Dead Rising 3 Review: Dead End | ShackNews

ShackNews - Like any AAA sequel, Dead Rising 3 is a bigger game: the world is more expansive, the weapons hit harder, and the zombies more plentiful than ever. Unfortunately, bigger isn't always better, as Dead Rising 3 is crushed by the weight of its ambitions, making it inferior to the other games in the series.

Ouch looks like the X1 titles aren't immune to the harsh reviews either.. There have been nothing but mixed reviews for games on both the PS4 and X1.. Ohh well it's just launch, better games on the horizon.

SilentNegotiator1798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

I, for one, am happy to see that launch games on neither system got free passes. After a generation where anything below a 9 was considered blasphemy, I never saw this coming.

It's a good start to getting back to using the other 16-points in the common 20-point system.

GameNameFame1797d ago

Cant believe it does not mention 720P resolution.

GameNameFame1797d ago

Cant believe it does not mention 720P resolution.

As a consumer, i should be able to know certain games does not have graphic fidelity I expect out of next gen.

obliteratorFTW1798d ago

Serves xbox fans right after trolling ps4 reviews lol.

obliteratorFTW1798d ago

Oh wow, a new troll account pfft, it appears you are the one crying lol must be hard for you, I can understand.

lifeisgamesok1798d ago

Well friends Dead Rising 3 and Killer Instinct are getting better scores than PS4 games on average

And Forza, Ryse haven't been reviewed yet

SniperControl1798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

Forza, Ryse?? no thanks, rather wait for Driveclub & Second Son in a few months.

See, i can be a fanboy just like you.....

SilentNegotiator1798d ago

Xbox fans didn't put their blood, sweat, and tears into this game; developers did. What some xbox fanboys did has nothing to do with the karma of the games developed by professional adults.

DigitalRaptor1798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

@ lifeisgamesok

There's a pretty damning reason why Ryse and Forza 5 haven't been reviewed yet, and I'm sure you're not paying attention to it.

Bigpappy1798d ago

Most are above 7 to 8.5. Very good for a low resolution, low frame rate launch game. This score is a tad low, but it is from an unfamiliar site.

Forza and Ryse are the ones you want to keep an eye out for. They are the show piece titles for X1.

user74029311798d ago

i think this goes to metacritic :3

GiggMan1798d ago

Forza should do fine. Ryse is going to be mixed like everything else. I don't think Ryse reviews are coming out until almost launch.

SilentNegotiator1798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

Ryse? The game that GI called "fun as dialing a phone", IGN called "boring", Destructoid "a mess", the game to put our hopes into?

Please. Forza will great because it's Forza, but nothing suggests that Ryse will be anything great.

Going around claiming that Ryse will be Xbox One's show piece and telling everyone how terrible KZ:SF is in all of the low scoring XO reviews (even though it scored in the same range as the titles that you're saying are so great in comparison) much more transparent could you possibly be?

DigitalRaptor1798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

@ Bigpappy

It's a bit 'funny' that there's an embargo on Ryse and Forza 5 being reviewed later in the week.

I wouldn't recommend putting all your cards into those games. Dead Rising might have got away lightly (that 10/10 was ridiculous) with its 720p/20fps mess, but Ryse has been previewed pretty negatively, and we've seen for months that it's the signature style-over-substance we can expect from Crytek.

GameInformer have told us that it's simply not a fun game at all, and that the story and characters are not worth a damn. We've seen that the multiplayer is a hot mess, and reports say it has a pretty short campaign too.

Forza 5 is being shipped as a $60 game, but we all know it's incomplete. It has been stripped of content and features that are expected from a feature-packed Forza (only 200 cars/ 14 tracks) - they're adding a $50 DLC season pass on top of an incomplete $60, and the only new feature I've really seen is Drivatar which has already existed in offline mode for years. This alone might be reason to bring the score down - F5 should have been a budget release like GT5: Prologue was.

Who knows to be honest, these are my speculations and thoughts I've been pushing for a while. A serious shame about Crimson Dragon and LocoCycle - was expecting them to be better reviewed, for sure.

Bigpappy1798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

@DigitalRaptor: no I am not hoping for an particular score on those games. I am just saying that those are the games that have high expectations from X1 fans. I am get Ryse even if it gets a 2/10 average, because based on what I have seen its the type of game that would keep me entertained.

"Crimson Dragon and LocoCycle - was expecting them to be better reviewed, for sure."

