Sometimes you just have to stop in the middle of the game to enjoy the amount of detail that went into this game. This is hands down the best looking game I've seen on my 55in pany.

alexkoepp4221d ago (Edited 4221d ago )

Got both systems now and ryse looks a little better on my 55 Samsung, both are phenomenal looking games though, on par with a lot of PC stuff

first time I've heard "building blocks" in graphics though, not even sure what that means...

Skips4221d ago (Edited 4221d ago )

"ryse looks a little better on my 55 Samsung"

You seem to be in the minority with those who think that. lol. Ryse runs in 900p but still looks just, OK (IMO) for a next gen game.

Ryse's linear levels, are definitely not on par with Killzone's. It does look phenomenal compared to most of the other Xbox One games though. Just a shame Crytek couldn't fix the massive framerate dips, get it running in 1080p, and open up the levels a bit more. : /

"first time I've heard "building blocks" in graphics though"

Same. lol

Gamoc4221d ago

I've heard all over the place that Killzone SF is more impressive than Ryse. Even Polygon said so.

alexkoepp4221d ago

I don't know what you mean by ryse levels not on par with killzones. Again I own both games, I would have to bet you don't because the whole "900p" comment. (resolution is one aspect of graphics in a game, if you've ever played a PC game you'd know there are a dozen or more tweakable graphics settings, one aspect doesn't define a games looks - also argue semantics all you want both the x1 and ps4 output everything in 1080p to my television)

ryses forest scenery is much better looking than the forest in killzone. While there are some dips in frame rate to say there are massive dips is just false, happened once or twice to me and was hardly distracting.

also not sure what the point is of comparing games that are out now to graphics of future titles, you would hope that games are going to look better in the future, at least I do

ABizzel14221d ago (Edited 4221d ago )

PS4 is already a big improvement over the PS3.

2x the resolution
3x the onscreen quality (map size, characters, buildings, textures, etc...)
30% at least performance increase (fps, AA, screen tear reduction, etc...)

And these are PS4 launch titles being compared to the PS3's peak performance. Can't wait to see what Sony's first party comes up with in 1 - 2 years.

Skips4221d ago (Edited 4221d ago )

@ABizzel1

Dude, that Infamous SS neon gameplay STILL blows my mind. lol Especially with all the destruction going on within it's open world environment.

I'm incredibly excited for their next projects after SS. And not to mention SSM and ND's.

@Gamoc

I haven't kept up with much gaming news lately but even Polygon believes Killzone looks better than Ryse? lol I knew a majority knew it but I didn't think Polygon would ever admit it. XD

The minority group that alexkoepp is in must be smaller than I thought. lol

@alexkoepp

"ryses forest scenery is much better looking than the forest in killzone."

Although not by "much". That's about the only thing I can agree with you on. lol. Everything else about Ryse though, (IMO) is inferior to Shadow Fall.

CryofSilence4221d ago

Ryse has better character models, but Killzone provides a better overall package with superior resolution/environments/effect s/etc. People's preferences will be weighted by that: do they prefer character or overall package? I prefer Killzone, myself.

Idba4221d ago

You've been hating one the PS4 in every comment you've posted and you've also said offensive stuff towards those who likes PS4. And now suddenly, you have PS4? lol keep trying fanboy

stuna14221d ago

Yesterday was my first time chance to see and play the games for Xbox1 at a Microsoft store, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that "ALL" Xbox1 games look nothing like they were shown to look like! With Ryse being the best that's being offered! Beautiful as far Marius being center stage, but most don't realize what lurks in the background as far as character models being reused as well as a sharp contrast to model of Marius.

Forza 5 has a very big discrepancy as far as what most have seen! It is nowhere as impressive as many were led to believe, if anything graphically it really could be comparable to GT6 which is on the PS3. The 2d nature of the crowd really do stand out! To me the buildings were more impressive than the actual cars.

Dead Rising although I was impressed as far as what was going on on-screen lots of mayhem, the dips in frame rate were still prevalent as well as the graphics looking like they could be still accomplished on the 7th gen consoles, probably not as well, but possible. Fun none the less.

