Why No One Wants a PS Vita

All the Vita needs to sell well is third-party support, but 3rd parties won't support it until Sony can prove that they believe in the Vita as well. That, and another memory card price drop wouldn't hurt either.

One reason would be that Activision said they were "sorry" about Declassified and would catch up in the future with a real mobile CoD. There was an article on a long time ago. I don't remember the exact details

Another reason is that Declassified sold more than Black Ops 2 and Ghosts on WiiU COMBINED. I had both games on WiiU to play with a wiimote but I got tired of it and I want a real CoD on handheld instead.

I think the list of exclusive games for Nintendo 3DS, really show that games sell systems despite PS Vita being similarly priced to the 3DS XL and being more powerful.

I agree, i love my vita. It supports mp3s, skype, movies, the park, efficient multitasking, good games like tearway, the new ys, gravity crush, killzone mercenaries (btw which is awesome and.look like a console game). Not to mention ps4 remote which works great. Vita also has some great games coming down the pipe. I do not see any reason to dislike the vita. I think this site is fishing, seriously.

Part of it is marketing, part of it is prices.

Sony is already making money off the hardware (they confirmed that the system was designed to be profitable since Day One). And Sony confirmed they wanted the system to support an all-digital library.

So...why make the cards so expensive?

Plus, it's smaller than a tablet. A lot of people these days have screen-size wars (OMG! My tablet has a 10" screen! Yours is a puny 7") and Vita can't compete in that department.

I'm looking forward to the next vita update taking some cues from sony's latest waterproof xperia z lines. too bad those kits are like 500-600 a pop, and not even as powerful or OLEDed; but how amazing would a waterproof, supersleek Vita XL with a 7" screen be? Even if it's only 720p, that'd be perfect and make remote play that much more functional, too.

Why the cards are so expensive? Because they use a proprietary disign.

Why they didn't use a regular SD card? To prevent hacking. There is no a stand alone reader for the PS Vita memory card, so, making the system less accessible to the untrained hacker. It's gonna be hacked anyway... sooner or latter.

You got a good point about he tablet argument. A bigger screen is always better. However, bigger is not equal to better quality. My Vita has an 5inch OLED screen, I doubt there is a tablet in the market w an OLED screen for under $200. And what about the inputs? U are missing rear touch pad and twin analog sticks, those can be emulated on screen at the sacrifice of screen image, I know. Its just not the same.

You are correct. A LOT of it is marketing. The last marketing "blitz" for the vita was circa launch day. Once the buzz around the PS4 has subsided (meaning that they have enough to sell and they aren't completely focused on it), they will probably have a renewed blitz and a price drop to boot. If the history of the PSP is any indication, this is what will happen. Whether it will be "successful" or not is up to the gaming gods.

Good exclusives are few and far between on the Vita. Only a handful. I wouldn't touch it for majority of the year if I didn't have Ps+/ PS4 golden is the only recent worthwhile game to come out on the system. And even then PS4 golden is just a remake of PS2 version. Whereas the 3DS has alot. The system itself is great, but as most gamers agree with, its the games that count

In fairness, the system has way more games in JP territory. But Sony don't do localisation it seems along with many other devs. SE won't even give us Type 0 the bastards. Supposedly the best FF between 12 and 14

I have a 3DS and love it to death. I can't say for sure I wouldn't like a Vita. There aren't really any games for it that scream out at me to buy a Vita, but that is just my preferences.

Honestly, the main reason I would get a Vita at this point, is so I could play my PS4 in bed. The remote play feature mimics the Off Screen play found on the Wii U and that feature is utterly fantastic. With a wife and young child, being able to play my Wii U on the controller is a life saver. Being able to do the same on my PS4 with a Vita would be amazing as well.

We'll see, the price keeps getting lower, so I may crack and get one...

My favorite Vita game is Persona 4 Golden even though its an updated remake of the PS3 game. Gravity Rush is fun though.

The remote play feature has recently been touted as the main reason that the Vita sales have picked up since the PS4 has gone on sale. A lot of peole argue that the WiiU can do the same thing but the Vita also has great exclusive games. I do enjoy my Vita but I wish it had more RPG games like the 3DS.

Basing the needs of an item on the very few in this article is silly.

The Vita isn't picking up the steam it needs only because there isn't a high demand for a high end, portable dedicated gaming device.

3DS works because of it's low price, huge library of not only 3ds but DS games and Nintendo's already dominant foothold on the portable gaming market.

But even they and Sony has taken a huge hit with the uprise of the tablets and gaming for it. And I remember back in the day when N4G was so adamant that smartphones/tablets would never hurt the portable gaming market.

The PSP Syphon Filter games work on Vita and you can map the controls to the dual sticks - it plays awesome and looks better! :)

Aren't some of the 3DS' biggest games old console ports? Besides, when you have a portable capable of competently handling a console port- to the point where you can even play cross-platform with the console- why wouldn't you take advantage of that? I guarantee you'd be singing a different tune of the 3DS could, for example, play SSB as a port, and you could play with somebody who was on their Wii/Wii U.

Both the 3DS and Vita have plenty of ports, and plenty of hardware-specific titles. Funny, though, how it's only people like you who have problems with ONE of the handhelds having ports. I wonder why that is?

Oh, and for the record, I don't like the price of the memory cards, but I'm not stupid, either. I'd rather pay a higher price for them than have all the games that come out be pirated to the point that developers stop making games for the system. You know, like what happened with the PSP? Don't know how it doesn't affect Nintendo. Guess it has to do with the fact that, as usual, most of their successful games are first party. Third party devs, therefore, don't get discouraged by high pirating rates and low sales because they're likely to already have low sales.

