Here Is What Flight Games Could Look Like With BeamNG's Soft-Body Physics Engine

DSOGaming writes: "Our reader 'Jonathan Gustafsson' shared with us a new video from BeamNG's Drive tech demo, showcasing a mod by drowsysam that introduces an actual plane with realistic physics and realistic deformation."

Wings can clip through buildings and look like they're made of cloth after impact? This is like the comically bad "ragdoll" physics when they started appearing in shooters in the 90s.

I suppose you expect everything to perfectly break apart? Ever seen wreckage? Stuff gets mangled. I think this looks good

"I suppose you expect everything to perfectly break apart?"

When it seems like every dev is pushing for real world psychics? Yes.

This is like a step back.

Don't be silly; no one expects realistic damage in a demo for physics showing off a plane crash.

It's reacting like paper or something. What worse idea could there possibly be to showcase physics like that than plane crashes?

whybag4210d ago

Aluminum doesn't sway back and forth like there's a stiff breeze, it buckles and shreds. This demo is just kinda flopping around.

What's worse is I have seen plane crashes, lots of them in our yearly safety briefs, what's your excuse?

Pandamobile4210d ago

You realize that this is just a mod of BeamNG's tech demo, right?

Az1mov4210d ago (Edited 4210d ago )

That physics simulation doesn't look anywhere close to reality. There are engines out there with better physics when it comes to planes. Their car physics though is quite impressive.

There are a lot more dollars behind the development of what cars look like when they crash. This vid doesn't look that good but It's nice to see they're working on it given how small the flight sim market is in comparison.

Az1mov4210d ago

I have to agree on that. totally! Now I do hope they'll succeed in implementing their engine in some AAA racing titles though.

Timesplitter144210d ago

thinking about the amount of work that must've gone into making this gives me headaches

Aleithian4210d ago

Like crap? Kudos for the work, but it doesn't represent damage accurately. Supplement this with break damage and you'll be onto something.

BeamNG's Drive Is Now On Steam Greenlight

DSOGaming writes: "BeamNG’s Drive is an amazing tech demo that features a proprietary soft-body physics engine that simulates every component of a vehicle in real time, resulting in realistic, dynamic behavior. The company has just launched its Steam Greenlight campaign, so that you can vote in order to bring it to Valve’s distribution service."

BeamNG Drive - Next Gen Soft Body Physics Tech Demo - Monster Offroad Jeep Mod

DSOGaming writes: "Our reader 'Jonathan Gustafsson' has shared with us a video from a new mod for BeamNG's next-gen physics tech demo, Drive. As Jonathan noted, this is one of the best most detailed mods for BeamNG's Drive and as the title suggests, it introduces an offroad jeep vehicle to the game."