Killer Instinct definitely wasn't anything I felt couldn't be accomplished before, but it was very fun.

So as far as the Xbox1 goes upgrade? Yes. Massively? No! Plus it really didn't help me to get a enjoyment factor out of it, when the whole time there was 2 Microsoft technician standing by at all times.

Ryse doesnt look better and its lower resolution troll.

baodeus4221d ago

So what type of lighting and AA they used for KZ:SF? Is the frame rate consistent or fluctuate between 40-60 (for MP)? You guys can probably get this from digital foundry analysis and what Gg actually said about the tech they used.

seem like people are being selective on the information here.

DOOMZ4221d ago

RYSE looks a LOT better!

abstractel4221d ago

"..on par with a lot of PC stuff"

What PC games look better than Killzone SF? Crysis 3 _maybe_ but Killzone has that beat in scope and technical features unless you feel that resolution and framerate beats KZ because that can obviously go much higher on a PC. Very few PC games have screen-space reflections and shadow casting volumetric lights for an example. C.A.R.S. looks good, especially the vehicles, but I'm not a big fan of the weather effects or the environments (especially from an artistic point of view).

Personally I think Ryse looks great, and I would have bought it but was very disappointed by the repetitive combat/enemies.

Shadowfall is in my opinion underrated both graphically and gameplay wise.

When you say pany it reminds of a funny near death situation I had.

So we're in NY, after a wedding, heading back to the hotel. Friend is driving, Brother is navigating. So he tells the driver, "make a right on "pensy" dog" (Since we been in NY he's been adding a funny slang to his words... My friend has no idea about the slang. So he's looking for pensy St). We're in the right lane coming up on Pennsylvania ave, and he moves to the middle lane. My Brother screams "what are you doing?! this is pensy!" Friend makes one the sharpest right turns ive ever seen from the middle lane. Two cars in the right lane slam their brakes, and our car squeaks by, barely avoiding a crazy accident. For sone reason we all laughed it off

FamilyGuy4221d ago

Laughing in the face of Near Death, Deaths frail and far less menacing cousin.

neoandrew4221d ago

"This is hands down the best looking game I've seen on my 55in pany"

Then surely you haven't seen any pc game including crysis 3 on your 55in pany.

AndrewLB4221d ago

Exactly what i've been saying. PC had graphics like this 4-5 years ago.

neoandrew4220d ago

6 years ago actually, it was crysis 1 release time, and no disagrees will change that.

cyclindk4221d ago

I thought 32 inch was plenty big last gen, but now, I think I really need bigger to appreciate these games. Especially Assassin's Creed... the oceanic parts, beautiful.

SpecialK4221d ago

Get yourself a 42" TV, theyre pretty much the standard in shops now and are ridiculously cheap!

TV I have I remember costing £900 for a 42" a few years back and it was 720p, nowdays you'll get a 1080p 3d 42" tv with a decent screen from £400 if you shop smart.

Panasonic have one with a good screen, and sony's offering is pretty nice to.

(I know this because ive decided my tv isnt good enough either now =P)

JLT-Sandwitch4221d ago

I thought the same. Got a 32 inch for the ps3 but I just brought a 50 inch ready for the ps4. Can't wait till friday :)

Evil_Abed4221d ago

Yeah we'll not much else going for it besides the graphics. Killzone series needs to just die.

irokster4220d ago

What an idiot you are...

hellzsupernova4221d ago

I hop gg can get some good story writers for the next game, and less waves, shooter fatigue is very prevalent

Best looking game though

Yourpapa4220d ago

a flop with 26.000 building blocks. Cool!

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF4220d ago

What video game doesn't have both gameplay and graphics?

Gamingcapacity4221d ago

You know what I mean you little joker you!

IcicleTrepan4221d ago

KZSF definitely is beautiful, but it's definitely a mediocre game. If you want to know why, just check the angry joe review of it. He nails every reason why this game is not great. And before you call me a fanboy, I own this game and have beaten it.

Gamingcapacity4221d ago

@Icicle

It's totally fine to have an opinion if you put it across correctly which you have done.

