The Escapist: PS4 Vs. Xbox One Comparison: Graphics, Specs, Differences

The Escapist staff has collectively played a veritable crapload of next gen videogames over the last few weeks. We've banged on the PlayStation 4 with a cat; we've drowned the Xbox One in honey and strawberry juice. We have put the new consoles through the rigors of marathon gaming sessions. Now it's time to give the opinions of editors, broken down in the following categories, before you give you our final assessment.

Really good read, seems like for now the PS4 is a better choice for gamers hardware-wise. (Specs, apps, controller, etc.) Though it essentially comes down to whether you like the games that are out (or that you know will come in the future). As well as what your friends might be getting that will decide your purchase. Can't live without Halo or Dead Rising? Go for the X1. Can't live without Uncharted or Infamous? Go for the PS4. Can't live without Halo AND Uncharted? Go for both, lol. That's what I'm going to end up doing...

I can't wait to see what these two consoles can do in the future. It'll be really interesting to see them develop.

I agree, but the multi-platform titles that makes up a large percentage of the total game experience also needs some consideration. Based on the current evidence (resolution on available titles and hardware) the PS4 should have the edge this generation.

josephayal4174d ago

Technically PS4 looks to have the edge

I would like to confirm

Do I need Kinect to be connected in order for me to play games, both SP and MP?

neocores4174d ago

If u dont know by now lol wow

ufo8mycat4174d ago (Edited 4174d ago )

With so many backwards and forwards from Microsoft, not hard to believe.

I have got the answer as 'No', therefore I can put it in the trash

Thevariance4174d ago

Do not put it in the trash, then its someone else's problem..

I can't understand why the peoples still comparing them to each other those are 2 diff. Machine one build for hardcore gamers (ps4) and other build for casual gamers (x1) also it offer some hardcore games like ryse but come on people we all know under 1080p machine will be like a wii in next year's Microsoft choose there way they want funbase of wii buy x1 and sony choose there way hardcore gamers and some games for casual gamers but they don't want wii funbase this a true some peoples want pure gaming experience and some others want kinetic and other casual experience both consoles will success in coming years every one in it's way

ufo8mycat4174d ago

Microsoft really didn't plan all this very well at all.

Firstly the design if the unit is HUGE, not to mention a external power brick - YAY more space.

And now that Kinect is not mandatory, kind of feels a waste of them keeping it with the console, instead they could of removed it and dropped the price.

THirdly, am I the only one that dislikes the XBONE user interface? It's just too cluttered - PS4 one is nice, simple and slick

If it weren't for XBONE exclusives, I would not even consider getting this system.

mshh44174d ago

I agree with you but I think in near future we will see how Microsoft will use kinetic to made a turely next gen casual experience this is Microsoft strategy

This means they will likely be more open-ended decisions; speed runners may be in for a treat.

Christopher10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

I'll believe it when I see it. I also don't feel Bethesda games are stat intensive as it is, though. It seems pretty basic.

jznrpg7h ago

Bleh I want more stats not less. So lame going for casuals

isarai6h ago

Aren't RPGs SUPPOSED to be stat heavy? So are they leaning even more away from being an RPG? Ugh ☹️

Destiny already has the pretty hyper 'raid' fixation and then they added legendary raid dungeons. Hyperfixating in PvEvP wouldn't work as well because you need a lot more than 2% of the userbase to keep that going unlike raids that are propped up by streamers who make running them their whole job. Most players don't play all the raids let alone run them over and over. And most who play PvP don't want structured PvE elements.
