The gap will only widen.

PS4 has more tflop to be taken advantage of. It has more raw power to be optimized.

The gap can get only bigger due to 56 percent GPU power difference.

cleft54215d ago

@GameNameFame

I completely agree with you on that point. People need to wake up and stop pretending like this is the days of the 360. If graphical power for consoles matter to you and it does for a lot of people, than PS4 is the only way too go. I am sure Xbox One games will look nice, look at Ryse, but I get the feeling that in order to make Xbox One games look great it will come at a sacrifice for a long time.

AndrewLB4214d ago

GameNameFame- At least get your numbers right if you're going to act like you know what you're talking about. PS4's GPU does 1.84 tflops and Xbone does 1.31 tflops. If BOTH consoles ran their GPU at the same speed, which they don't, the PS4 would be 40.45% faster using the theoretical and always higher than real-world performance measurement called "tflops".

That doesn't factor in the slight speed increase the Xbone received putting the GPU at 853mhz as opposed to PS4's 800mhz.

Soo... that brings that 40.45% number into the high 37% or so range.

I just don't get why some of you continue to use BS numbers. Both of these consoles are underpowered and hearing Dev's make claims like in the above article's title where they are trying to infer that the PS4 has "power to spare" so they can do experimentation, etc... is factually incorrect.

Oh... and this claim that the gap will only widen is also a bunch of crap. These chips, regardless of optimization and dumbing down textures to run 1080p.. still have a MAXIMUM THEORETICAL performance limit of 1.84 and 1.31 tflops respectively. In English, that means it's physically impossible to process more data per second than those numbers.

alexkoepp4214d ago

Calling it now, this is gonna be another title plagued by the cross-gen blues...

hellvaguy4214d ago

Gap is only gunna widen with gaming pc's as well. U ps4 peeps have to know this by now.

supes_244214d ago

Hellvaguy, when are you gonna understand console gamers don't care about PC crap? I can care less what kind of PC power you're running with. I'm a console gamer and that's all I want. Don't want to game on a PC and never will so stop trying to force your PC specs and garbage at us console gamers. We DON'T care!

ravinash4214d ago

@ hellvaguy - how can everyone forget if your constantly reminding everyone.

hellvaguy4214d ago (Edited 4214d ago )

Look all the emo fans here bragging about the power of ps4 vs x1, then crying foul when pc gaming gets brought up. Ah the hypocrisy of it all. Such fragile egos.

Dying Light looks okay. The foliage looks impressive. Doesn't have the paper thin look like many other games have. Other parts of the game look average. Other parts of the game seems don't seem that interesting. It has a dead island vibe to it in which I was not interested in.

cleft54215d ago

I am interested in Dying Light, I just hope this game doesn't fall into the same trap as most of Techland zombie games do where the enemies get so overpowered that you are just dying left and right in the later game.

christrules00414215d ago

It is like Dead Island mixed with Mirrors Edge but the night time gameplay looks like lots of fun.

pyramidshead4215d ago (Edited 4215d ago )

Cerny Sauce, now with extra compute.

come_bom4215d ago

Microsoft will have to rely heavily on exclusives, because mutiplatform games will most likely look better on the PS4.

Plagasx4215d ago

That is, unless Developers hold back on making the PS4 look drastically better which seems to be the case right now..

nirwanda4214d ago

Multiplatform quality on the ps4 will depend on how much the ps4 outsells the xbone in the future, devs won't take any nonsense from ms if there are more sales to be made from a better ps4 version

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4214d ago

made with the blood of xbox fanboys? looks like it. Must have been easy for kratos to fill those jars.

Nafon4214d ago

I know this isn't a reply, but the OP is off topic anyways lol. I have an honest question here. What i dont understand is that this GPU is supposedly in between a 7850 and 7870 gpu. the 7850 is capable of playing BF4 at 1080p and 60fps on PC where optimization is thought to be very low compared to consoles. Is this just inexperience with the PS4 sdk and lack of time that DICE was unable to get 1080p and 60fps on the PS4?

If these gpu rumors are true, then oh man are we gamers going to get some amazing stuff once devs really start getting all of the power they can out of the ps4.

tee_bag2424214d ago

Good question. Maybe something to do with the comparatively weak CPU. BF4 is quite CPU heavy.

VforVideogames4214d ago

My god again with the same crap

blame xbone's low processing power for ps4's extra power being used for optimization instead of raising the base line of the technical budgets.

Sarcasm4215d ago

Man that's actually an interesting point.

Imagine if the X1's power was actually almost equal to the PS4, we wouldn't have a low baseline to worry about and all gamers would benefit.