I haven't played the new Killzone yet so I yet have to make a judgement. But I know people slated the old Killzone's gameplay which I enjoy a lot to play. I think it's could be a matter of taste rather than bad/good gameplay because it certainly isn't broken.

The gripe I have with Killzone 3 is the cover system and the fact that enemies can still easily pick you out while crouched behind cover. Not sure the reason behind this design (maybe to make it harder and not give you completely save zones) but I found that annoying. Hopefully the cover system has changed in Shadow Fall.

IcicleTrepan4220d ago

@Gamingcapacity

I think that the cover system has improved a bit then, but sometimes it can be iffy, almost like you have to be in the right spot for the game to clue in that this is what you're trying to do.

People are saying the multiplayer is great.. well it is fun.. but there's no voice chat included in the game so any team game is a bit of a waste since you can't communicate with your team - unless you happen to know them all already and do a party chat.

mdluffy4221d ago

Indeed...just take a look at Ryse. That game puts me too sleep every night!

thief4221d ago (Edited 4221d ago )

Which is why Killzone would always be a great series, even without the graphics, because of it's unique gameplay, the weight on the guns, the excellent multiplayer. Unless, of course, your idea of "gameplay" is to play like a COD clone.

That being said, KZ's multiplayer component is stronger than it's single player. Strangely enough, didn't see that being an issue with CoD or BF4 when it comes to reviews.

Incidentally, the current user scores on amazon for KZ (4/5)v are well above that for the PS4 versions of CoD or BF4 (3.0 and 3.3.) And yet, the metacritic scores are the reverse. Wonder who knows better, the gamers or the reviewers who have been proven in the earlier generation to systematically score PS3 exclusives lower.

Xsilver4221d ago

That's what i find Funny some reviewers act like KZ is all about the Story when its not its about the Stellar Multiplayer but hey anything to give KZ a low score am i right because BF and Cod Story's suck but in reviews people talk about the Multiplayer Only and act like the story is a add on :/.

Corpser4221d ago

If only ps4 owners agree with you on mp. Less than 1500 are playing kzsf mp right now, 30000 are playing cod ghost mp

monkey nuts4221d ago

It'll be 1501 players come this Friday hopefully. Gotta pick my bundle up from my local game store before work. (Uk) (s.wales)

Visiblemarc4221d ago

If it were only either/or, next gen would be pointless, in fact even last gen..ps1 had gameplay all day.

At some point graphics matter, because immersion matters.

Coming from a fan of Killzone, I needed a break from FPS games after starting this. I will play it sometime in the future, but right now I'm over fatigued with all the other FPS games I've played. The little bit I did play I liked it; the drone with the touchpad made things a lot easier, and I like how it's after the events in 3.

I'm still sad that homeboy died towards the end of 2 though:(. I do like how they retell some of what happened in the first game for those who never played it.

staticdash224221d ago

This game does right to the helghast. A better told story, that's more grey than straight up space nazis! I just wish they dived more into characters like Hera Visari and Saric.

Ohai4221d ago

I agree man. My only 3 games, physical copies, are fps.

chrissx4221d ago (Edited 4221d ago )

Wow that's so impressive, and guerilla games said they barely used a scratch of ps4s power on KZ SF. More Greatness still awaits even

HighResHero4221d ago (Edited 4221d ago )

Their next game will make this look like Uncharted 2 VS Uncharted 1, as beautiful as Shadow Fall may be.

15 Last-Gen Games That Still Compete with Current-Gen Graphics

GB: "Say what you will about the state of the industry, but even as games evolve, their graphics remain a key aspect. Even some of the biggest flops this year sport some gorgeous visuals, as publishers and developers push the boundaries of what’s possible, pouring years of time and money into their work."

Quantum Break and Ryse are two that I was really surprised did not get an FPS boost option when played on the Series X|S. when i started playing both on the XBO, I thought they are both good, but after playing them also on my steam deck (in 60fps) I just cant go back and play the base games on XB. They really benefit from that faster frame rate.

Driveclub is another i wished had a HFR mode on PS5.

