Both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One want to be way more than just your gaming console—they want to be the centerpiece of your home entertainment system. This week, we got our first look at the apps that'll launch with both consoles. Here's how they measure up.

I love my game of thrones and didn't IGN confirm HBO Go on PS4. Besides people, for the most part, will just be gaming for the first couple months.

I sincerely wish they bring EPL / UEFA matches (live/recorded) to PS4 via some app, and when they do that, I hope they bring that to the USA too.

I'd kick my cable TV box out of house if that happens.

MS def has the edge in video apps but allot of them look very US orientated, does anyone know if the likes of HBO etc works in UK

No it doesn't, as won't quite a few of those channels, making the comparison pretty much US only :)

Problem is that every single app on Xbox live is behind the Xbox Live Gold Pay wall ($59.99 a year)

None of PS4's App's are behind a pay wall. You do not need PS plus to use any of them.

To be honest if HBO etc had worked in the UK I would see the fee as totally worth it, its channels we can't get over here

Edit: yeah they did have it. i think there was a vid showing it on the OPSMag preview/review vid they had, later at the end that is. i know i saw both UStream and Twitch as an option when starting a stream

Yea Sony bought out Twitch for a day so that no one had to watch ads (besides 1 PS4 ad at the beginning). They're definitely partners and PS4 should have Twitch.

I find it amusing that people keep on talking about Netflix being behind a paywall on Xbox. If you subscribe to Netflix you're currently streaming it on something, if not an Xbox than PS3 or PC, maybe a Bluray player or on your TV. I think it's really a moot point to mention the paywall. It's not as though somebody is going to buy an Xbox One and use it strictly for streaming and most new tvs and players include the ability to run streaming services.

I use my ps3 for Netflix however a lot of people on here say consoles are for games and they have no interest in apps. I think those people are lying, btw. My point is there are other options and Netflix is behind a paywall this generation on 360 so it's not as though this is new. I really don't think that game consoles will drive netflix subscriptions much higher. Most people in the gaming community who want the service already have it and they're either paying now and also using Live for online gaming or aren't paying on PS4. I really don't think using Netflix is something somebody would subscribe to Live just to do.

The point is that it shouldn't be behind a paywall in the first place.

That's the only point that counts. Not that it's already like that on 360. Not that people won't JUST use their console for streaming Netflix(though some do and will). Not that it's free on other platforms.

You already pay for the Netflix subscription. You should not have to pay for it again.

True, but it still doesn't change the fact that they aren't important in regards to what really matters though. It's the same as when people say "specs are not important" and "resolution and frame rates are not important" which is true in regards to what really matters which is the games.

I guess the whole pay wall thing is for the percentage of Xbox One users that wont have Xbox Live....would love to know what that percentage is, because if your buying COD or BF4, it is to play online, which makes the rest of the paywall conversation pointless...

thanks for the extended prove, ive looked into it now and seems that this list was showing ticks for dedicated apps, which the PS4 wont sadly get at launch but can stream onto twitch inhouse.

Seeing as I play multiplayer games, and have to pay to play multiplayer games, why the hell would I care if most of the Xbox apps are behind a paywall? I'm already paying to play online anyway.

Im missing Youtube at both consoles. I can not understand why Youtube is no Launch-App. Its the only App I used a lot.
