PlayStation 4 Remote Play Is a Great Idea Marred by Scaling Issues

If you're eyeing a PS Vita purchase, justify it on its own terms.

If you want an in-depth breakdown of the technology behind the PlayStation 4’s Remote Play feature, which turns Sony’s PS Vita into an adjunct mini-PS4, Digital Foundry has a pretty thorough writeup here. I have one quibble with the site’s otherwise excellent overview: DF says the make-or-break issue with Remote Play is latency. I agree that latency’s an issue, but it’s not the make or break one.

Lol you must crawl before you walk
The image might not be 1080p but being able to play your ps4 games anywhere in your house or away from your house with a strong wifi signal is a amazing feature.

Go to youtube and look at the clips of people taking the vita's to work using remote play.one guy remote play from NJ to NY.

Remote play is a killer feature

DEEBO3860d ago

yeah people ask whats so special about the ps4,i just tell remote play is the best next gen feature.
Sony can just keep improving it over time.i have a wiiu and its great but the distance you can go with the gamepad is horrible.
but second screen gaming is really were its at and sony has been working hard at this for a long time.
i'm glad to see it finally running like it should.

Reeze3860d ago

I agree, they each have their own pros and cons.

The Wii U Gamepad's screen looks nicer, but that's because the console was created around it. The bad part is, like you said, its range. I can't even get it in 5 feet away separated by a thin door.

The Vita is kind of the opposite. It's laggy sometimes, but you can take it almost anywhere with you.

@Reeze

How is that?

PS Vita 5" OLED or LCD screen, resolution 960x544

Wii U gamepad 6.2" VGA screen, resolution 854x480

fr0sty3860d ago

Yeah, Vita definitely has the better screen, especially the OLED model. No comparison.

I have done it multiple times at about a 150 mile distance from my PS4. There is the occasional stutter, but otherwise very little lag. Played AC4 Black Flag perfectly on it

edwineverready3860d ago

love using remote play at my work. We have a strong wifi and it works flawless. I work night-shifts in a hotel. i did not use my vita now i do almost everyday.

Marred by scaling issues....

Thats alittle over dramatic

teflontactics3860d ago

So what you're saying is that you want them to code it such that it plays like a Vita game when remote played?

I understand how that might be a pipe dream, but I think it's unrealistic seeing as how you're supposed to be playing games in the same format as they were meant to be played on PS4. It doesn't change the inherent graphics, layout or quality of the picture (though it changes the resolution), so why would you expect it to look anything but scaled?

Sounds like you should be looking for some Vita games to play.

That latency tho. Makes it impossible to play shooters through RP

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

Record of Agarest War 2 announced for PS3

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5151d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905151d ago (Edited 5151d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5151d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Another exclusive damnn the ps3 keeps on rollin wit games awesome ;)

Jack-Pyro5151d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495151d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5151d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5151d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
