Gamers Should Be Very Concerned For The Xbox One’s Future

WGTC writes: The Xbox brand, as we know it, is facing some very real threats from within. It is impossible to predict what the future holds — as we can only guess as to what direction the board and new CEO will take the company — but prospective Xbox One owners would be wise to at least consider the possibility that Microsoft could sell, spin-off, or shut down the Xbox business in the not too distant future.

what the author discusses did cross my mind with articles about the big honcho (paul allen and Stephen Elop) wanting to sell the xbox one off, we would have to wait and see how it plays out

I would be happy if Microsoft sold the Xbox brand.

Just stop and think for a moment.

Instead of Xbox being shackled to the bloated beast known as Microsoft, instead of having endless non-gaming features crammed in, instead of the Xbox brand being co-opted in favor of non-gaming visions (TV, advertising revenue, Bing) a company could take the Xbox brand and make it a gaming brand again.

I'd love to see that.

Let me reiterate: I don't want the Xbox brand to die. I'd be happy for Xbox to remain. I just don't want Xbox to be handled by Microsoft any more.

The problem is that Microsoft keeps a death-grip on all of their IPs and properties. They never sell off their projects. They keep 'em, even if it means they stagnate for years and years.

Agreed on all counts.

Although, I think there might be a chance for a sale in this case with new management coming in. If nothing else it will be interesting times ahead.

Xbox is on the path of excellence and will be turning a profit from the start of launch this time

"10 year plan"

No arrogant prick is going to come in and change anything

Getting rid of Xbox would be more damaging to Microsoft as a business and they know this

"No arrogant prick is going to come in and change anything"

lol Ironic because of what happened with Don Mattrick.

Microsoft knows there's not a lot of profit that comes from the Xbox brand. A lot of that work and effort can be put into things like the OS and PC gaming. There would be more profit if they teamed up with Valve even, they know what they're doing.

I doubt it will happen, but if Microsoft wants to change their focus, this is the perfect time for it. I mean, it looks like their vision is more on profitting from entertainment outside gaming. That's why they made TV a main focus next to gaming with the Xbox One.

Doesn't mean the Xbox has to die, it could possibly mean better management for the brand since MS doesn't know what they're really doing with it.

I'm a be honest.... I couldn't give a toss about Xbox 's future whilst under Microsoft... look at what they tried to pull and have pulled with the xbone.. the DRM issues and all the draconian control they wanted

yet have still released a weaker console at a higher price.

I wouldn't shed a tear if Xbox division was sold to a company who actually cares about games... seeeeeega

Kryptix1846d ago

Well said, I think Xbox could receive better management than from what MS has become. And it could mean good things for the Xbox fans if it's given to a group that is in touch with the gamers. I'm thinking Samsung since they turned Android into a powerhouse in the smartphone market and they could also do the same with the Xbox in the console market. I don't know, but we'll see what happens.

This is nothing but FUD promoted by some bored Sony fanboy.

They will not be getting rid of this division period. If you follow the logic of this article they you may as well write a companion article about how completely fucked Sony currently is due mostly to the losses with the PS3 and the rest of their electronics division. It would make far more financial sense for Sony to divest of PS4 to refocus on the rest of their electronic division profitable and continue pumping out movies.

You don't get rid of a division that makes you money even if it is only 3% of your earnings. Especially when you have no need for cash as MS is sitting on $60 billion in cash that is totally separate from their earnings.

Complete logic fail on this article.

Gamer6661846d ago

I'm sure that person is using it as Fear, Uncertainity, and Doubt...

not the alternate meaning.

KingDadXVI1845d ago

It stands for Fear Uncertainty and Doubt. If you can't figure that you then you should not read my post.
