Disappointing Sales - Crysis 3 PC Has Just Passed 100.000 Sold Copies In Its Homeland

DSOGaming writes: "Crysis 3 PC has just passed 100.000 sold copies in Germany, and that number is - as you may have guessed - way lower than the sales of the first PC exclusive Crysis title."

They could never mimic the success of Crysis 1. It had both awesome game play and graphics but the sequels only paid attention to graphics.

gillri4174d ago (Edited 4174d ago )

No Crysis was an average game just like its sequels, a glorified tech demo with bone headed characters, crappy story and generic alien designs. Oh wow it has opended ended gameplay.....yeah so did far Cry 1 2 years earlier

Just because it was ahead of its time graphically does not make it a good game. Crytek following games have only highlighted the fact its not a good game developer

Pandamobile4174d ago (Edited 4174d ago )

Crysis was anything but an average game. Sure, the story wasn't the best and the characters weren't that great, but the game itself was an amazing, one of a kind experience.

I mean come on, hunting Koreans on a tropical island with real-time weapon modifications, on the fly power mode switching (not the lame, watered down, consolized Nanosuit 2.0 in the newer games), in expansive sandbox levels? Compared to the single player FPS games we have today, Crysis was, and still is a world class shooter.

Admittedly, it does go down hill about 2/3rds of the way through the game when everything becomes focused on the aliens, but the first 5 or 6 levels of the game are absolutely amazing in my opinion.

allgamespc20124174d ago (Edited 4174d ago )

another COD fanboy. Crysis is one of the best fps this generation by FAR. None have matched it in terms of open world and gameplay.

Crysis 2 was the beginning of the end, it just proves how bad a game can be when you cater people like you, the COD fanboy.

Crysis 2 killed the nano suit, the whole idea behind the great gameplay of Crysis 1 was based around the nano suit freedom which was taken away in 2 and 3 in order to be able to fit a linear world in animations in a 512mb ram limit.

Crytek only have themselves to blame, since you know, it didnt even sell well on consoles.

JsonHenry4174d ago

In my opinion the first Crysis was rather good. Not mind blowing. But good.

Hatsune-Miku4174d ago

hopefully crytek is working on bringing crysis 1, crysis 2 and crysis 3 to the ps4 all at 60fps with 1080p. I'd buy it first day and im sure theyd get way better sales on next gen consoles

Lisica4174d ago

Crysis had a good gameplay. If Far Cry had it before Crysis, that doesn't mean it's bad.

Insane graphics, good gameplay, not bad story.

What else do you need?

I disagree. In fact, I just finished Crysis 3 recently (played the other two as well) and think it's the best out of the three. It plays just so much smoother. Framerate is a little bit of an issue, but still, it was spot on with the gameplay. I never cared much about Crysis multiplayer, though.

malol4174d ago (Edited 4174d ago )

did they count digital sales via origin ?

dont know crysis is not my type of game.

and i hope this is not about showing PC gamers in a negative way.

Knushwood Butt4174d ago

Crysis 1 was broken.

After reading years of PC gamers rant about how great this game was, I was disappointed when I finally got to play it. Armour mode is useless to the point of, were it not even in the game, it would not matter. Instead, you're forced to use stealth mode all the time because if you don't, you're dead.

Plus there's the incredibly dumb thing whereby your energy doesn't drain if you don't move. So, in stealth mode your energy drains continually if you move, but if you stop moving, it doesn't. Er, why?

Whatever, it was disappointing, but I see why it impressed people back in the day. Fact is that the gameplay is average at best.

Knushwood Butt4174d ago

lol

Didn't even mention the broken one hit kill punch move, which is easily the best attack in the game.

Stealth up to enemy > one hit kill punch > charge suit > rinse and repeat.

awi59514173d ago (Edited 4173d ago )

@Knushwood Butt

You have no right to talk you had no idea how to use the nano suit lol. Crysis nano suit was awesome, sprint quick change to strength, jump over to building punch through the ceiling, quick change to armor and mow down all the enemies inside. You didnt like the powers because you have no imagination on how to use them properly.

Knushwood Butt4173d ago

@awi5951

Sounds good in writing, only you'd be spotted by the enemy immediately after breaking cover, and would be turned to mincemeat with or without the useless armour.

awi59514173d ago

@ Knushwood Butt

Nope you just suck i stalked and killed them like the damn predator you just suck. Stealth kill, sprint away, zoom in head shot, stealth away, sneak up on a guy with strength grab him by the throat and throw him.

Knushwood Butt4173d ago (Edited 4173d ago )

We all know the stealth works; that's my whole point. Stealth and one hit kill punch are easily the best ways to play the game.

Sprinting is useless, and from memory, the enemy is fully capable of shooting at you AND hitting you when you are sprinting, in which case you are dead in seconds.

Armour mode is also useless, because all it does is absorb a few bullets before it's drained, and as soon as it's drained the enemies with their automatic weapons and deadly accuracy are still shooting and hitting you, meaning you are dead in a flash.

Also, in your little plan of attack you failed to mention that your energy would have been long since completely drained, meaning you wouldn't have been able to do half of what you wrote, because you would have had to find cover after a few seconds of using the suit's powers to recharge it. Only, having already been spotted by the enemy, and with them hunting you down, chances are you'd be dead before you even found a good spot to hide and re-charge.

