Could 2014 Mean The Return of Need for Speed Underground?

BlackPanthaa writes: There are a lot of things pointing to the next instalment of Need for Speed being a return to the most popular era of games. From comments made by Ghost Games themselves, along with possibly Easter eggs hidden in the game.

Oh if that does happen I will be stoked.

MWong4178d ago

I will return to NFS if they do a true to form NFS:U.

I've been craving a racing game for some time now. Nothing out there interests me and I practically gave up NFS after Carbon. Carbon had some crappy drift mode races that were far too unrealistic...as if you're driving on ice haha. Sad that the best titles were the first Underground and Underground 2. If Underground 3 comes out and does the game right then I will be ecstatic!!

ShinMaster4178d ago

Same here. I hope that if they do make a new Underground game it doesn't turn out like the new Most Wanted game.
I realize it's supposed to be good, but it didn't feel like most wanted. When it came to customization, it was severely lacking. And to me, that's a big part of what makes Most Wanted and the Underground games what they are.

Too much emphasis on crashing and huge jumps and little emphasis on car modifications. It was like Burnout with cops and real cars. Great if you're a Burnout fan, but I was hoping for NFS.

n4rc4178d ago

NFS underground 2 probably had the best driving mechanics for fun.. I spent hours just customizing cars..

Make u3 and don't screw it up and I'm in.

DOMination-4178d ago

Surely not made by ghost... 12 month dev cycle? Already sounds ropey

Games evolve they dont go back anymore. They may do a NFS:u in title but will never go back to what made it great in the first place. People need to realise this and move on. This is not always for the better either. Look at Final Fantasy for proof it had 3 great games in a row on playstation in FF7,8 and 9 which all worked after the first 6 which also worked. They evolved it 10 and 12 sold okay so they moved on again and we got the garbage that is ff13. I don't expect ff15 wot be any greater. They won't ever go back to what made previous game back as that would mean admitting failure plus technologys moved on.

MWong4177d ago

@ Gamer1982
Games do sometimes go back to their roots and just evolve the concept (that's what BioWare is claiming to do with DA3). Ghost/Criterion took Burnout and gave it licensed cars. They need to just listen to their Underground fans, play NFS U & U2, talk to some street racers, street trends (aka just do some research) and there you go NFS:U3, a fully customizable car street racer. While insane crashing is cool, I want a street racer again.

Custom doors, nitros, wheels, tires, headlights, hoods, roofs, spoilers, side mirrors, body paint, body kits ... etc (I think you get the point).

imXify4178d ago

Perfect fit for new gen !

Ketzicorn4178d ago

Sadly fans have been clamoring for it for years and nothing I just refuse to continue to get my hopes up anymore

vitullo314178d ago

Yeah same, I've given up on expecting it to happen.. It would be so awesome though I loved 1 and 2 to this day my favorite nfs hands down

strigoi8144178d ago

better be im really waiting for this to happen

MASTER_RAIDEN4178d ago

need for speed underground 1 and 2 were the best NFS's of all time. everything else they have is such utter crap in retrospect. i own rivals and hate that especially for a multitude of reasons. EA just needs to acknowledge the fact that underground is what most fans want.

FANTA11804178d ago

the original"most wanted" was decent , but i fully agree.

Nekroo914178d ago

oh i cant customize my car so the games suck....

You realize the original and best nfs had nothing to do with tunning . Did you even played the original hot pursuit games?!

StoneyYoshi4178d ago

Do you understand that The Underground series is what made NFS Popular again? Yeah agreed that Hot pursuit was great, but Underground 1 and 2 blows hot pursuit out of the water! The Customization was one of the best things about the games.

Also that one glitch on one of the tracks allowed you to roam the whole city for as long as you wanted until somebody completed the race. Those are some of my best memories on NFS.

Zancruz4178d ago

I know right... When i hear someone say the Underground games are the best NFS game, I just can't help but to think theyre some punk Ricer Fast & Furious Wannabe. (Lol) Yeah I enjoyed the hell out of the first Underground game (Still Own It) the second sucked and the original Most Wanted was far more exciting racing in a open world in traffic with cop on your butt.

Besides IF it was just car customization they want? Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition remix was hands down the best for it and it was a decent racer too.

MASTER_RAIDEN4178d ago

can you read? i just stated my opinion in saying that underground series is best. i dont care that the original didnt have tuning. that has nothing to do with anything.

anyway ive played almost every NFS and underground 1 is easily the best one of all. what really fries me about the newer games (especially rivals) is that theres almost no real progression in the way cars are given to you. one can go from driving a mustang to a Ferrari in an hours time. theres no sense that you worked your way up to anything. i remember in underground 1 you started out with a volkswagon rabbit and actually went from bad, to better, to best cars. people try to condescend underground fans by saying all they want is customization. nah man...there were plenty of worthwhile aspects (including customization) that went into underground that to this day the newer games have not successfully emulated.

wannabe gamer4178d ago

the way they screwed up the most wanted remake makes me have no faith in this at all. The thing that made MW so awesome was the story and the feeling it gave you, they stripped all that out in exchange for some abstract art BS....why the hell do i need to see 15 cop cars stacked in a triangle spinning at me before a race.....makes absolutely no sense

Yeah they really messed up Most Wanted's sequel. Cop AI in the game is pretty much non existent. It is non existent in the online mode. With the theme of the game being police and being most wanted it made no sense to me. Rivals might be decent, but I am skeptical of it.

Now that Criterion founders are gone I am beginning to wonder when they rebrand Burnout to NFS: Burnout. You know EA will do it one day. That way they can do two things to please some fans. Create a burnout game and keep a NFS game on the shelf every year.

EA needs to do something better with NFS. Its playing random dice with the ip every year. Rivals at one point was to be called NFS: Millionaire ha. I personally believe EA should give NFS 3 titles. NFS: Burnout, NFS: Underground, NFS: Hot Pursuit. Then rotate them around every couple of years. Although I believe Shift would also be decent for the series.

Absolutely insane. Man I'm hope they land on their feet EA needs to get the shit together badly....

This is why this industry has slow releases and none compelling games.

127maXimus45d ago

Why would anyone willingly work in the VG industry or specifically for one of these globocorp organizations that put you in constant fear of losing your livelihood based on terrible choices made by idiotic management, not the people with talent making the actual games?
