GTA IV can physically make you sick

Many gamers often write about first person shooter titles making them ill and even having to take Dramamine because of the camera perspective and fast movements, but GTA IV? That's right if you haven't picked up the game yet or played the portion where you go to the bar and get drunk you may want to think twice about it.

I haven't gone to a bar in the game yet, but a lot of first person games make me motion sick. Might have to pop some Ginger Root before getting drunk in the game...

I never get any type of sickness from FPS games but the effects in GTA IV from drinking were making way nauseous.

If you don't normally get motion sick and this makes you feel dizzy, I can't imagine how it'll make people feel who can't play FPS games normally...

i find the effects of playing to many games cause by the Interlace image technique in tube TV's. Once i bought a high def TV, using a progressive frame rate, i can play for hours without feeling sick

I thought I was the only one that got sick playing the drunken segments. I did it twice. Once with Romin and once on the date with Michelle. I thought we were going to play darts at the dart place. oops. After the first time with Romin, I vowed to stay dry (in game) but accidentally did it again. I know how to tell the difference now. I actually had to pause 3 times while drunk as to not get sick myself.

I only get sick from games if I just spent $60 on a crappy game. GTA doesn't make me sick though, actually no game really makes me sick in any way.

Funny u said that cuz I got drunk twice tryign to play darts with Roman and Michelle, didnt realise u had to go inthe bar to paly darts. And cops dont play aorund with drunk driving in the game, they come flying out of the word works to nab u.

It is a crazy feeling ot be drunk in a game, wonder if Rockstar made that effect on purpose to make u nauseous, just more realism. lol

I dont really get sick in games but playing prey on pc messed with me a bit. all those gravity wall things messed with me. (i know this doesnt have anything to do with gta 4 though)

Wonder if the effects in the PS3 are the smae as the 360 version. My 360 version makes me ill to watch Niko stumble around drunk for too long.

I'd imagine they're pretty close to the same thing. The PS3 uses different lighting filters, but the visuals are almost identical. I doubt something like the drunk filter would be different across the consoles

it has better lightning according to people, the RSX renders the environment better too

I agree, I have heard the 360 version has anti aliasing, that make's it look sharper, but are the framerate the same or better on one of them?

In my opinion, after spending time with both versions on my HDTV, the 360 version is sharper but has more pop-in, while the PS3 version has better lighting and shaders. I personally prefer the PS3 version in terms of visuals because the lighting looks more natural.

From everything I've seen (after spending a few hours with both versions), the framerate seems to be the same. I haven't noticed any major slowdown on either console

LOL!! The drinkin scenes are HILARIOUS! It kinda made my eyes hurt, but I sure felt drunk driving around lol, I was hitting everything, ran over a cop, started getting chased, it was funny, it's a good riot. and the walking is funny too, you go forward and he stumbles sideways haha

yeah it is pretty accurate to be ing drunk. It is a bit annoying when u fall and lose health though. and getting away form cops is a pain in da @ss when buzzed.

That made my eyes water and made me kinda sick feeling, I had to turn away from the screen after a minute just to get my mind back in place. That wobble is insane, I wonder if they figured out it would do that at some point and threw it in.

it definitely brings a new level of realism to the game. Closest thing I can think of was that game on the gamecube that would do crazy things and would make u think the system shut off to make u crazy.

but if you wann see some crazy stuff in gta4 just start running people over in the first person car cam. It is almost disturbing but funny at the same time.

Ratchet and clank games made me sick to where I had to take Dramamine, but even that didn't help as that made me so sleepy that I couldn't do anything the whole day, the best natural and effective drug to take is ginger. I bought ginger pills and take two of them before I play any R&C game even TOD and it works perfectly

What's weird is UT3 doesn't make me nauseous, but some other FPS does, and some 3rd person games like Uncharted makes me nauseous, but others like Spiderman and Spiderman 2 don't, its weird, any theories?

I'm guessing GTA4 might make me nauseous even without the drunk gameplay

in another post, but this is one of my favorite features in anygame. The first time i went and got drunk with Roman it was just craziness, totally unexpected, i couldn't stop laughing. Driving while drunk is almost more fun than trying to walk.

I haven't had any real program with getting sick from GTA, even driving drunk. But I've learned that some games can make me sick, and the biggest cause is the lighting in the room. Playing a bright game in a dark room is a bad idea. So I either turn down the TV brightness or turn on a little light.

But also, for GTA I switched to 720p from 1080i (I have a CRT HDTV) because I figured it would be better on my eyes with all the fast movement, and so that might also be why it hasn't made me sick.

The constant dips in frame rates down to low 20s in mp caused nausea in me.

some people get motion sickness, from the camera movement on screen, not matching what your own motion organ tells you.

I can feel this sometimes when playing if I am tired.

haha i got the feeling of dizziness as i was driving with Niko drunk and the cops chasing me ! So did my best to outchase the cop and then i got in a cab after killing dozens of pedestrians and a headache . lol this game is amazing, the drunk feeling is similar to real life , well done rockstar !

GTA IV is fine, the drunk effect is brilliant without making me sick. However, one game that, strangely, has always affected me is Tomb Raider. If I play it for more than 1 hour I start feeling queasy! Not just the original 1 & 2, but even Tomb Raider Anniversary on the 360. I dont know why this affects me, but other games dont. Maybe something to do with the super free camera movements.

Ive read that Japanese gamers dont appreciate 1st person games as much as western gamers because they get motion sickness.
