Bethesda: We Don't "Dumb Down" Franchises - Fallout 3 and the Console Masses (EDGE)

EDGE interviews Fallout 3 lead Emil Pagliarulo who talks narrative, PC-to-console migration and bringing a hardcore PC franchise to the console masses in this new interview.

Pagliarulo says:

"It's funny. I look at Fallout when I play it every day, and I sometimes think that there's a lot of old-school hardcore PC stuff in there too, and part of me thinks, "God, is this too inaccessible for console players?" There's a lot of dialogue to read, a lot of just hacking computers and looking through things like "VAT." I don't know. Sometimes I think it's just the opposite. So I don't feel like we're dumbing down the franchise.

...I think we're starting to find that there is a market for [hardcore "PC RPGs" on consoles]. People like myself and some people that work here actually grew up as hardcore PC guys, and now we're older, we have kids, we don't have that much time, so we've transitioned. We're console players now..."

If they don't like dumbing down franchises then it must be killing them that they're releasing this for the Xbox 360 as well, thanks for the gimp stick.

This is freaking HILARIOUS, so if they don't dumb down games what do they do? cut all the edges until you find that pretty much all the depth is gone? add shinier graphics, simplify all you can and its done?

I mean come one Bethesda you have blatantly cut and simplified more stuff in The Elder Scroll series that the stuff you have added, the fact that Fallout 3 was RADICALLY redesigned from TBRPG to pretty much a 3rd person shooter with some RPG elements and again the majority of the deep gameplay (tactical use of point with Perks and Skills) cut off in favor of twitch gameplay (point and shoot) speaks for it self, that is not aiming for a Fallout 3 that is aiming for a Brotherhood of Steel 2

I don't know what else to say to this article except that I hope to GOD they don't ruin the Fallout series with their newest effort. I already heard from one source that they took out the selective targeting system in order to make the combat more fast-paced, though if that isn't true someone please tell me so I can rest at ease.
