PS4 First Impressions | IGN

IGN "At long last, the PS4 has arrived. I've spent the last 36 hours or so with the retail console and the 1.50 firmware and while a comprehensive review is on the way, I wanted to provide some initial thoughts. Here's a quick rundown of my impressions thus far, and some things to look out for."

Forgive me for making sense, but aren't both Colin and Scott equally as biased?

Colin being overly affectionate towards Playstation and Scott being overly affectionate towards the Xbox brand?

Neither of them should be reviewing either console IMO.

The PS guy will like the PS console and the Xbox guy will like the Xbox console. That will be the result.

I think you'll find Colin being one of the few reasonable people on the site. He's not perfect but he's not like the others.

Anyway going by your logic he would of given Killzone Shadow-fall for example a 9 or 10 but he didn't.

Colin said it was the best Killzone in the core series. He likely intended to give it a 9 but higher ups told him to lower it to an 8 so people wouldn't accuse IGN of having an agenda at the start of this gen. An 8 is a safe score. It doesnt piss anyone off.

EDIT: Btw, I'm well aware of how reasonable Colin is. I've watched and enjoyed every single Conversation with Colin on Youtube. As such, Colin being a reasonable person would do what his bosses tell him to do to keep his job.

IGN doesn't benefit from pissing off anyone. I predict Ryse will get a score of 7 or below, but they will balance things out by giving Forza a ridiculously high score.

And that is gaming reviews the last 10 years in a nut shell: don't matter what you say, but politics will give the score.

Remember when we could open a gaming magazine and actually believe what we were reading? About the same time when it wasn't more than half pages filled with ads...

Sadly, Colin gives every game he reviews an 8, same with KZ SF.

Not true. Ni No Kuni, Catherine, and Infamous 2 all got 9s.

Fun fact: Greg was going to be the one to do the Infamous 2 review initially, but realized this couldn't happen because his opinion was compromised as Infamous 1 has a sentimental value to him since it helped him get over his divorce. Colin ended up doing the review.

For the same reasons, Colin shouldnt be reviewing the PS4. Greg and Colin are unquestionably the two biggest PS fanatics at IGN.

Nice it is all sounding good, broken console rumors that turned out to be user error mostly and a couple bad game reviews from MScentric sites, the PS4 is looking to be everything we all imagined it would be, domination awaits.

Can't it simply be a great system geared towards the fans without the high expectations that it has to dominate? I mean seriously, that just sets you up for disappointment if the system just does very well.

I like how it takes like less then 1 second from exiting a game to get back to the ps4 menu screen !

i dont remember reading console reviews last gen, or really caring. PS4 is a freight train 10/10 because Sony is in full force with the most powerful console to date and will be pumping out quality exclusives. even PC games want in, indies want in, gamers want in, third partys know they will get the most out their games. Sony dropped a bomb and Greatness Awaits.

Glad they improved the Speed of the UI. The old UI was slow like hell.

But its funny how they keep emphasizing how snappy it is to go in and out of the game.

PC has been that for quite a along time :) welcome to multitasking.

you can MULTITASK for the longest time when playing steam games. You dont need a powerful machine for that!

One thing about the Wii U that is really useful for anyoe that has a family, roommates etc. is the off TV play on the game pad- the main problem I have w it though is ht elimited bat life for the game pad and the limited range it has (1 large room maybe 2 small rooms)

But it looks like the remote play w the PS4 and Vita has a much better range and Batt life- remote play may not sound like a big deal to some but once you have it (unless you live by yourself or play games in a separate room from others you live with) it will be hard to live w out-

another advantage is you can use the remote screen and the TV screen for 2 separate screens for local multi player (at least for some game on the wii u- I assume it would be same for PS4)

So congrats to the PS4 launch- sounds like an awesome system- IF I had not bought our Wii and Wii U geared towards my young kids I would prob have bought a PS3 and or PS4
