"As a writer, it’s becoming increasingly hard to say the same sentence in a new, novel way: The PlayStation Network is down for some users." - PSLS
Works for me.I'm on it as i type. Hopefully they get it sorted out asap
Me as well. I was just on psn an hour ago. I didn't know there was problems untll I came here. I think if u don't come to n4g, u'll never know there are any problems to begin with.
I have the issue but it is only for people who have have weaker connections. Basic IT stuff if you ask me. Like the XBOX 360 a few years back going down due to popularity... the PS4 is the hottest holiday item. This only makes me smile as an investor in SNE. Especially with everything on the rise. And seriously think about it for a minute. Sony's servers are stretched between PS3, PS4 and PS Vita. The PS4 is requiring more servers because more people are logging onto the PS4 vs every other platform. Some of my friends have new PS Vita's. And when people purchase digital copies over the weekend... this is what happens. I expect a server maintenance E-Mail within the next 48 hours to suddenly appear.
This site seems fascinated by any momentary slip of PSN. Don't get me wrong, it shouldn't happen, but did you see how many PS4s were opened on Christmas day?! If, after 2 weeks, the problem persists, by all means make a fuss. For now, this is to be expected by any rational thinker. Also both competitors had trouble too, probably for the same reason - sudden load. Please stop posting about it every few days: http://n4g.com/news/1424529... For the record, I had trouble on Boxing Day, but been fine since. :)
I think it's worth making a fuss about not being able to access PSN a LITTLE sooner than "2 weeks"...
^Great, well that's your opinion and you already know mine.. I'm not usually so understanding, but factoring the start of a new generation and knowing the number of units sold, I'm just not being a d!ck about it. Is it good enough? No. Should they have foreseen the additional traffic and put measures in place to guard against issues? Well yes, but it's not as easy as it sounds. You can't just flick "a switch" lol
I'm surprised someone knows what boxing day is. Not too many fanboys know what boxing day is before they type in a new google search for it. Their first thought for boxing day: "It's when you unboxed your 'x'." Sad part is they don't realise that Boxing day isn't an american tradition.
Wtf prompted that rant about Boxing Day and Americans?
Hopefully Sony gets this sorted and patched asap
Woo. Good thing we don't pay for this service....o wait.
exactly, People are paying for this service now all these problems shouldn't be happening.
I know right cause it's been a whole like 43 days since the PS4 came out....What the hell are they doing with the NO money they should have made from PSN in 43 days between existing users that have a year+ already paid for and the rest still using trial time cards. Genius, your a real rocket scientist things to take time you know
@ Deadpoolio... This is the internet! People here aren't happy unless they're complaining or flaming about something.
Xbox has been having issues also. It's not just sony.
@cluckey07 Not a single XBL problem or downtime since launch of XO. Everything works blazing fast and downloads use all of my 100 mbps. Downloaded AC4 which is around 20 gigs in less than 20 minutes. BF4, KI, AC4 and Forza works flawlesly online aswell.
@Foolsjoker and whoyouwit04: 2 months isn't enough for sony to go and say "We need X amount of servers for our online devices." In fact, because the XBOX fanboys hate Sony so much they pilfered Sony's expectations. Over 2.9 million PS4's are out in the wild and there is a projection of another 1.5 million by the end of January. I see a lot of new PS4 owners popping up in February. So for Sony to make estimates now is all up in the air thanks to fanboys in general. PS4 is the first console of Sony's to have a pay wall for multiplayer gaming. Remember when XBOX first came out? I'm pretty sure only the hardcore XBOX fans (not fanboys) remember their service having a rocky start. Need I pull up articles? When XBL came out all of those years ago with the original xbox they first had router issues: http://www.dslreports.com/f... http://www.dslreports.com/f... Need I say more? When you introduce a pay wall for the first time errors will happen. For PS4 they have all but one base covered. The amount of servers available for everyone to enjoy PS3, PS4, and PS Vita online gaming. It all starts to make sense if you take the time to DO THE MATH. Also if I receive any PM's over this be prepared for a bunch of links to be sent your way.
that's how I felt around xmas time. I wasn't happy at all. I couldn't play any games because their service was down. Not acceptable anymore now that we are being forced to pay for it.
