Nintendo Seen Missing Target as Sony-Microsoft Sales Dwarf Wii U

Nintendo Co.’s prospects for meeting its profit and sales forecasts for this year are diminishing after Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp. each sold more game consoles in 24 hours than the Wii U maker did in nine months.

Lackluster sales..you could see this coming a mile away!! With no proper 3rd party support( tho Nintendo promise they would be!). System comes with one gamepad, buying another one cost around $150? System is underpowered by today's standards, hence everything fits in a small slim box with no heat problem.

Wii U has sold 4 million consoles, that's roughly the same amount as the PS3 sales were one year after it's launch.

Compare the size of a Wii U to a PS3 slim and 360 slim. Wii U is more powerful than both and smaller than both.

Wii U didn't have hardware failings like the PS4 and Xbone had at launch. Nintendo hardware has always been the most reliable hardware.

And yeah um, Wii U is SUPPOSED to be more powerful than a PS3/360. They are obviously comparing it to the PS4/XB1, in which case it's not even a battle.

Wii U is selling pretty bad in Japan. It lacks the proper third party support that PS3/360 has, the online component is pretty garbage, etc. No GTAV, MGS5,KH3,FF15, hell even EA is hesitant on supporting it,

The PS3 sold 6 million in the first year and Wii U has barely sold 4 million. That is not the "roughly same". Besides PS3 was $600 7 years ago when the currency was much more highly valued while Wii is $300 today. Moreover, the PS3 sold steadily throughout the first year and the Wii U has not even sold a million unit since January 2013. Have you EVER seen a console sell less than 1 million in 9 months? That is why it is considered underperforming. How can you be so biased? It is not even a fair comparison and PS3 still sold more.
Wii U is supposed to be more powerful than PS360; that is nothing to brag about. How about comparing it to other 8th gen consoles like PS4 and Xbone? I know you wont and that is why it is considered underpowered. Again so much bias.
Finally, yes PS4 and Xbone did have hardware issues but they were much less by industry standards which is 5%. Wii U did not have any significant issues and does have high build quality, BUT, does anyone cares? People still bought PS4 and Xbone in millions. Besides no one is talking about any issues now so it was never a serious issue.

@trickman888 The only lack of 3rd party support the Wiiu is missing is EA (Who we know don't get on with Nintendo) and R* who have never supported Nintendo.

The last few months the Wiiu has Batman: Arkham Origins, Assassin's Creed 4, COD Ghosts, Rayman; LEGO: Marvel SuperHeroes; as well as some of its 1st party games like Mario 3D world, sonic lost world, Pikmin 3 ect.

The WiiU is not lacking games its just not being pushed right by Nintendo or the games shops.

Again ive said it here a lot of times but it is a very under rated system and I think sales will pickup for the console if Nintendo can start pushing it like they did with the 3DS 12 months after it was released. Im not saying it will out sell the one or ps4 but I do think in the end it will not be too far behind them and make Nintendo so cash.

The Wii U is smaller than the Ps3 and 360 for one reason. It lacks a hard drive. It has less on board storage than the 2 current gen consoles. Yeah the Wii U is more powerful than current consoles but name one game that shows it. There are no wii u games that the current gens cant run.

First off, lets make sure eveyrone is reading what this article is comparing. They aren't comparing single systems to systems.

They are comparing an 2 "Entire corporations" consoles sales vs. a single game console. Noticed that is not Sony and Microsoft vs Nintendo. Or Sony and Microsoft systems vs. Nintendo's system. No 3DS here which is still dominating the market the last I checked.

If the "Wii U" were beating Sony and Microsoft(2 entire companies gaming division) when those companies are experiencing burst sales for releasing new hardware then those companies would already be dead.

You could have made this exact same statement for Nintendo last year around this time.

On that note, 6 plus years ago the wii U is doing better then the wii did to the date and is sh1tting on the xbox and ps did at that same point but they done ok in the end.

After playing my ps4 Killzone looks great but bar that it's a rubbish game and thus takes me back to Nintendo's comments of games sell systems not graphics.

Nintendo have just done a piss poor job by concentrating on promoting the gamepad instead of the syste, which confused even majority of gamers and they kept the wii name but not showing what was so different with the U added.

Now that every fan boy has purchased their systems the real game begins as to who can get the masses. Right now Nintendo globally has outsold ps4 and xbone but that may change quick so it's down to Nintendo, Sony and MS to do their jobs right.

Based on what I saw at BestBuy this past weekend, this may be an unfortunate truth. There were stacks upon stacks of Wii U consoles all over the game section, even the Wind Waker bundle. It and the 12GB PS3 were the only consoles available in abundance. All the others were completely gone (didn't even see many 360s).

Sales on 3DS and 2DS, though, seem to have shined this season. I think the WiiU is suffering since people are already over the whole "Wii" thing as far as the mass market appeal. Throwing a tablet into the mix that requires the console wasn't the best idea considering people already have a tablet and game on them without the need of a console.

I have not really wanted a Nintendo product since the the early Gamecube days, but even then at like 10yrs old I opted for the PS2...the Wii and now Wii U are just nails in the coffin for me, I'd really prefer Ninty to produce a more technologically capable gaming machine on par or better than PS4, and only then would I definitely buy it...also Ninty needs to get over the whole tablet/motion control schemes and center their products around an actual gamepad...that'd be sweet
