The PS4 web broswer is a big step up from the PS3 one but I still wasn't expecting to read this.5x faster is a pretty big amount. Not 5 seconds faster, 5 TIMES faster.

For comparison's sake 17W Intel Core i5/i7 chips score 120-140ms on Sunspider running IE11 on Windows 8.1.

Obviously the PS4 / Xbox One won't be able to compete in a browser benchmark with Ivy Bridge or Haswell (since browsers aren't going to be that heavily threaded, and per clock a Core i5 is still much faster) but the Microsoft results are still very surprising.

Actually no IE is more secure, Chrome is one of the least secure applications you can use.

I only use IE for downloading stuff from Microsoft's website to avoid the extra Genuine Windows validation steps that occur on some of their downloads. I gave up on Opera a long time ago as I absolutely hated the layout of the interface.

The ONLY reason I use Firefox so heavily is because of the extensions I like to use. Some of my extensions are only made for Firefox and I've become so dependent on some of them that it makes it hard for me to use anything else. I don't even use the BETA versions of Firefox anymore as half of my extensions usually aren't ready for the BETAs as they come out.

It just seems to busy and cluttered with too many things everywhere, with too many sub-layers of menus. Not a big fan of the whole 'squares' design either.

Just comparing it to the PS4 UI - PS4 is just so much cleaner and non-cluttered and just easier on the eyes.

Ryse reviews incoming, and as of now it's average is a 4/10. Only one review but it's from known MS cheerleader Adam Sessler.

If you look at all available games, the reviews are very close. If you look at just exclusive scores, XB1 has the edge but it's not exactly a landslide.

They massively updated the Vita browser after launch. Then followed another update adding features like being able to navigate with buttons so as not to blur the screen you're trying to read from.

X1 uses a fully functional IE 11 browser with voice and gestures etc (would love to see a review to see if you could play Browser games on it as that would open up a whole new gaming area for a console.

It would be nice if people actually read the article, rather than just grabbing the headline. The author of the article suggests that the disparity in speed is attributed to the amount of cores being used by each machine. For example, he believes that the X1 is likely using just 1-2 cores whereas the PS4 is likely using more. His theory is based on the amount of heat being generated by each machine.

We all realize that the PS4 has more graphic cores and faster Ram, but some of you Sony people really have to calm down about the comparisons of these two machines. They aren't as different as you want to believe.

I use Chrome and Firefox...that being said, IE has always been a rather slow browser, so this isn't surprising, but the trade off is much better security...that being said, both of these browsers are still rather fast, so this is a bit misleading...it's not like you'll be waiting for very long for either. So if you do all of your internet browsing on a console....this might concern you for the extra two seconds it takes IE to fully load, and if that 2 seconds bothers you....you probably have other issues.

This does bring of a good question though, being that XB1 Os is somewhat a form of Windows 8, I wonder if there will ever be a way to use other browsers...anyone know? Doubt it at launch, but I can see it happening in an update...and there are already ties with google and such

Read the article, folks. This has nothing to do with IE or whatnot.

The XB1 is using 1-2 cores for IE, while the PS4 is using all 8 for its browser.

Here's the irony -- The XB1 will still be it's same speed while you're playing a game. played around with the ps4 , just started with the xb1 , and the xb1 is far superior web browsing imo , ps4 looks like something that was made for last gen console , xb1 looks like its so much more integrated , works smoother . hopefully sony works to get it better .

Well we all knew IE is not the greatest or quickest.
I use Chrome for home use but when it comes to work I use IE over any other browser out there. Why because its not about speed but its reliable to the extent that all my web apps just work.

But then again Consoles are not meant for work use, and I'd rather much browse on my PC vs a console, because consoles are usually in front of TV's and it aint that good for browsing vs a standard monitor.
