Xbox One Boot Time Comparison And Benchmark: HDD vs SSD vs SSHD

GearNuke: Microsoft’s official statement regarding the storage on Xbox One is that it is not upgradeable but tearing down the actual console reveals that we can do it. The process is risky though and will also void our warranty since we have to open up the console to replace hard disk. A new video shows various HDD tests done on an Xbox One, comparing the boot and in-game loading time on it.

Voiding warranties. Hope MS comes out what allowing external drives or something.

I do not switch off my console so I wanna see it from stand by!

Cold boots allways take longer but I wanna take auto updates so I have it on stand by all the time.

From standy by mine take about 6 to 10 seconds to boot, not voiding warranty as am not that impatient.

I don't care about start time from cold or standby. I do care about cutting down load times for games.

This test shows the change isn't really worth it imo. It's a shame the One doesn't offer SATA3, as then a SSD would probably make a big difference.

A USB3 drive will probably offer more improvement with no taking the console apart. Hopefully we'll have some choice in what gets stored where.

The bootup time was a joke; however the game loading was somewhat of a boost.

However to void a warranty to save a few seconds I'll pass.

Dark_king4165d ago

Won't they end up banning anyone who goes on Live with a non supported hard drive?

Double_O_Revan4165d ago

It would not surprise me in the least. They've banned people for so many other stupid reasons.

I like when they blame and ban customers that receive or purchase games early and play them, even though it was the retailers fault.

@azshorty2003

Who has a ban on their account after launch day that got it early from retailers? Last time I checked the Xbox One uses Microsoft servers. If no one that isn't approved is trying to access them early why are they not afforded the right to prevent that? The easiest way to do that is a built in system of banning.

Seriously people need to think logically here. If you happened to get your system early that in itself does not allow you the right to use a service before its ready. Everyone knows you have to get online with the X1 that means you have to agree to their service agreements.

Show me one case where a person who received a console early and was banned longer than the launch day and I will empathize with them. Otherwise its MS protecting what they have a right to protect. If you have ever spent time in trying to protect products and services from leaking early you would know what its like and also know that just because a retailer messes up does not mean MS has to pay for that mistake by allowing them to use a service not available to the general public.

Now I am not saying MS hasn't banned people for stupid reasons but your example is not one of them. Not to mention this is basically SOP for MS so by now if you get something early and still try to play it you should know whats coming and if you don't like it speak with your wallet/purse and keep it closed.

Double_O_Revan4164d ago

@ Gh05t

Easy there. At no point did I say System, I said Games. Like when they were banning people for getting GTA, Halo, Gears, and I think even CoD early.

Einhert4165d ago

This console will not take advantage of an SSD, it is a great upgrade to a PC just having everything load faster sounds like a simple system upgrade but it makes a big difference.

Those boot times are shocking though, My PC boots in about 18 seconds from cold then as soon as I enter a password im straight in and ready to use.

Those loading times would likely drive me mad.

SirBradders4165d ago

Thats shocking imo and if my ps4 isnt any different ill be highly disappointed.

decrypt4165d ago

Cant expect a Tablet CPU to take advantage of a SSD.

Volkama4164d ago

It's a SATA2 connection, that's probably more of a restriction than the CPU. Not saying the CPU is good though lol.

decrypt4164d ago

Sata 2 isnt really that bad, Equip a PC with Sata 2 with an SSD and you will immediately see a performance boost.

I think rest of the system plays a large part on the performance.

"OMG" END OF THE WORLD"lol"
People, you take this stuff way to serious!!

‘GTA V Gets Pulled from PS Plus as PC Players Continue to Favor Legacy Over Enhanced’

That’s an awful clickbait title. The use of the word ‘as’ means the first statement is the result of the second, when in reality they’re not connected.

Profchaos6h ago

Also the same for red dead redemption 2 and GTA trilogy (albeit they split that into individual games)

Tacoboto5h ago

It just got put back on Game Pass recently too.

GTA V is the pass-around sub title, and it probably doesn't even matter because everyone owns a copy or even two by now.

Trash article and trash website.

Doesn't even mention WHEN it's leaving.
