lmfaooo i had to, the title was just set up like that.

anyway lool, I wasn't really expecting a VR headset coming at this time, I am fine with just a controller.

GarrusVakarian4186d ago (Edited 4186d ago )

Well that's a kick in the nuts, i thought VR on PS4 was a sure thing? And i also thought it would be revealed soon? Man, i am disappointed.

Im happy with just a controller too but VR really interests me. Im all about that immersion.

minimur124186d ago

Didn't Sony do a behind the doors showcase of their VR headset at E3?

Or am I making things up :S

I swear I remember reading that somewhere...

theDivision4186d ago

I think you'll see one coming within the PS4's lifetime (Or maybe they will decide to wait and make it a big selling point for the next one)

LordMaim4185d ago

@minimur12: It was part of their streamed conference on Monday. They showed it, and described it as having a virtual 750" screen that you could look around to see all parts of. I don't know what this article is talking about, because they seem to have not watched the live stream.

Treezy5044186d ago

Funny bubbles for you, that is a good one :D

doctorstrange4186d ago

nDreams doesn't say this, they just say they're not doing a game for it. It may, or may not, exist.

BISHOP-BRASIL4186d ago

I don't know what people are talking about there really. VR support is not really console based... Well, it need the console to have some way to do head tracking (camera) and be capable to output 3D Full HD and 7.1 sound (HDMI). That's about it for the compatibility issue, so PS4 is already pretty much VR Headset compatible. Heck, you can plug the latest Sony HMD 3D model to your PS4's HDMI port right now if you are willing to pay the 1000 bucks bill. The only problem is that the game itself need to support proper stereoscopic 3D and head tracking for that VR immersion (which no PS4 game yet support as far as I'm aware), otherwise it's basically a headmounted TV and headphones.

So the VR support is really on a game to game basis. In fact, if you plug one of those pricey VR headsets on PS3 along with an Eye camera to play Gran Turismo 5 it works like a charm! So it's not even a "next-gen" thing.

What people should actually be asking Sony, nDreams and whoever else is:
#1 Are we getting a more AFFORDABLE VR headset?
#2 Is the game _________ going to support VR headsets?

fr0sty4186d ago (Edited 4186d ago )

Sony was researching and patenting VR long before any of you ever heard the word "Oculus". Shu even hinted that they were in talks with Oculus, when he tweeted "I say Oculus, you say ****?" to which one of the Oculus crew replied inviting Shu for a tech demo. If Sony did not decide to license Oculus tech, it means they were already farther ahead with their R&D than Oculus was.

Albie3604186d ago

That is very sad. Would have done more for gaming than this stupid game steaming service of all the games we already played.

This will be a true way to immerse yourself in the game. Put on virtual headset with body tracking and headphones and you are completely immersed. Hopefully when the ps5 comes we will have VR.

Anybody remember VR troopers?

BlackTar1874186d ago

WE ARE VR.

LOL i used to watch that show knowing it was awful and still enjoying it.

JED the talking dog.

adorie4186d ago

VR troopers... Ohhhh. I feel pain just thinking about it. XD

JohnnyTower4186d ago

That's too bad. But Sony needs to drop the price on their HD Headset first. That unit is still $1000 and has no head tracking. It's scary what the VR headset would be worth.

Pandamobile4186d ago

Sony's probably a year or two behind Oculus when it comes to VR usability and R&D as well.

JohnnyTower4186d ago

Is there even a price point set for the Rift yet? They may hit the same roadblock of high price and low adoption rate.

Ingram4186d ago

Sony patent from 12\13: "The patent also gives details about the headset at large. (...) include an in-built camera that can detect pupil movement and blinking, adjusting the game image accordingly; a biological sensor at a frontal contact region that can detect "body temperature, pulse, blood components, perspiration, brain waves, and cerebral blood flow"; a posture-detection system to feed information to the game about head tilting and body movements; and moving-object detection that can both replace the object with a virtual one and simulate the object's real-world movement in the game."