Considering the first 30 days were free, assuming the service was down the ENTIRE time after your 30 day free period (also assuming you got your PS4 at launch) - I'm sure you can complain to Sony and they'll credit the $1.32 you're out, based of a full price 12 month subscription pro-rated for the 12 potential days of downtime post free month. But considering there have been intermittent issues all of four days since launch, they'll likely only credit you $0.44 - and I'm sure they'll feel really sorry about your inconvenience.
@thekhurg It's not the $ that is the issue. You buy a game 60$ but are stuck only having to play Single player? Same goes for XBL. HOWEVER with PS+ you get free games for the next 12 months so it sorta evens out.
But you're not. You don't pay for PSN. You pay for PS Plus. It's not gonna stop you signing in if you don't have it. Unlike some other service I know.
I see you're a typical fanboy not knowing anything about XBL. You can sign in and use many features of XBL without buying subscription. Subscription is only for early betas, online gaming and some streaming services. Nice try.
hehehehehehehehehe. This is such a shame. ;-)
Not a big deal, I have enough single player games that even if this ends up affecting me, it won't actually affect me.
Not a big deal if you don't pay for the service, but if you pay for it then it's certainly a big deal.
I totally agree, anything that you pay for should work, its just what the consumer expects. We all knew that there were going to be problems with load over christmas, which means sony and ms must have expected it and done nothing. But hell, im not going to let a brief outage (for me it was brief) detract from the excitment of a new gen. Happy New year N4G, Hope this is a start to an awesome gaming year for all of us
I do pay for it, and it's still not a big deal. And one day of downtime equates to 14 cents, if I paid the full fifty, but most of my time I got it on discounts, so one day is technically worth even less. I also understand that in the technological center of things, there's a lot more going on than I understand, and in general, I'm just a pretty patient and understanding guy, and don't let stupid shit like PSN maybe being down for a couple of hours for a couple of portions of the service affect me at all.
Seems like I'm never included in the "getting an error" group, everything has worked fine for me for the last three "PSN is down" posts I've seen on this site. :)
Same here. All three downs i could play multiplayer. I just couldn't join parties/PS Store.
LOL been the exact opposite for me. When I've had issues, the store has worked flawlessly, but other features have been fubar including some multiplayer - but not all for a strange reason.
Glad I'm at work to avoid this headache, at least!
Same for me, i'm only really playing War Thunder at moment but this would have thrown a spanner in the works as it's pretty much online only.
"As a writer" Don't pat yourself on the back too hard there buddy. You might hurt your blogging hand.
writ·er ˈrītər/ noun 1.a person who has written a particular text. Seems fairly general to me, bloggers count too (even though I wouldn't consider this publication a simple blog, that's neither here nor there), why the need to call out and belittle people though? Back to the topic at hand... P.S. With computers these days, most people use two hands to write (or blog as you surmise), being that a keyboard is most efficiently used with both lefty and righty.
No surprise to see you here wedge, being one of the usual leeches from PSLS "Staff" who lurk every submission. You, foolsjoker, trendy, and god knows how many others. Hard to take anything you say seriously. Keep thinking you and you buddies posting forum topics makes you great and profound journalists tho.Still cracks me up, as always. PSLS remains the bottom of the barrel for gaming news.
@ThatCanadianGuy514 Glad to see you lurk our posts enough to know all of us. If we're really as "bottom of the barrel" as you say, why do you waste your time down here to?
If he had said "journalist" you wouldn't look like a wanker.
the hackers are bac
*sigh* I don't see anything suggesting that, thankfully. The irony? Just up the thread you called someone else an idiot! lmao :P
I would hate to be the people having to work on these servers, god knows how many hours they're putting in trying to deal with the sudden inflow of millions of users at once.
work fine with me.. I just hope this is not a serious thing
Works fine for me (western subberbs of Chicago.). I'm watchin Kroll Show on netflix on my PS4 and eating dinner with my fiancée.
I'm pissed. If we pay 50 dollars a year this junk should work. Its always down. XBL is never down I'm aware. Sony must fix this. I can understand it being down on launch or Christmas but come on.