The AI was totally broken too.

The whole game revolves around recharging your suit (kind of weird how it will recharge indefinitely whenever you don't use it. If you have infinite power to do that, why does the suit need to recharge?), and it's tedious. Still, if you think this is great gameplay, then knock yourself out.

awi59514172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

@Knushwood Butt

Nope you still suck you decloak for a half second and fire and recloak and you dont loose energy. Also sprint was helpful when you combine it with strength to jump into areas you can't usually reach or to close on enemies and meleee the crap out of them.

Also crouching makes energy usage slow down dramatically. There were too many ways to kill enemies i had a blast its a open world game and you just couldnt cut it. You one of the people that says the elder scrolls games are boring because you cant think of anything to do.

Knushwood Butt4172d ago

You still haven't countered the point that you will be instantly spotted, shot at, hit, and likely killed when sprinting anywhere remotely near enemies, and neither armour mode or your supposed god-like gaming skillz are going to change that.

As for open world; not really. More open that your average FPS for sure, but if I wanted open world I'd play Far Cry.

awi59514169d ago (Edited 4169d ago )

@Knushwood Butt

Put your silencer on your gun and aim for the head you nooob. I can clear out the whole map without getting one alert you just suck. And also stealth killing guys you just suck at games the game isnt that hard. Ive killed everyone in a given area with ease, i actually hunt down the eneimes because i want to clear the map i take out all snipers and vehicles you are just bad at crysis.

After Crysis 2 failed to live up to expectations on PC, failed to have TEH BEST CONSUL GRFFX (plus a slew of technical issues), and was overall a disappointing game, it's not a surprise to see Crysis 3 fail.

V0LT4174d ago

Crysis seemed like more of a benchmark tool than a game.

GundalfDeGrej4174d ago

The first one was way more than just a benchmark. The last two? I can agree with you there. They aren't BAD games but rather than expanding the experience they tried to streamline it and make it more accessible to more people which rarely ends well.

I don't see how 100 000 sales in ONE country is disappointing though. Sure, it didn't sell as well as the first game but how could it? When the first game came out it was THE game to buy if you wanted to test your PC (I still remember all the "can this pc run crysis?-threads" on various boards).

awi59514173d ago

Crysis 2 and 3 have subpar graphics compared to the first one. Its obvious they were playing to the console because the graphics where not ground breaking like the first crysis. You can clearly tell they were hold back to make sure a console version of the lvls and graphics could be made. The texture detail was muddy at best even with a 2 and 3 card rig. It was nothing like the first crysis at all. They kept the detail and beauty of the graphics down so they could be downscaled for console and made the pc game look like a crap id tech game.

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa525d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno524d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

1nsomniac524d ago (Edited 524d ago )

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast524d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial524d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!

Yep. Wait a couple of years and get this level of performance on a RTX 4070 or 4080 at a much lower price.

Killer73nova1672d ago

And wait a couple more years for rtx 5070 or 5080 at a much much lower price

Yung-T1672d ago (Edited 1672d ago )

That headline is a tad misleading.
The rig stated in that YouTube video is extremely high-end (ryzen 3950x oc, 32gb etc) and utilizing special water-cooling solutions, loops with pumps etc.

This rig easily costs 5k+ and a normal pc with a RTX 3090 wouldn't get close to these framerates or sustainable temperatures.

Aggesan1672d ago

Who has a "normal" pc with a RTX 3090?

Yung-T1672d ago (Edited 1672d ago )

There's still a difference between a high-end GPU+CPU and a custom-made water cooling system including a Waterloop&pumps etc though, it allows for much higher performance due to the better temperature management that would fry the GPU&CPU with normal builds.

lonewolf101672d ago

That's why people need to read the articles, most headlines are just to get you to click.

Rainbowcookie1672d ago

You would think yes, but honestly does it happen often 🤣 enough

I_am_Batman1672d ago (Edited 1672d ago )

Most of the threads of the 3950x were barely utilized and none of the games that were tested allocated more than ~12.5GB of system memory. Gaming at 8k is pretty much as GPU bound as you can get so you won't need a water cooled high-end CPU or 32GB of memory.

Psychotica1672d ago (Edited 1672d ago )

How does the cost of the PC make the headline misleading?

Father__Merrin1672d ago

Mega powerful video card but the games you can play on that card are all available elsewhere. I want to see compelling pc only goty material titles ASAP

Psychotica1672d ago

And where else can you run them in 8K or even in 4K with the same level of performance?

averagejoe261672d ago

Who cares? Nobody has 8k screens and the majority don't even have 4k screens.

This push for pointless high resolution is ruining progress. Give us better framerates, lighting, physics, etc. Stop wasting power on needles 8k.

lonewolf101672d ago

@averagejoe26

There are people with 8k monitors though.

Bender65021672d ago

And still we can't escape 30fps.

JCOLE131951672d ago

I mean given the fact the games are running at 8K it doesn’t surprise me...

MrDead1672d ago

DLSS 2.0 no doubt has a big part in this too, The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding run like a dream on my 3080, 4k ultra set to 60fps no drops or stutters and the system runs very quiet. Playing Borderlands 3 on badass settings, Red Dead or Division 2 on 4k ultra all run great (Red Dead has a few drops below 60fps) but my PC is working a lot harder on games that don't utilise DLSS, my room warms up nicely when playing those games.
