.02% failure rate is nothing to be concerned about. A lot of these stories are surfacing from the same one or two sources, while others are baseless without evidence.

Xbox 360's failure rate was 50%+

Let's see what they say next week when Xbone launches to the same issues, if not worse.

Well it sucked for me cause I got a ps4 with the hard drive problem. The hard drive was clicking so it was doa. Luckily I was able to replace mine with another and that works flawlessly. But then I had a customer come in with that hdmi problem so who knows how truly extensive it is. We'll wait and see I guess.

i had both launch systems and both broke around a year.

It has a warranty for a full year. I think we're ok. I wish people would stop with these articles. I know it's a good idea to make it well known about problems but these 40+ articles are overkill for the fail % rate.

Mine runs PERFECTLY. As did my launch PS3. Think about it this way: Check out the failure rate VS AMOUNT SOLD. Think about the 1 year FREE warranty, think about the solid fat PS3 vs. the slims (my fat seems to run smoother not to mention the BC) then go buy a damn PS4! You won't regret it if you are a fan of the PS consoles. This is the best one yet.

A lot of the people making these stories up are just desperate that the PS4 would at least have some issues. They want balance. But the truth is that every issue the PS4 has had has been a nonissue. .02% failure rate is honestly so low, you'd have a really hard time finding a dead PS4 of your own. The rest, like lack of MP3 at launch (patch already confirmed) or server overload crashes are normal. Wtf what do we expect at launch, perfection? No one can predict how crowded your servers will be at launch. Even Sony underestimated.

Unlike last gen with 360, where everyone on every forum was reporting red ring all the time, with evidence that it was from different people.

Keep spreading those same sources, guys. I'm sure no one will take notice (lol).

Actually I remember it being very similar to what we are seeing here: quite a few reports of failures that eventually turned out to be more widespread.

We simply don't know what the failure rate is at this point. It could be a non-issue or it could be end up being more widespread.

I wish people were more supportive of their fellow gamers, some of us are having issues with our launch consoles and we are concerned. I hope this not part of a larger problem, I don't wish dropping a decent chunk of change on a long waited for product and then having said product fail before your eyes on anyone. I agree my launch PS3 had a defective Blu Ray disc audio issue, I was praying my PS4 would arrive without issue. It did thank fully.

I let off a huge rant here when I got my Ps4 on the 15th. The PSN was down and I couldn't get my controller connected on the first boot.

I was irritated beyond belief, because I couldn't set my account up. I immediately took to the web and found out PSN was down. I was pissed.

I completely agree with you and hope your issues are fixed as soon as possible. I think it's so laughable that some people really think the majority of this is some ploy by Xbox folks just to slander the PS4. We're far beyond that right now. To say, and some hope, that the X1 has the same failures is just sad. MS really screwed the pooch last launch but I wouldn't bet that'll make the same mistake twice. I don't wish any ill will on other gamers, who cares what we all play. Let's just have fun. I am one of the ones who ordered their PS4 from Amazon and going by reports I am, and have every rational right to be, worried that my console will arrive DOA (I am stationed overseas so it takes about two weeks for shipment). Based on what numbers? There isn't enough evidence to support these claims. My store has sold over 200 ps4's already and we had a whopping 2 come back with issues. In fact our 9 stores combined have sold over 1000 units and not even a dozen have come back. I work at EB games so my basis is off actual numbers, so yeah I would say it's sensationalist BS for hits. So yeah here's a mole hill we'll call Mount BS.

Good for you, you're still an extremely small subsection with even 9 stores. And you work at EB Games bro, many reports are saying it seems to be a larger portion of failures are from Amazon units. Could be many reasons for that. Most likely it's the fact that a large number of people ordered from Amazon so the numbers will be larger for them. Could be all on Amazon in how they packaged the units. Could be the batches that Amazon received came from a factory that put the product together shottily (same as with Sony electronics being produced across multiple factories but appearing to be the same product. Much like TVs, two TVs can be the same model but look totally different depending on where SOny purchased the LCD panels from). So it's quite possible certain retailers are seeing a higher number of failures which doesn't make your experience in your small microcosm fact. It definitely gives me a little more faith that everything should be alright, so thanks, but don't make it out like you're proof positive for all 1,000,000 units with your 9 stores. Please, state your opinion with what you've seen but you don't need to be a pretentious douche to make your point.

Also I will give you another actual fact EB/ Gamestop our small subsection is NOT small, our company have HALF of ALL PS4 units in Canada. We also have more than 10% of Sony units sold.

I don't think we're beyond it. Just reading some of the comments and articles here on N4G should show you that. It's definitely not as widespread as some sites and trolls would like everyone to believe.

But there ARE issues that have popped up, and while it should be expected for ANY device- be it a launch or just throughout its lifetime- it's still unfortunate for those that have to deal with it.

The fortunate thing is that the problems are being dealt with. I don't think it'll take a year and a half for Sony to acknowledge whatever's going on and take measures to prevent and/or rectify the situation.

We can argue that Apple produces top notch consumer electronics products in terms of built quality. However, even their manufacturing isn't without issues. Every iPhone and iPad launches have had problems that ranged from over-heating to scratches on the products...iPhone 4 couldn't make calls unless you hold it in a certain way...

It's impossible to have 100 % non-defect rate. Every manufacturer & every product has had the same issue...

The great thing is that you can fully be refunded and get a new one. I understand it might take a while to get a replacement but you have to understand that every hyped product launch has this type of issues. Supplies are limited so be patient and you will be rewarded.

Considering Sony broke a few records selling the most consoles on launch then anybody I think they came out pretty good. There will always be a bad bunch of consoles as long as Sony is fast with fixing/replacing everything should be ok. Mine has been running well no problems it does get loud at certain points during the game then it goes quiet, which is probably due to the parts of the game that are using the most power and when the game is streaming to the HDD.

The only thing people should be worried about if consoles start failing weeks after having them from the same issue. Unless that happens this is all just scare tactics to the consumers if "journalist" bring up fail rates with no context, facts around them.

Initial products off assembly line are always the most faulty, and considering over 1,000,000 units sold, there is no doubt going to be reports of bricked consoles. 360 and PS3 didn't accumulatively sell 1,000,000 2 weeks after launch, much less 24 hours. Relax people.

Every device will have small bricked numbers BUT no one is more entitled than gamers. Yes, it's annoying but civilised human beings accept small amounts if failure without going baby. The console is not even that hot!! I am surprised at how well ir does despite all the horsepower!!