Why would you expect them to be better reviewed. I can't remember either of those games getting a good PREVIEW. Everything that I have seen and heard of them is reflected in those scores. I don't see people complaining about the low scores for those games. They are both to XBLA title and Crimson Dragon seems to be getting several above average scores for a rail shooter.

Forza has many features and all that should come out in the reviews. It is what it is.

What a better world we'd have if everyone shared your mentality. Bubs!

monkey6021798d ago

Bigpappy. Dont be praising ryse just yet. I played it at the weekend and it is aweful. I did also play Dead Rising 3 and it deserves a lot of praise. The frame rate stutters were slim to none and the onscreen action was fantastic. It will be the cream of the xboxone launch line up

Bigpappy1798d ago

You played a demo dude. These are reviews of the real game.

monkey6021798d ago

Regardless I know enough now to fuel a judgment and as much as I wanted to love Ryse because it reminded me of shadow of Rome it failed to impress. It looked pretty but it was frustrating and dull to play

Ashby_JC1798d ago

His main complaint..was the size of the map..and getting lost. Surprised he gave it a 6 based on what I read.

The number isn't harsh to me...a 6 means average game. But it's one person's opinion.

monkey6021798d ago

To be fair the map is quite large and navigation was tough because of the clusters of undead. It didnt take from the game though. For me it just seemed like i needed to get familiar with it. The bottom line of dead rising was that it was a blast to play

CYCLEGAMER1798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

There is not one game that will get a perfect score all the way around, simply because there will always be sites that want to go against the grain.

You could produce the "perfect game", but there will always be that one or 2 sites that grade the game low just to stand out be different and draw attention to themselves.

Not that it really matters to me because I am getting all of the launch exclusives (for ps4 and xb1) but most of the reviews of this game have been positive.

Kryptix1798d ago

People will always have different opinions. If you find a game interesting, you play it. Killzone: Shadowfall and Knack are still enjoyable games despite the ugly reviews they got and this game will be the same and every upcoming one. That's why I stopped trusting reviews and just judge myself from the main concept of it.

moparful991798d ago

I've come to generally respect and trust GameInformer's reviews over the years.. Every once in a while they post a review that I'm taken aback by but for the most part they are very subjective.

Outside of GameInformer I mostly ignor reviews anymore because of how opinion ladden they are instead of critiquing them based off of individual merits..

Kryptix1798d ago

I agree, GameInformer's reviews are respectable, they outline the positives and the flaws very well. But the score given isn't something that should be taken into consideration since there aren't rules that are given to tell you why you should take a point off. It's really up to you to analyze and see if the positives overcome the negatives because no game is perfect and if the core of the game can grasp your attention throughout the experience, then you'll end up liking it. Deadly Premonition, interesting story, flawed gameplay, still good in the eyes that love story telling. Just an example, but nothing wrong with picking up a game that some or most people don't like, as long as you get something out of it from the experience.

Funantic11798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

If you read the article the author says the game is big and open with plenty to do. Maybe he felt like there was too much to do and was overwhelming but it's not like you're on a timer the first play through. His only legitimate issue is the drops in frames but he also said it was from an early code. That's not enough reason to give it a 6. That's a lot of zombies and ign said it was the most ever on a screen at one time in any game. Plus mostly all the zombies look copy and pastes. Another site gave it a 10 out of 10 and maybe it didn't deserve that either. So the overall average for this game is around 8-8.5 out of 10. Not bad.

first1NFANTRY1798d ago

Wow that was unexpected. Something tells me this is a troll review. Or is the frame rate issue that serious?

pacostacos1798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

supposedly there's a patch at launch that locks the frame rate ... still pretty solid scores 78 on metacritic
edit : From Edge
"...the game maintains a steady 30fps (once you’ve downloaded the day-one patch), even during busy scenes, and once you’re playing there are no loading times to interrupt your journey."

Bennibop1798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

What goes around comes around! Sadly I can't help but feel satisfied when I see a bad review for a x1 game after the ridiculous behaviour over the last week.

thrust1798d ago

Xbox one is doing really well only a couple of troll reviews out there and with the amount of game that the Xbox one has it doing very good ;)

Thing is the ps4 got lots of bad reviews and it has few games :/

Kryptix1798d ago

A 6 is slightly above average, how is this a troll review? I think the problem nowadays is that people are made to think that 7 is average and 8 is good. 5 is an average, "really hate it or love it" type of game, depends on your tastes.

If you like the concept of killing dozens of zombies at one time and going reckless, then you already love the game. Don't let a 6 make you think it's less than average, it all depends on you. Anything lower than a 5 are games you shouldn't even look into, those are the worse ones.

