickstarter.

Titled "Shining Empire", the game will feature armies with hundreds of combatants, a massive open world, and a set of unique creation tools so that users can build their own games from the engine.

In their defense, Sega is perfectly okay with the indie scene on the Dreamcast. It seems once you start messing with their IP's free or not they take issue.

What defense ? they either sit on their collective asses with such franchises , or ruin it once every 3-5 years and then blame it on the lack of appeal of said franchises , that they still refuse to let go

It's their property though. They are within their right to run it in the ground, ignore it, whatever they want.

It would be nice if Sega would back these games instead of shutting them down. Streets of Rage Remake is great but Sega shut that down too.

If I was a billionaire I like Buffet or Gates I would invest 50 billion in Sega. Make myself CEO and bring Dreamcast 2 and I don't care if I lose all my bazillions. Give me the OLD Sega back damn it at any cost!

Things I would do day 1 as Sega CEO.
1. Find all the original programmers for the Sonic team. They are long gone on to other company's now. I would hunt down and offer a pay rate that could not refuse $$$.

2. Turn Sega into a privet company and pull out of the stock market so I can do crazy stuff like Valve and get away with it and not answer to investors.

3. Bring all the classic games back on Dreamcast 2.

4. Have a fanbased vote website for what Sega game comes next. Whatever gets the most votes gets made.

5. Open a Sega amusement park bigger then Disney world. Spare no expense.

6. Make every old game online and free to download. Street of Rage co-op anyone?

7. Snort coke of a hookers sweaty arse crack.

8. IDK.

If you were a billionaire like Buffet... then you wouldn't be a billionaire for long!

It would take a lot more than money to fix Sega at this point. You would be better off taking that money and starting your own company and poaching the best talent out there.

Or you could use the money to help the poor and needy but whatever...