I seriously hope developers still choose to max out the PS4 in all ways possible without catering to the lower denominator.

decrypt4215d ago

That depends on how many people buy into the Xbone. If the ratio is anything like current gen you can bet Xbone will be kept in consideration when games are made.

sandman2244215d ago (Edited 4215d ago )

I agree about maxing out the ps4, as long as they keep the frame rate locked in at 60. Like killzone, bf4 and ghost have multiplayer frame rate issues. On battlefield 4 it's noticeable in conquest mode I'm thinking because dice was so concerned about 64 players. Killzone is the same. It's goes from silky smooth to choppy when you get to an area where everyone is going at it. And ghost is hit and miss. Certain stages on multiplayer cause choppy gameplay. I hope developers adress this issue for the ps4 version of games in the future.

dsswoosh4215d ago

@sandman 224

BF4 and COD run smooth as silk on the XB1.

People on N4G are deluded.

The PS4 has better GPU than the XB1 sure, but XB1 architecture is way better than the PS4 at frame rate latency.

Not to mention the XB1 CPU is significantly better than the PS4's too.

The XB1 has lower resolutions, (which is hardly noticable due to the amazing hardware upscaler on the XB1), but it has way smoother framerates than the PS4.

Like i say, this website is so annoying to come to.

It has worse PS4 blinkered fanboyism than XB1 fanboyism on misterx whathisname site.

BitbyDeath4214d ago

@sandman, might be your connection as I was playing Killzone online most the weekend and had no issues

jebabcock4214d ago

If several games are only messing up in multiplayer I'd say you are mistaking framer are issues with connection issues...

Mega244214d ago

@sandman224 You're problems might be your own, as the only frame drop I get in BF4 is when the Tower is falling in Shanghai, or the guard tower falls in OP Locker. KZ:SF works smooth like a babies butt, even in the graphically intense scenes in campaign when Helghan is crumbling, imploding on itself or the MP, when everyone has their drowns out throwing the petrusite grenades, which as amazingly full of particles. Cod Sucks so...

@dsswoosh

Keep telling yourself that, but its not healthy lying to yourself like that.

tee_bag2424214d ago

Well CPU's have a big affect on minimum frame rates. I'm just putting that out there since it seems many of you might not know.

I love it when people actually think the Xbox One is under powered, compared to the PS4 it may not be as powerful. But under powered, certainly not at all.

If I wanted to take my point further, compare the Xbox One to the Wii U.

vigilante_man4215d ago

You say "may not be as powerful". It is definitely NOT as powerful. Just a fact. And people would not keep going on about it if Microsoft stopped trying to imply the XB1 is as powerful as the PS4.

We all know PS4 is more powerful and all hope that any game, even multi-platform, make full use of that power. Only heavy-handed tactics from Microsoft and weak-minded developers/publishers could result in weak parity.

Yes XB1 is a powerhouse in its own right. If only Microsoft would focus on that instead of having an inferiority complex regarding graphics power (or the lack of).

4215d ago
neogeo4215d ago

WiiU has more power then Xbone.

Pogmathoin4215d ago

I know very well that X1 is not as powerful as PS4, its a no brainer. Its also no reason not to own a X1, throughout console history, the 'weaker' console has stood out, Wii being a great example. Its about the games, which will be on 3 different machines. Buy the console of your choice of course, but if you can afford another, please do not listen to blind rabid fanboys, there is choice, quality and serious fun on each machine....

DigitalRaptor4215d ago

It is underpowered. If MS had dedicated the system resources needed for Kinect and the triple-OS, to game performance, it would not be underpowered as it stands.

We're going to see a lot of justification of low standards this gen, all because Microsoft has completely misjudged the market, gamers and future trends.

ABizzel14215d ago (Edited 4215d ago )

@PixelNinja

The XBO isn't underpowered it's just not as powerful as the PS4. To put it simply there are 3 main components in building a gaming device (GPU, CPU, and RAM), and the faster and more powerful and more efficient these components work in tandem the better the gaming device will be.

AMD Hierarchy
TOP (7990, R9 290x)
High (7970 GHz, R9 290)
High-Mid (7970, R9 280x)
High-Low (7950+, R9 280)
Mid-High (7950, R9 270X)
Mid (7870GHz, R9 270)
Mid-Low (7870, 7850 (performance is clock based))
Low-High (7790, R7 260X, R7 260)
Low-Mid (7770 GHz)
Low (7770, R7 250, 7750)
Bottom (7670, Richland APU, etc...)