For example, I enjoyed Army of Two and it got 6s, just liked the concept of playing with a friend, the coop made it very enjoyable.

from the beach1798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

This is the least positive review so far for Dead Rising 3 and it's a bit sad, and a bit desperate, to see people leap on it. I thought the scores for this game would have come in a smidge higher but hey.

DigitalRaptor1798d ago

"lots of bad reviews"

Will still end up averaging the same, when all is said and done.

"has few games"

Still has a larger lineup at launch than the XB1 does.

Death1798d ago

78 Meta so far.

That's like a AAA game now that we have established 50 is average and a 70 is a great score.

torchic1798d ago

70 is not a great score if you're going to use Meatscore!

Metacritic did number crunching and saw that anything below 75 is "okay to good" but very far from great, and is branded with a yellow label.

let's not all of a sudden pretend like 50 is an average, when all generation long 6.0 - 7.0 has been considered average, in the best interests of your favoured console.

DigitalRaptor1798d ago (Edited 1798d ago )

Was this suddenly established because it's the standard to which Xbox One launch games meet? This entire generation, people have been treating 70 as average. I'm not saying 70 is average, I'm just pointing out a somewhat declared standard that has been around for years. But Xbox fans, moving the goalposts, as usual.

Death1798d ago

I agree 70 is average. With a Meta of 73 Killzone Shadow Fall is an average game. Knack has a 58 meta which is well below average. Dead Rising 3 currently has a 78 which is still average, but getting very close to being above average which should start at 80.

DigitalRaptor1797d ago (Edited 1797d ago )

Thanks for twisting my words and kinda proving my point.

70 is not average, it's just incorrectly perceived as average due to "console wars" and fanboys. What you did there was try and act as though Dead Rising 3 will not be an average game if it gets 1 measly measurement above a 79. "oh look, Dead Rising 3 is validated now, because it's not a 79/100 game anymore, woop, woop". <- is what you sound like.

If you have a fair gauge of criticism, 70 is a good game, 80 is a great game, 90 is an excellent game and 10 is a masterpiece. An average game is 50-60. Knack can be called an average game. It depends on what you find fun and how you judge a game. However, no-one was expecting Knack to be anything more than a fun distraction - and fun action game, it is according to most gamers who have played and commented on it. Journalists were obviously expecting more from a game that was never going to be more than it was intended to be.

Death1797d ago (Edited 1797d ago )

Gamespot and GamesRadar define a 5 as "Mediocre". (Gamespot gave Knack a 4 for "poor").

Merriam Webster defines Mediocre as "of moderate or low quality, value, ability, or performance". http://www.merriam-webster....

People were and apparently still are defending a 5 as being average or good. Mathematically 5 is the average between 1 and 10. On a grading scale a 5 or 50% is a failure. I guess you need to pick which scale you live by and apply it impartially across the board. You get a 70% on your math test and it's a C or average grade. Get an 80% and it's a B. 90-100% being an A. If you want to view 50% as being average or acceptable, I'm cool with that. You may want to bump your standards a bit though. Sony was shooting for 7's.

Is it me or are these launch review scores all over the place? I cant tell if some of these sites want the clickbait or they truly dislike the game? By game I mean any launch title....

monkey6021798d ago

The launch line up for neither is spectacular. Its to do with hype too though. Its hard to live up to high standards starting a new generation. The first year will be slow but we will get there

I think the whole "neither lineup is spectacular" is a copout. The xb1 has a VERY good and diverse next gen title lineup, and so far the games have been getting above average review scores.

You are going to get your random "dis article" but that just comes with the territory, some of these websites need clicks to survive.

monkey6021798d ago

The launches will sell more multiplats. The likes of battlefield, ghosts, black flag and FIFA will be the big sellers. I believed the Xbox one was getting the better line up but after playing them all a few days back I'm not convinced. Too many of them just don't fell like fresh experiences or justify the new hardware. Dead rising and forza were the showcases. Everything else felt rushed and like it could have been done on current generation systems. Same for the Ps4 it has killzone which looks phenomenal but it'll take a while for either to show their colours

Juiceid1798d ago

Most reviews are all over, and anyone would be foolish to completely take to heart a singular review for anything. Remember opinions are like a**holes, we all have them.

L0Lcano1798d ago

I expect big things from Ryse and Forza but this game looked absolute pants. 720p and a chugging 30fps with the same old gameplay but just with far more zombies this time. You can tell it was originally a last gen title that was hastily patched for xbone
