Why was Resident Evil a success? - Capcom explains

When you talk about survival horror games, Resident Evil can't be ignored. Capcom recently looked back on its long-running series and examined why it thinks Resident Evil became so popular.

After Resident Evil 5 earned record high sales for the series, Capcom looked at what it could do better in the sixth entry. The result, Resident Evil 6, sold over five million units, despite mixed criticism.

I do not want to read what Capcom came up with as a source of success. I have a feeling their ideas would make me rage like a lunatic.

"Why was Resident Evil a success?"

Why? It's simple: Shinji Mikami and his team of elites.
(Who are working on the upcoming "The Evil Within", by the way.)

There is a reason why the quality of the series plummeted after RE4: Those dudes left.

I'm probably going to get disagrees into oblivion but it think RE4 is the cause of this. I always thought that game was over rated and the death of the series. Look at the RE4 beta on YouTube and if we got that version of RE4 I would of been very happy.

Dear capcom, whatever resident evil u make next, sequel or reboot, should go back to the origins roots. Scrap the 2 players campaign mode and leave it as a lone player, scrap all the explosions and hollywood copying and just be simple and horror. Thanks

MrTrololo3825d ago

Cause it try to mimic COD & Gear Of War. Seriously RE has been a downfall after RE 3.

Venoxn4g3824d ago

you missed some good games like RE:make and RE:0 on gamecube, plus RE: code veronica

MrTrololo3825d ago

Yeah but is not good as a re game. RE4 is what started this action crap in first place and what the franchise become right now. Re remake is the perfect re game.

ShaunCameron3824d ago

Actually it was RE3. RE4 just had better technology for Capcom to take advantage of.

BABY-JEDI3825d ago

RE4 was really good, especially the atmosphere which RE5 (on steroids) didn't have. I do hate objects/items glowing & infected on motorbikes, & the excruciatingly worse than bad dialogue ect, ect.
Man it's killing me. I really used to love RE. Now. No thanks.

KakashiHotake3825d ago

the last RE I really enjoyed was Resident Evil 4. It had a perfect mix of action and horror and the game was just well balanced. I didn't like 5 because it was too much action and I didn't care much for the story or the setting. I never even played RE 6 because 5 let me down just that much. I don't know what to think of Resident Evil anymore, it seems the franchise has run it's course. If anything I think the team should start a new survival horror project and start fresh.

Venoxn4g3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

you should try RE: Revelations its decent

KakashiHotake3824d ago

Actually I have that game and haven't even played it yet. I'm gonna check it out real soon.

Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica Remakes are reportedly in the works, not Resident Evil 1

Industry insider Dusk Golem reveals that there is no Resident Evil 1 Remake in the works. Instead, Capcom are reportedly in active development of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica.

-Foxtrot25d ago

RE Zero would be better to do first over RE1 because they can tie the story into RE1 more.

The original RE Remake was weird because Rebecca never mentioned anything about what happened in Zero and it felt so disjointed because Zero was developed during the Remake and they clearly didn't share any notes with one another.

Cacabunga24d ago

Wise decision. 2 of my favorites!

repsahj24d ago

RE Zero is one of my favorite game on gamecube!

Knightofelemia25d ago

TGG_overlord24d ago

GotGame81824d ago

Parrying has been creeping into more games, with almost every high-profile title of the last few years featuring it in some way.  Why?

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

Dudeson91d ago (Edited 91d ago )

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.
