Should We Be Concerned About the PS4′s Failure Rate?

CraveOnline: "Now that the PlayStation 4 is here, it seems Sony has released a batch of consoles rocking a critical error.

Consumers across North America have reported, by way of YouTube, Twitter, forums and retailers like Amazon, PlayStation 4s coming in dead on arrival."

cuz no hardware is faulty proof.Wait till next week and it;s gonna be the same with the xbone.

Enemy1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

.02% failure rate is nothing to be concerned about. A lot of these stories are surfacing from the same one or two sources, while others are baseless without evidence.

Xbox 360's failure rate was 50%+

Let's see what they say next week when Xbone launches to the same issues, if not worse.

Stsonic1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

Nice one delete your comment below and post to 1.1 to make sure people see it. I see your game ;)

I don't blame you tho, comment two will never be seen in 30 minutes and 1.100 will be arguing 720P is actually crisper than 1080P

GarrusVakarian1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

I really have had enough of these articles.........

We should ALWAYS be concerned for new hardware launches, always.

Again, im going to balance the article title out....."Should we stop worrying due to the hundreds of thousands playing completely problem-free?"

BX811849d ago

Enemy, you stay with the xbox in your mouth. Give it a break buddy.

abzdine1849d ago

NO

"Yoshida style answer"

krazeecain1849d ago

I'm mostly in agreement with with you, but where do you keep getting that %0.02 figure from? If you made that up you're just making the PlayStation supporters look bad...

krazeecain1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

(Woops, double post)

Wagz221849d ago

Well it sucked for me cause I got a ps4 with the hard drive problem. The hard drive was clicking so it was doa. Luckily I was able to replace mine with another and that works flawlessly. But then I had a customer come in with that hdmi problem so who knows how truly extensive it is. We'll wait and see I guess.

59fifty1848d ago (Edited 1848d ago )

360's failure rate was mostly WITHIN the first 3 years though. so why compare 2-3 years to 2 days?
i had both launch systems and both broke around a year.

Mosiac771848d ago

That's what sony is reporting but they are known for hiding fact in the past.

starchild1848d ago

Where is your proof that the failure rate is .02% ?

We simply don't know what the failure rate is at this point.

shoddy1848d ago

Id a console survive 33% failure rate then ps4 will be fine

sony should hire you

you sure love sony so much

edit
@below

there is a different between appreciating a company
but jumping to its defence every minute like its your mother is just pathetic

its just a piece of electronic device made by a company for profit

GarrusVakarian1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

What's not to love? ;p

If you have great experiences with a companies product you are naturally going to take a liking towards them. Logic, bro.

@bomboclaat

"its just a piece of electronic device made by a company for profit"

Of course, but as a gamer, you of all people should realise how attached we can become to an electronic device and the company that makes it, especially if they give us positive emotions such as joy, excitement, happiness. Chemistry, bro.

bomboclaat_gamer1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

a game brings you happiness?

so youre saying sony gives you positive emotions, excitement and happiness lol

dude, go find a girlfriend

if you are looking for happiness in a video game you have serious social issues

scott1821849d ago

@bomboclaat_gamer

People should also stop reading books, watching movies, listening to music, or having any hobby whatsoever. People should only be happy with what you say is an appropriate way to find happiness, or they have issues. I can think of dictators who had similar logic...

GarrusVakarian1848d ago (Edited 1848d ago )

"if you are looking for happiness in a video game you have serious social issues"

Hang on.....but isn't that the ENTIRE POINT of playing videogames...for happiness? You find a game fun and the fun makes you happy. Or do you purposely try to find games that will make you sad?

I really have to question what you are doing on this website if you don't understand that......

It has a warranty for a full year. I think we're ok. I wish people would stop with these articles. I know it's a good idea to make it well known about problems but these 40+ articles are overkill for the fail % rate.

Mine runs PERFECTLY. As did my launch PS3. Think about it this way: Check out the failure rate VS AMOUNT SOLD. Think about the 1 year FREE warranty, think about the solid fat PS3 vs. the slims (my fat seems to run smoother not to mention the BC) then go buy a damn PS4! You won't regret it if you are a fan of the PS consoles. This is the best one yet.

....I have a feeling we will see the epic return of the PS2 days (best console of all time IMO) through the PS4

Funantic11848d ago

If it were 500,000 malfunctioned PS4s Sony would still say .4%. Sony doesn't do a lot of talking.

"Customers around the World"

Come on it is only released in the united states as of now. Is this supposed to be a joke or is the author really that stupid?

JonnyBigBoss1849d ago

Fixed. You are very particular, aren't you?

Thanks for the great discussion!

Stsonic1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

Particular? It was in the Title! if your going to make a mistake at least put it hidden away in the article ;)

ZombieKiller1849d ago

Actually thats a pretty big thing Boss!

KwietStorm1849d ago

Correcting someone when they say 2+2 does not equal 6, is not being "very particular."

Enemy1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

A lot of the people making these stories up are just desperate that the PS4 would at least have some issues. They want balance. But the truth is that every issue the PS4 has had has been a nonissue. .02% failure rate is honestly so low, you'd have a really hard time finding a dead PS4 of your own. The rest, like lack of MP3 at launch (patch already confirmed) or server overload crashes are normal. Wtf what do we expect at launch, perfection? No one can predict how crowded your servers will be at launch. Even Sony underestimated.

Unlike last gen with 360, where everyone on every forum was reporting red ring all the time, with evidence that it was from different people.

Keep spreading those same sources, guys. I'm sure no one will take notice (lol).

Nujabes_1849d ago

I love how you keep bringing up the Xbox 360 every time as if it would invalidate all the broken PS4's around the world.

Hint: It won't.

starchild1848d ago

Actually I remember it being very similar to what we are seeing here: quite a few reports of failures that eventually turned out to be more widespread.

We simply don't know what the failure rate is at this point. It could be a non-issue or it could be end up being more widespread.

HolyDuck1849d ago

You should always be concerned, not to the point where you spread countless crap about it on the internet but you should always be prepared as it could happen to you, but you're always covered so don't worry about it.

GarrusVakarian1849d ago (Edited 1849d ago )

Wow...i ummm... actually completely agree with you. Well said +bubbs.

KwietStorm1849d ago

HolyCrap, I agreed with HolyDuck. O_O

dboyman1848d ago

That is why I paid the extra $$ for Sony's Protection program so covered for 3 years

xJumpManx1849d ago

My console crashed to that ce-34878-0 on ever game but one on launch day. Thankfully after launch day everything has been perfectly fine with my PS4. I just hope Sony keeps Europe on seperate servers so we do not have to deal with it on their launch day as well.
