The system doesn't need this game to prove it is next gen; it's next generation by the very definition of the term.
Or, well, I guess now that all three are released, they'd all be considered the CURRENT generation, technically...
Media is still using the "next gen" moniker for these things, though, so I'll continue to do so until they stop doing it, just to avoid confusion.

Anyways, yeah, I own this game and it's definitely a keeper.
I have to question the sanity of whoever created Champion Road, though.
That level is officially bat-s*** crazy in terms of difficulty...

If that's what separates next-gen from current-gen, then almost every new console would be part of the previous gen. New consoles are simply updated with enhanced features. That's what MAKE them "next-gen," along with the time period they are released.

The Wii U has features that no past consoles have had. The PS4 has features that no past consoles have had. The Xbox One has features that no past consoles have had.

And that's beside the point. Next-gen does not rely on your specs, it simply depends on when you released it. Oh, it's the successor to a 7th gen system? Then it's the 8th generation. End of story.

i think you are confusing good artstyle and smart use of shaders with raw horsepower. mario games arent really technical marvels. just good art direction and gamedesign

And what is Killzone? A bad Shooter with nice graphics, so that is what makes it next gen? What new did it offer, gameplay wise? Dont you just run around, like in every Shooter and aim and shoot? Killzones highlights are at the techniques. It's under the hood. Not so much the game mechanics itself. A.I. and Visuals is what Killzone is going for. I'm not sure why you are screaming at me for.

Mario games are rarely bad, and I cannot wait to see Mariokart and Metroid next. However, I have to state the Wii U doesn't need to prove it's next gen, as it clearly is. It's just not as powerful as the 'other' next gen systems, which have all become current gen now they're all released.

Creativity and how the games play are the most important factors for me. Visuals are always nice, but come a close 2nd. It's nice to have both, but as we all know, sometimes we can't always have it all.

This game is no doubt the most FUN I have had playing a game in years. Much better than NSMBWiiU, not that NSMBWiiU was bad, but this is better. The thing is though, I doubted this game 100% when I saw the screen shots and watched some videos, but I was 100% WRONG. There are a ton of great games out for Wii U now, and many more to come.

The bright, colorful, HD graphics finally show us how good Mario can look. This game also has me super pumped for Smash Bros Wii U, which looks AMAZING in the trailers. 2014 is going to be a killer year for gamers. Sony and Nintendo are going to keep me busy.

This game is winning game of the year for many reasons, and one is how innovative, and fun it is. This is a real gem of a game :) Better than anything on the ps4, or xbox1
