Valve's Gabe Newell shares his thoughts on the third-party Steam Machines at the Valve CES press conference and even manages a quick pop at Microsoft and Xbox One.
Fan projects Team Fortress: Source 2 and Portal 64 have shut down after Valve intervened in their development.
First they open Steam up to more AI, now they are shutting down fan projects when at one time they used to support or even give the fans jobs.
Wonder what's going on with Valve at the minute.
There's potential that Valve had already planned to bring Source 2 to TF2 officially after Counter Strike 2. It's been getting some renewed attention lately.
You got Nintendo to thank for Portal64 being taken down. As for TF2, most likely it's due to the probability of Valve working on a source 2 port themselves. It's sucks but Nintendo are the biggest pricks in the business and not letting this drag out into a huge court drama is the best decision.
Valve has updated its stance on AI games on the Steam storefront, allowing creators to publish AI-created games.
Hell no. I want games that have been made by creative minds who have a passion for their craft, not a bot with a penchant for plagiarism.
So instead of paying for an engine and assets to create a game they are paying for an engine and assets to create a game.
Valve has officially warned against inhaling the Steam Deck vent fumes in an official response due to potential health hazards.
Wow people will huff anything nowadays some people just have way too much time on their hands.
Another reason to love the PlayStation Portal, no chance of breathing in noxious vapors.
Get a Steam Deck they said, to which I reply, what are you high?
Haha.. consoles-holders typically sell on average 80 mil every 7 years. Steam Box will falter.
3 million users who paid 500$ for the system Vs. 65M users who downloaded Steam for free....
Great comparison Gabe lmfao.
"He took a quick pop at Microsoft and XBox One saying it will take them a while to catch up with their 3 million units sold compared to the 65 million registered Steam users."
Yeah, let me know when you've sold 65 million Steam Machines. You can't compare 65 million free accounts, of which a large amount are secondary accounts, to 3 million actual console sales. Hell, I know people who've been banned for cheating in 1.6 multiple times and have 5+ accounts. Steam Machines are a niche product, and they seem destined to fail.
This thing is the next Ouya IMHO. People that really wanted to have steam in the living room probably know how to build one for far cheaper.
The steam machine seems awesome and all but why take a jab at ms and the xbx one? If the xbx 360 and ps3 only required os updates and minor hardware upgrades to run next gen graphics then no body would have to upgrade to ps4 and xbx one and the sales between console to steam would be like 80million plus to 65million steam users and also xbx live and psn accounts would be carried over and thats still more than steam users.
Also considering how fast consoles are selling i dont see the new steam machines outselling the xbx one or the ps4.
