Darkout Review | Analog Addiction

Analog Addiction writes:

"Back in 2009, the gaming world was introduced to a pretty unique concept, in the form of Minecraft. The idea was simple: you can build whatever is in your mind – from spaceships, to underground laboratories, castles, cars, ancient temples, torture chambers, whole cities etc. – using blocks, LEGO-style. Sure, other aspects like crafting and survival were also implemented, but the sheer idea of a game limited only by your imagination became a phenomenon in our industry.

Naturally, other developers took this concept, and started expanding upon it. One of these studios is Allgraf, with its game being called Darkout. Darkout is a 2D action/adventure platformer, focusing on exploring, crafting, and building. While it has its moments when everything “clicks,” for the time being, Darkout simply feels clumsy, and incomplete."

Darkout Review | PixelPerfectGaming

With so many games like Darkout springing up recently, it may be difficult for some gamers to distinguish between them. Darkout can be compared to games such as Terraria and Starbound; the premise is very similar. And if you have played any of the aforementioned games, you will know exactly what you’re in for with Darkout. As a game, Darkout is basically an extension of the games previously mentioned. The real difference is that it includes a streamlined Graphic User Interface (GUI) that offers more flexibility to the user, as well as advanced controls.

Darkout Pixle Judge Review

PJ: "Darkout, the adventure game from indie developers Allgraf, was released on Steam on the 4th of December, which, unfortunately for Allgraf and any other game released on that day, was the same day as the somewhat similar Starbound’s Early Access program began. Starbound took off, selling like yummy bananas, while Darkout hasn't done quite as crazily well. Is Darkout really good enough to justify it being another addition to the increasing crowded genre of mine/build/survive-em-ups - or should we just forget about it altogether?"

Darkout Review (PC) | Calmdowntom

"Darkout is survival horror mine and build em’up for the PC. It is basically a combination of Terraria, the movie Pitch Black, and a pinch of Metroid. You play as a character who was jettisoned from their ship and has crashed landed on the planet Illuna, a planet that you had just escaped from. Using tools gathered from your escape pod you need to gather resources to build a shelter before exploring the planet." says Calmdowntom