MatrixxGT228d ago

Most games this gen are the exact same except now we get faster loading through SSD and a res and fps bump. Graphically not much has improved, hell most last gen games are being relabeled and resold as “remastered” with the aforementioned updates.
I haven’t seen or played anything on either platform that couldn’t be run on last gen. Guess the law of diminishing returns is really showing itself these days.

127maXimus228d ago

Most games from 20 years ago are basically the same as today, with resolution and fps upgrades. The AI is still just as braindead as it always has been, worlds are full of static, boring characters that do the same thing over and over.

Demetrius227d ago

Smh another reason why graphics haven't improved that much is because most devs too caught up on cross gen. Ps4 was/still a dope console but time has moved on we're halfway close to a ps6 reveal and devs still will be making games on last gen in 2025. Then theres Microsoft purposely got the Xbox series s that causes more devs to try to pull strings as much as they can smh. It's a mixed bag of stuff, the only ones I see pushing hardware is sonys studios and even some indie games look better

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX235d ago (Edited 235d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne235d ago (Edited 235d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro235d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken235d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown235d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72235d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken235d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya234d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast235d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood235d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

Killzone After a Decade in Hibernation

It's been 10 years since Killzone: Shadow Fall arrived for PlayStation 4 early adopters, and there's no sign of another sequel.

Obscure_Observer578d ago

Sadly it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer.

Vengeance1138578d ago

lmao sadly? Are you pretending to have actually played the series lol Sorry bud, no Killzone on Xbox.

Cacabunga578d ago

With the downfall of COD and BF, Killzone def. has a chance to make a groundbreaking comeback

577d ago
Notellin577d ago (Edited 577d ago )

What a low-functioning reply here typical of the fanboy N4G community.

Rimeskeem578d ago

“Dumped”

I think it’s called moving on.

Barlos577d ago (Edited 577d ago )

They brought out 4 main games and 2 spin offs: one on PSP and one on Vita. That's a decent run for any series. I also understand that Shadow Fall wasn't a success commercially despite it coming out at PS4 launch, and as a big Killzone fan even I couldn't get into it, so I think Sony/Guerrilla could see it was time to move on.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love another Killzone game in the vein of KZ2 but it's just not happening. Hell, I'd even take a remake or remaster of the first 3 games.

I'd hardly say it was "dumped" though, it spanned 3 console generations and 2 handheld generations.

1Victor577d ago

@obscured:”Sadly it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer”

Happily it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer( edited to reflect the writer true feelings and allegiance)
Kill zone was a FPS far ahead of its glitched competitors with nauseating bad camera angles, 10 years old screaming curses like a drunk sailor and bot aiming assist.

ChasterMies577d ago

“Sadly”?

The Horizon games were among the best games of all time. Killzone Shadowfail wasn’t.

Shane Kim577d ago

True, but damn the memories of KZ2 multiplayer. Still no MP as fun as that to this date.

Mr_cheese577d ago

Dumped and shelved are two different things

Tacoboto577d ago

I loved the KZ2+3 campaigns and MP in 2. There could be so much more done with the franchise. Horizon although good, I wish they'd go back to this wonderful IP. Take a break from Horizon please.

Flawlessmic577d ago

Agreed dude, I would absolutely love a reboot of the series, one can only hope that either resistance or killzone makes a return.

Have nothing but great memories, especially of the first 3 games, but all 4 were show stoppers graphically.

blackbeld577d ago

To making it a successful reboot they have to change that buttons layout! Make it playable like the cod button layout. Otherwise I’ll skipping it again.

Rynxie577d ago

And that's the reason why many fps games failed. Instead of being original and catering to it's fans, they tried to make it like cod. No, kz doesn't need cod button layout. It needs to be like it was on kz2 or balanced liked kz3.

Lightning77578d ago

I think Kill Zone would do great in Sony's LS push. As well as MAG reboot and bring back Resistance into LS.

Sharky231577d ago

@Lightning77

I think WarHawk would have been a great Live service game.

thorstein578d ago

Killzone games were so polished. The gameplay was just simple joy. MP was one of the best experiences.

I remember KZ3, just staring at how awesome they animated the water and then getting wasted because of it.