XBO:

APU-GPU: Low-High GPU (7790 / R7 260)
APU-CPU: Low-High CPU (8 cores saves it)
RAM: Mid range RAM (8GB of DDR3 2133MHz is fast for DDR3, but slow compared to pretty much every contemporary form of GDDR5)

PS4:

APU-GPU: Mid range GPU (a 7860 if it existed / under-clocked R9 270)
APU-CPU: Low-High CPU (8 cores saves it)
RAM: High-Low RAM

There's no debating it the PS4 is the more powerful console, and it's going to be noticeable more powerful if developers don't get MS RAM bandwidth up to the 130+ GB/s that MS has claimed to achieve in house, because newer APUs performance are greatly affected by their RAM speed and bandwidth, and the PS4 is 2.5x faster than the XBO all around.

@Ps4beaver

The one MAJOR thing that's wrong with your argument is that the weaker console has ALWAYS been the cheaper console as much as I can remember. The XBO is not only weaker, but it cost more those aren't two things the average gamer wants to hear when making a choice on which console to buy. The die-hard fans are going to stick with their console of choice to the end, because to them it's psychological and a loss is like their favorite sports team losing. But the average gamer just wants to play their favorite games at their best, and the PS4 is going to be that console for the foreseeable future.

mediate-this4215d ago

Apparently here in n4g, people are game developers, economists, marketers, computer technicians, i say all the time, with time we will see what ps4 can do over x1, so far they both out good looking games. Ryse n kz:sf

ABizzel14215d ago (Edited 4215d ago )

@Pixel

In the real world each tier of GPU increases by 20% - 30% performance difference depending on the game (usually it's closer to 20%). Looking at the PS4 it's APU-GPU has a real world advantage of at least 40% over the XBO. Add in the RAM and that's why games are running at higher resolutions than the XBO out the game. To make matter even worse, these are launch games, so the full Year 1 games are going to show even more of a difference when developers get more hands on, if they don't figure out how to get the RAM speeds and bandwidth up on the XBO to 100+ GB/s consistently.

If they can't get those speeds up 720p (XBO) vs. 1080p (PS4) is going to be a common thing.

@mediate-this

The difference between "game developers, economists, marketers, computer technicians" and most n4g users is that they get paid doing it. That doesn't mean the people commenting are any less insightful or knowledgeable about the subject. I as well as a couple others on here are computer science / computer engineering majors/minors or have their degrees.

I also build gaming rigs for people as a side job, because I enjoy shopping for the best deals and getting the best performance out the budget given to me (it's like Black Friday 24/7 :). Therefore, when it comes to technology, especially computers, which theses consoles basically are (high end gaming laptops) then yes I know a lot, because I do this for a living.

As I said these consoles all have low end CPU's which doesn't really matter, since they're gaming focused and the GPU can pick up the slack.

GPU wise the PS4 is leading the pack with a mid-range GPU, the XBO with a low-high GPU, and the Wii U with a bottom-end GPU (an acceptable bottom end GPU).

RAM is the PS4's significant advantage over the other consoles, as GDDR5 is simply faster and better at gaming than DDR3 and likely DDR4 (if the XBO got it). The XBO is using the fastest market DDR3 out, but it's not going to compete with the PS3's tier 3 GDDR5 and for APUs (both of which the PS4 and XBO are) RAM speed is just as important as the CPU and GPU, because it can truly effect performance such as resolution and fps.

RAM tier
GDDR5 T1 (240+ GB/s)
GDDR5 T2 (180 - 240 GB/s)
GDDR5 T3 (120 - 180 GB/s)
GDDR5 T4 / DDR3 2400 (60 - 120 GB/s)
DDR3 2133
DDR3 1866
DDR3 1600
DDR3 1333

Sevir4215d ago (Edited 4215d ago )

It's funny, how fans always discredit the GPU disparities between the PS4 and XBO, yet and still we hear Developers continually chime in on the PS4 GPU and capabilities, rarely anything on the still secretive GPU of the XBO!

Gamingsince1981115d ago

Wtf did this edition come with ? A real helicopter and a real zombie virus ?

Vithar115d ago

For one lucky person willing to spend $386,000, the My Apocalypse Edition of Dying Light promised a staggering collection. It included the buyer’s face in the game, a human-sized ‘Volatile’ statue, and parkour lessons with a freerunning team. It also came with night vision goggles, an all-expenses paid round trip to Techland’s offices, and four signed copies of the game. Oh, and it also came with a custom-built, ‘zombie-proof’ survival shelter.

LOL but it was a stunt from the team:
‘It was a PR stunt and got a lot of media attention for its wild and over-the-top nature, it was designed to generate buzz around the game’s release. It did a great job of getting the game noticed, though! But nobody purchased it – thankfully, I guess!’

It got a lot of shit from fans more not being as scary at night on release. I was in that boat. But once I gave it a fair shot I really loved it. The movement was so much more expressive to me. I enjoyed the story too.... for the most part. Was my game of the year when it came out. With all the updates for darker nights and all that, it's even better. I feel almost exactly the same about stalker 2 right now. The erojank games are scratching my itch.