Yes cause people who buy brand new iPhones at $700+ don't have hardware or software issues. Nothing is ever fail or bug proof. They will fix this issue in no time.
Yeah you would think by now they could at least catch up to the quality of XBL on the original Xbox 10 years ago, but sadly that remains far beyond Sony's grasp. I can hardly believe how unreliable it is.
I in fact don't believe it, considering these articles keep popping up and, aside from November 15th, have had none of these PSN issues.
No need to fret. This issue will be resolved in less than 24hrs.
Mines fine. Watching The Magic School Bus as we speak on Netflix. Minus the few hiccups I'm not super upset with PSN, but I pay for it now so this better not become a trend
Problem for XBL? I think not
Mine has been hit and miss since christmas eve.
It's been fine for me, I've been streaming gameplay and everything, I'm typing this on my PS4 right now :D I'm sure the servers are gettin' hit hard right now from all over the world, it'll all get sorted out soon enough
I thought this kind of stuff would have stopped once the PS4 launched.
Did you? Oh. :|
I hate when ppl complain about this. Yes, it's unfortunate. But sony is selling TONS of PS4s and I'm sure they're trying their hardest to make their network run properly and support all these new PS4 owners all trying to get online at once. Be mindful that MS has been charging for online for many years and has PLENTY of money and resources to ensure their network doesn't go down as often, and Sony, if you Haven't heard, is not as financially comfortable.. They're doing their best, and clearly they're apologetic and care, it's all over twitter. This is expected to happen. It just happened to Nintendo, and they don't even sell many Wii U's. Just give it time ppl. Also, doesn't your cable, internet, and cell service go out every now and then? Shit happens, but it gets fixed. That's all that matters. P.S. - for the ppl who disagree, I'm SO sorry Sony isn't swimming in piles of money like M$ is. Sorry they don't royally screw their customers over left and right. People these days...
To be honest, PSN isn't exactly a new infrastructure and they've had plenty of time and scope to get it right. For the most part it's fine, but now it's a paid service and people don't like paying for stuff that doesn't work (consistently). As for MS, running managed services is what they do best. I don't see why people feel the need to defend huge corporations, they take your money and they supply a particular demand. When that isn't fulfilled they deserve some form of backlash.
That is a lame excuse for a corporation you conjured up... They are offering a service that people are paying for. And the service level they are providing has not been great lately for many users of it (I can't complain about PSN because mine hasn't been down). But, you say MS is screwing their customers... MS is not screwing customers if they are charged a fee and get a reliable service. MS has been very clear that they provide a reliable online experience for the money you pay for it... Sony has taken a different road. They make you pay for the service and they give a bunch of free (and desirable) games with it... They have created their economic model and now it is haunting them. Maybe that's why Sony is in the financial position they are and MS is in the financial position they are in... MS charges for the services they provide and makes a profit... Sony charges for the services they provide and lose money...
I've had my ups and downs with PSN over the holidays and new launch. Overall, not too bad but at times when I'm trying to get on and it doesn't work...it's frustrating (especially something I'm paying for now). Nothing worst not knowing if it's BF4 servers, PSN or Verizon Fios making me miss that head shot...
Love how the FANGIRLS are trying to keep this hush! We are paying for the service now, so no excuses!
screw playing online got free games wooooo. guess those few extra bucks are worth it over at the xbox camp
Anyone with NFS Rivals PS4 having issues downloading the update? It won't update for me and it is needed to play online. Battlefield updated just fine. Has been going on since the 24th.
Been having issues getting online with BF4 lately, but then again could just be the game...
So this is why the killzone SF multiplayer keeps crashing. -_- Still behind the competition when it comes to the online Sony.
Well as long as they working on it and will be fixed soon that's fine. Nothing is perfect in this world
Yes people are paying, and yes it shouldn't happen. The more complaints, the more pressure on Sony to fix it. But for the people claiming that there should be 100% no issues is just short sighted.
At first i thought it was my modem, now i see its an error, im sure it will be fixed soon.
Yeah, I'm in Canada and ehen I try to access the playstation store it tells me to check my connection. I wanted to rent Elysium, it's only 99 cents!!
