Praise the sun: Dark Souls II’s co-director apologises for saying the game would be “accessible”

Edge - "When we revealed last December that Dark Souls II was to become “more accessible” than its fiendishly punishing predecessor, the hard, self-flagellating core of the series’ fanbase were disappointed – to put it politely. A year later and just three months from release, we’ve secured an exclusive assurance from Dark Souls II co-director Yui Tanimura that this purported change of direction was all a mistake, and another from producer Takeshi Miyazoe that the statement was “a mistranslation” on their part."

Actually the whole "accessible" comment upset a lot of the core fans for the Souls series because "accessible" tends to be associated with easy and/or simplified mechanics. It was a really bad choice of words that made a lot of people doubt the game.

Youtubers who played the game say it is probably going to be harder than DS. I hope the game is presented better at least similar to how Demons Souls gave you better hints about the mechanics

I've played it and it felt easier to me, way too many healing items dropped, if might feel harder to some because the movement is kinda sluggish making it much harder to dodge attacks, unless you pump a lot of points into agility.

They should make an easy mode and put a label underneath saying 'This mode is for the casual noobilicias kind of guy' and then on normal difficulty say 'this is how the game was designed to be played ;-)'

That way more people can enjoy the game thus generating more cashflow.

Why no because your not man enough to click on the normal mode it was intended to play on.

I really hope the PS4 version isn't too far behind the last gen release. One of my most wanted of 2014 for sure.

LAWSON723931d ago (Edited 3931d ago )

There will be no PS4 version or XBone version, dont know why all you people think, more like expect, every current gen game has to be released on next gen. AS all the console gamers have always said graphics dont matter. I think the only console gamers that realize this anymore are the Nintendo ones. I see many people being disappointed over the next year

bangoskank3931d ago

Apologies; I missed the latest update. Until today there were rumors of next gen ports. I have absolutely no problem playing it on my ps3, just considered playing on PS4 for a better visual experience. Apparently not going to happen. As for Nintendo: look at my past comments and you'll see how much I've been defending the Wii U on this site. Do some research before you criticize.

LAWSON723931d ago

Not fully targeted towards you, I am just tired of people expecting all these exclusive titles to come to next gen. These are great titles and I see people say I am waiting for the next gen version almost all the time when the game is out and fantastic.

Hidetaka Miyazaki claims Dark Souls 2 “carried” the series forward

Dark Souls 2 remains a divisive entry in the landmark RPG franchise, but Hidetaka Miyazaki believes it led to the success of Elden Ring.

The game isn't good though.

DS2 was fine. While there was a bit of recycling assets or ideas for bosses, it was a bigger more open Dark Souls. The Fume knight boss is one of the hardest bosses in the series until Sekiro and Elden Ring were released.

CrimsonWing69210d ago

The problem with Dark Souls 2 was the same problem when a different director takes over for a sequel to an outstanding movie. It typically (there are exceptions) doesn’t have the feel and vision of the previous movie.

I wouldn’t say Dark Souls 2 is terrible. Had Dark Souls 1 never been a thing and we got this, I think it would have been praised more. The problem is it didn’t have the Miyazaki touch to it and felt pretty derivative. The soundtrack is a banger though.

Aussiesummer210d ago

And it will happen in the future when he doesn’t touch them as he is planning on.

MrBaskerville210d ago

I like DS 2, might even be my favorite of the 3. But it's a hard sell, there's so many obscure things you need to do to make it an enjoyable experience. So always find it hard to recommend, but it is worth the trouble.

All the bosses are only from Dark Souls. No Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, or Demon Souls
