My Wife, the Casual Gamer: The 2013 Video Game Year-End Review

FRONTBURNR: It’s been a wild and crazy year this year. We brought back My Wife the Casual Gamer, played a ton of good and bad games and even had a baby. As an observer on the outside, looking in, my wife has had an opportunity to see how the entire year of video games has rolled out. I grilled her on what she thought about various things this year and this is what she said.

Very interesting comments on The Wolf Among Us. Didn't expect TellTale to have that type of impact on casuals but it makes sense the more I think about it.

It was very surprising but that is the whole reason we do this.

Wow, someone that understood that Dragon's Crown art was satire and exploitation -for the sake of it-, because it's fun. :)

it seems to be a hard thing to grasp for some people. She doesn't even play games and figured it out!

Really interesting read, btw!

Your wife, the casual gamer, is slowly starting to become a hardcore gamer. Hating Beyond:TS, being a fan of The Wolf Among Us, getting ALL the collectables in a game (It's Lego, but still!), even 'getting it' about design choices in DC, even hating on COD and Battlefield. By this time next year I could see here doing air juggles in KI and doing a perfect time run on Thief 4 :)
This series of articles has been one of the most entertaining and thought provoking series I've read this year, you two should be really proud to have created something so cool together.

Wow, thanks. The series means a lot to her too because while she hates to play anything online with the strangers of the internet, she is amazed to see people enjoy hearing about her quirky opinions on "games not meant for people like her".

She insists she isn't anything more than casual though. She has no interest in playing most games, except for a select few. I actually want to convince her to try to play League of Legends.

Good luck getting her into an online game, League would definately be a good place to start. I've heard they have a pretty good community there. If nothing else there's at least less swearing 12 year olds :/