Where have you been? Are Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice, Tearaway, KZ Merc, Escape Plan, God Eater 2, YS Celceta, Freedom Wars, UC: Golden Abyss, or SH: Book of Memories not enough proof for you about exclusive games that build from the ground up for vita?

And i must be missing something here. Because 3DS also had tons of port / remake in it's 1st years, like Zelda OoT, DoA Dimension, SF IV, RE Mercenaries, Tales of the Abyss, etc. In fact, my 1st purchased of 3DS games also a port (Zelda OoT).

But honestly, i still don't know why some people complaining about port / remakes. If they already play it and don't have the will to play / buy it again, than why complaining?

But for people who never play those port / remakes or for people who wants to feel nostalgic again, it's a great incentive to own a 3DS or Vita, especially for masterpiece such as Zelda, Persona, Ninja Gaiden, or DoA. I'll bet there's tons of people who missed Zelda OoT on N64 or Persona 4 on PS2.

Obviously those games you guys are listing are not enough for Sony to even mention the sales on their reports.

I like the competition. The better Sony does, the better games we get. But to see Sony ignoring the Vita...is kind of sad.

Sony's best developers are not making anything on the system. Its going on two years now and we don't have a Gran Turismo (Sony's highest selling franchise) God of War, or Infamous on the system.

I just want Sony to pick it up. I also wish the PS Vita TV and some of the really good JRPGs got localized for America

because 3ds have amazing Nintendo games and 3º party isn't giving support to vita, only ports and 2-3 new games...

I have Vita and 3ds and i have to say, clear and simple... 3ds have better games, but...
Dat playstation plus combo... hell i'm getting lots of free Vita games! when people have Ps4/Ps3 they realy have to try give a chance to vita! hell, i only have 1 game on vita (persona golden) but i have more time playing vita than 3ds, because while i play embleme/Pokemon/zelda on 3ds, i have tons of games to play on vita for free!! very goo games like uncharted,gravity rush, soul sacrifice, sonic racing!
give it time, whe vita get a good libary, and ps+ grow because of the Ps4, vita will make very good sales! they probably will not catch 3ds, but i can bet vita will break the 80 millions line for sure.

Maybe i'm not clear in my 1st post, but i'm playing online with people who just bought vita recently. Their 1st vita game is soul sacrifice, that's why i'm helping them in some mission. Also, they are fans of DBZ and playing Battle of Z demo on Vita.

Besides, here in my local community i always seeing people asking questions about vita every day. Some of them are PSP / 3DS owner, and even commoner who never play video games. They really interested with vita and planning to own one. So, it's ridicilous to saw article like this :(

Girlfriend got me a Vita for Christmas and I'm loving it! Got a ton of free (awesome) games with ps+ and my brother got me Tearaway for my birthday. I usually play about an hour before bed every night and have been playing on my lunch breaks and waiting for movies and stuff

I love my Vita, is quite a beast. I love my 3DS as well, and there's no question that the 3DS has more games, but the Vita is far superior as a piece of hardware. The Vita's touch screen is awesome, the system is very fast and responsive, and the thing isn't uncomfortable to hold either.

I'd strongly recommend you guys pick one up, after the 3DS, of course :P

It would be a sin and a crime for this thing to only keep its head up by riding on the back of its big brother (PS4) - as an accessory, versus it being an actual, standalone-handheld system.

It's a Catch 22; similar to what Wii U has been facing.

Developers don't want to bring most of their games over because of lackluster sales - which is caused by gamers not caring about the system because of a lack of games - which is caused by the fact that developers don't want to bring games to a sluggish platform.

Both go hand-in-hand. So devs need to get out there and attempt to create some eye-catching games (not just remasters of old titles) ~ and hopefully the flocks will come.

Just ask Nintendo how they woke 3DS up after its facepalm-worthy first year.

1-pricey memory cards which are an essential part of the experience.
2-games-i'm not saying there arent any good games.im saying sony havnt made a vita game using their top studios-naughty dog,sucker punch,sony santa monica with certain exceptions- media molecule( and their game turned out great).
along with new fresh vita centric games like soul sacrifice,gravity rush,freedom wars,killzone merc,tearaway i wish sony would also use their top franchises and not just use them for the sake of using them ,if they do.

how about a vita uncharted by naughty dog with online mutiplayer,a new gran turismo, god of war( the psp versions were great werent they?),
if sony themselves cant be bothered to bring their big guns for the vita why would any reasonable third party consider it?
once again,this is what i hope to see.i want a proper uncharted on the vita with competitive mp .that's my dream:)

I bought a Vita for myself for Christmas and I think it's great. I already have some games to play thanks to my PSP digital library, and the Vita games I picked up are good too; P4: Golden, Shinbido 2, and Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward.

My only complaint is that I can't have my Japanese PSN account and my NA account on the same memory card. If I could, I'd be playing Phantasy Star Online 2 on it too.

That's too bad for the people who don't want one. I think it's not only the greatest handheld of all time, it's one of my favorite systems period. Vita has some phenomenal games and lots of hidden gems already. PS Vita for life.

There are several problems with the PS Vita.

One of which is the lack of first-party support.
Part of the greatness of the original PSP were great titles like Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Monster Hunter and Grand Theft Auto. The PS Vita has none of these and the first party titles it has cannot hold a candle to most of the great 3DS titles.

Add in issues of price, most of the games being indie PC ports and it becomes more of a luxury than a must-have.

I'll buy one when/if Western developers start supporting it. As someone who doesn't play Japanese developed games, there is virtually nothing on that system I want to play. I would like to have one for PS4 remote play, but I can't justify the cost just for that.

I have more interest in the Vita's games than 3DS games. I love my Vita and it's really a great piece of hardware that has some great games. But I do think it doesn't have a lot and needs more. Hopefully we'll see a lot more Vita only exclusives this year.
