Is The Driving in GTA IV a bit too Hard?

As we play GTA IV we are having alot of fun but we keep crashing and sliding all over the place it seems like where not even going that fast. Maybe The game developers went to far with the realism a bit over the top.In Games the realer the better but You still gotta have fun. it seems like the game is in some type of drift mode you slide a little to much. but we really don't want to complain about a little thing like this because GTA IV....

YES!!! OH GOD YES!!!

Some cars are impossible to drive.

TheWickedOne5894d ago

It's really my only issue with the game. All be it, a very little issue. But some cars are so frustrating to drive, others are fine. The bikes are almost impossible to drive and not hit something and fly off. My other small issue is when you hang out with someone you usually have to pick them up at one spot and drop them off half way across the map. Thank god for taxis.

Genesis55894d ago (Edited 5894d ago )

Yep smacked 'er up good a few times. But it's been good for a few laughs too. Usually during the chases or fleeing.

xhi45894d ago

the drivings like the best part of the game.

I love how realistic it is, a lot of people just want it to be arcadey and oh if i move the stick i can curve around a corner.

Its so much more realistic and beautiful I reckon, just love cruisin round in the amazing suspension bound cars.

its awesome!

Megaton5894d ago

Agreed xhi4.

I like the driving in this game. Sure I skid out of control when I'm going entirely way too fast, but if I'm trying to drive well, I can.

themyk5894d ago

at first it was. but now i consider myself a good driver. practice man. have some pride ladies

Ghoul5894d ago

No

its perfect that way i really love it, im sick off this casual racing models, the harder the better i want to master a game not have mastered it before i even played it if you get me. some cars need attention to learn them and thats why i love the car physics in gta4

Coheno5894d ago

I agree xhi4.

In the start it was a little hard, but now it's the best part of the game, you just gotta get used to it!!

And some cars are even better to drive busted up. I found the copcar being way easier to drive when the right front wheel is busted! GREAT FUN!

It IS AWESOME!!!

godofthunder105894d ago

i played both games but the driving in saints row is 100 times better then gta4.every gta game had problems with driving.

gameraxis5894d ago

but if you could hit the gas while breaking to turn (kinda like in Paradise City) it would allow one to turn corners much more easily.

this was a problem in the first hour or two though, I'm cruising through liberty city like butter now(even chases). Just save the high speeds for the strait aways and baby the analog stick, not hard to get used to.

thesummerofgeorge5894d ago

I disagree I really like the realistic driving, it adds to the realism of the game. Plus it's not like it's that hard once you get the hang of it.

Ghoul5894d ago

once you get the hang of it its awesome, hell i like to race around the city more then i like to play burnout atm, i LOOOOVE the muscles cars, when you manage to controll the drift you can "streetsofsanfranciso&quo t; around the corners. You can even take 3to4 turns wihouth stopping to drift.

lessthanmarcus5894d ago

That's the best part of the game. If you think it's hard you just suck at driving games, plain and simple.

Foliage5893d ago

I thought the camera was a bit wonky when I was first getting accustomed to the driving in GTA4. When I got used to the camera I found that the driving was pretty good. This isn't Gran Turismo, so of course there is room for improvement, but I have no complaints.

sa_nick5893d ago

No way, it just takes a little getting used to.

I love how easy it is to do a 180 then continue reversing backwards. With a little practise I've managed to pull off some awesome looking drive-by's using that.

Genesis55893d ago

Yeah. Now that I've got another 5 or 6 hours into it. I'm getting pretty good at the driving. Just has a bit of a learning curve to it. I'm getting some nice cars now too. The driving is actually pretty awesome.

callahan095893d ago

NO!!! OH GOD NO!!!

The driving parts in this game are a vast improvement over the rest of the series. More realistic, but still arcadey and tons of fun. It's a total blast and anybody who finds it too difficult is in serious need of a real-life driver's ed course.

every car handles diffrent and it takes more skill to drive the faster cars.

sure some people dont like realisim but screw them

Breakfast5894d ago (Edited 5894d ago )

Its not that...go drive one of the crappy cars...like Romans first car, it wont turn for crap. You gotta keep using the e-brake...and play slip'n'slide while you're at it.

The fast cars...are normal to me.

HeartlesskizZ5894d ago

even a turn a 15 mph results in a total crash. ok ok im lying about that but yes the driving suks and it could have been better.

k2d5894d ago

My only real issue with this game is the lack of [AUTO SLEEP MODE].
I fell asleep, then suddenly when I woke up, all my npc relations had GONE TO HELL! I had'nt saved for several missions and pigeons ago..

Ghoul5894d ago

k2d

open your cellphone go to options and put the mobile into sleep mode, that way the story halts and noone calls you you wont loose any respect or friends status when in sleep mode.

Moto135893d ago

then go drive a car in GT5. I own the game on the 360 and was a big fan of GTA SA, but man does the driving suck in GTA IV. I hate it, and riding bikes is pretty stupid. in SA, putting up wheelies on bikes was harder and more enjoyable. This game has nothing to do with realism in driving. The driving isn't real, let's face it, and it's really awkward. It's not real, period. I wish they would have made it more fun not real because they realy suck at it IMO.

Brawler5893d ago

its really not realistic all cars today have ABS these cars don't so when u slam on the brakes you cant steer you just skid if these cars have ABS we could be able to steer when braking. which should make driving a lot easier.

Porky Pig5894d ago

especially the Pagani Zonda ripoff,it shouldn't require a handbrake to make a corner.

And th-th-th-that's all folks!

Buubar5894d ago

Its not hard at all, if you know how to drive properly.

Porky Pig5894d ago

in order to corner effectively and quickly in GTA 4,you have to brake at least 3-5 seconds before you encounter a Corner, this IS NOT good at all,as it feels too hard and plain unrealistic

So far I'm not enjoying any of the driving missions

Agree if you hate chicken, disagree if you like chicken

And th-th-th-that's all folks!

danarc5894d ago

lmao @ porky pig...

Braking before a corner, why that's simply ridiculous, I mean come on, I should be able to to U turns at full speed...

Have you ever played GT5: Prologue?

Legend5894d ago

Is porky pig really complaining about braking before the corner/turn? Have you ever driven a real car? That's pretty much the way it works.

TO THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE WITH YOU! I NEED BACON!

Porky Pig5894d ago

Where I said HAND BRAKE?I should have included that in my above post

now you're talking to a person who has final'd in MULTIPLE Gran Turismo tournaments,so please don't assume I know nothing about how a car handles/should handle in a game :D

The driving in GTA 4 is nowhere near as realistic as the driving in Gran Turismo nor real life,it doesn't take a genius to figure that the mechanics are overly constrained, thus making it feel absolutely unrealistic.

And th-th-th-that's all folks!

Leathersoup5893d ago

Yeah... the light prison sentences and lack of permanent death is pretty unrealistic as well however the driving is awesome. If you can't fathom the requirement to slow down to turn then I suggest you read a book on inertia.

Legend5892d ago

Sounds to me like you just suck, pig.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies57d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken57d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing6958d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker58d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6958d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt57d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken57d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