Pandamobile4186d ago

The dev kit was $300. I imagine the consumer version will be $250-300 as well, which is a damn good price for something as awesome as it is.

thehitman4186d ago

I doubt it Sony been researching this since ps3 came out Oculus is farely new.

Pandamobile4186d ago

Sony's only HMD products thus far have been extremely expensive and not very good.

Oculus is very obviously the leader in the VR gaming field. They've got the ambition, some of the best hardware and software people in the industry at their back (Carmack, Gabe Newell et. al at Valve), seemingly endless amounts of investor money, plus tons of other industry support already.

Sony will be playing catch up from day one if they actually do go to market with a VR gaming headset.

sonic9894186d ago

seriously Sony is way bigger than some random people even though i know most of them but really do you think Sony are stupid they have the best engineers in the industry also Sony is a japanese company that alone is enough of a reason

jollygoodchap84186d ago

Console fanboys are funny...Valve/Steam/PC is random people?.....yep ok

sonic9894186d ago

@ jolly
since when PC became people .
valve is a software and service company and has nothing to do with hardware engineering and of course cant match sony's abilities in terms of hardware expertise .
carmack please that guy should build his spaceship already XDDDD if he can.
and of course other random people .
i was wandering how many members are there in the project ?
and how much money they have invested or own ?
in both questions sony are winners ( money and staff ) without even thinking

specialguest4186d ago (Edited 4186d ago )

There are many issues with VR that the Oculus people are actively addressing now such as the nauseous feeling a lot of newbies get when the movements of the game is off. Theres also things like the importance of 60fps as a mandatory requirement for VR and how the forward and backwards tracking is vital. One big factor was the Oculus community's feedback which helped provide some of tgese discoveries. This is why Oculus is years ahead of Sony when it comes to VR.

Simply building VR product and setting it out in the market isn't enough for such an old tech fantasy which technology finally caught up with to make it possible on a practical level. It takes a collective effort from different people like tech experts and engineers, devs, and a community of ethusiast to tackle any issues in this new frontier of practical VR. This is what Oculus represents.

My hopes were up too. Doesn't mean it's not in the works, just not as soon as we'd hoped. But can this developer speak for Sony like that? Wonder is they'll respond.

webeblazing4186d ago

And soon people here will go back hating on vr n oculus rift

starchild4186d ago

Yep. Because if Sony's not doing it, it automatically sucks.

Next-Gen PSVR2 Announcement from nDreams Incoming

nDreams : Four down, two to go... 👀

2022 has been HUGE for us already but we're not done yet! 😱 We've got two more titles to announce in the coming months, including our first next-gen VR title for PS VR2...

SullysCigar1153d ago

These guys have made consistently great VR games, even with the earlier tech. Can't wait to see what they have planned for next gen VR.

1152d ago
Azurite1152d ago

Current gen is called "next gen" because it's hard to find PS5s at normal prices.

traumadisaster1152d ago

I’m not completely opposed to that view, no reason for the down votes. With this being the hardest gen ever to secure hardware there is merit in your thinking.

SullysCigar1152d ago

Well, I am opposed to that view and there's a good reason for the down votes. With PSVR being the first gen, PS VR2 - particularly in regards to the massive advancements to the tech - is next-gen VR, which was the point in the title.

If it wasn't clear from the title alone, it was certainly clear in the article description, where it says "next-gen VR title".

Not trying to sound harsh, just having fun riffing on the reply above.

Babadook71152d ago (Edited 1152d ago )

‘PS VR2 - particularly in regards to the massive advancements to the tech - is next-gen VR, which was the point in the title.”

Dead on. Even if next gen becomes current Gen at launch. Psvr2 has NOT launched yet.

EvertonFC1152d ago (Edited 1152d ago )

I'm guessing late June for Sony's event, probably a week or 2 after Xbox event ?
19th June maybe ?

S2Killinit1151d ago

Already! Nice. Honestly I can’t wait for this device.
