Microsoft Responds to 1080p Boasting War With Forza Motorsport 5

Sony has been advertising the fact that Call of Duty: Ghosts runs at 1080p resolution on PS4 quite a bit, throwing jabs at the competition here and there, and today Microsoft UK fired back by tweeting a picture advertising Forza Motorsport 5.

After seeing a video comparison of the Bernese Alps track in Forza 4 and Forza 5, with the exact same car, it damn well better be 1080p when the graphics themselves have barely been upgraded at all. Put the Xbox 360 and Xbox One games side by side and it's embarrassing how hard it is to tell which version is next gen. Very disappointing.

The problem with the discussion about resolution and frame rates is that it's all relative to the type of game. For example, Wipeout HD for PS3 came out 5 years ago and it can run 1080p at 60fps. Don't believe me, here is a link: http://n4g.com/news/95384/w...

Neither GT5 nor GT6 are capable of 1920x1080 in 60FPS. One is 1280x1080 and drops frames, and the other is 1440x1080, and drops more frames. Try harder.

Forza 5's baked last gen tech is nothing to boast about. How is this game not going to run at 1080p60fps when it is literally using the same technique Ridge Racer uses to do 60fps? Turn 10 never even talks about their tech. Surprise? I think not.

Wake me up when Forza begins using dynamic lighting/real shadow casts, stops using overly shiny cars to blind the masses from seeing their completely static soulless environments, gets day/night transition, and quits using other disgusting last gen tricks like painted motionless clouds to render what people with no standards consider a "beautiful environment."

Microsoft is just getting pathetic now. From releasing 50% weaker hardware, to charging $500 and justifying it with personal-data-collecting Kinect (Microsoft admitted it, deny it now!), to advertising ultra high PC footage of Battlefield 4 as Xbox One footage, to desperately buying Titanfall behind closed doors with EA leaving it as a secret to the developers (which wanted it on PS4), to then using PS4 footage of Watch Dogs and saying it was running on Xbox One. I'm sure I'm missing a lot too.

I find it laughable that xbox fans are holding up Forza 5 as a technical showpiece. It looks marginally better than Forza 4, and it's a racing game. Don't you find it convenient that all the games that do 1080p on X1 are more simplistic ie. racing and basketball. NBA 2k14 doesn't look that good at all.

Gt5 does not run at 1080p. It runs at 1280 X 1080p
1080p is 1980 X 1080p. gt5 as 1/3 less Pixels than 1080p. 900p has more pixels than GT5 did. GT5 did not 'almost' run at 1080p either, 1/3 is WAY less.

How do you explain all the HD upgraded game sets on this gen's systems? They were good enough "GAMES" to be bought twice. I don't game for the pixel count, I never have. Does that mean I still wasn’t to be playing 2600 games? No, but I play games for fun, not for numbers, or the brand on the package. Another example, I liked a few Wii games much more than most of the fodder this gen. Mario Galaxy was much better than FF13 (PS3 version) to me. See even though FF13 had a far superior pixel count I still liked the technically inferior game better, why? It was FUN.
I understand each gen needs to move foward, but spcs arn't everything.

I will say that Forza is my favorite racing franchise by a lot. That said, I'm not going to spend $500 on an Xbox One for only 1 exclusive I find worthy of my time. Also, this doesn't change the fact that the One is technically inferior, or that Forza 5 could be made to look better on the PS4 if such an opportunity were granted. The fact is that racing games aren't all that taxing...Gran Turismo 6 is a PS3 game and it runs in 1080 and looks almost as good as Forza 5 (I just never liked the "feel" of GT games).

Sorry, but neither GT5 nor GT6 are in full 1080P. Neither of them look "almost as good as forza", either. Never mind the fact that Forza 5 is a launch title, and Gran Turismo 6 uses every drop of power from the PS3, and stutters often due to it. Forza 6 and 7 will blow everything out of the water.

And to say that racing games aren't taxing is absolutely silly, seeing as how...they actually are. That's why Forza 4 was in 720P, because that level of detail and physics calculations could not be run at 1080P and 60FPS. Unless, of course, you think that it's easy to model photorealistic cars...

actually there are tracks that you can set the setting to dusk or later in the day. Also the night effects isn't a lack of power, its just the developers didn't put it in.

I believe the developers also said that they may add night racing in a later update. either way it still is a fantastic looking game.

I believe it's 1080p, and your Dead Rising is 720p and 30 fps. Plus demos have shown frame rate issues when using a fast vehicle... Good luck with timed events...

Killzone 3 only had 2 player co-op. And it's (KZ:SF) still 1080p overall, and 60 fps in MP.

P.s. KI is 720, Ryse is 900, BF4 720, and COD is 720. Good thing those weren't sent "back to the lab" or you'd have no launch titles.

You're trolling hard aren't you? Killzone was NEVER announced as having co-op, so how did it get downgraded? Hell, Killzone 1,2,and 3 never had a proper co-op campaign unless you count splitscreen co-op.Which lets be honest how many people used it? I platinumed Killzone 3, and only used the co-op for the 2 trophies. Co-op especially split-screen co-op taxes the visuals in ways that make me glad that they decided to not use it in this game.
Also, Knack has co-op you can watch the co-op on ign right now. It may not be the most ingenous way to have co-op in a game, but it's there nonetheless.To me personally, I'd rather have native 1080p than a locked 60fps for campaign games. In first person shooters 60fps becomes more important in multiplayer, but it's nice to see devs like Guerilla making both 1080p and 60fps in multiplayer a priority.

I love how people compare F5 in any way to Drive Club. They are in different universes when you consider graphics. I wish people wouldn't bring up Drive Club when speaking about that last gen looking F5...
You may as well be comparing a ps4 game to a ps3 game, it doesn't work. Do you know how much of a strain the real time day/night cycles put on the hardware alone? Not considering all the other graphical advantages. Put Forza 5 on the 360 and make a next gen racer for the bone.

Drive Club developers are pushing for 60fps, that's why they delayed. Even the current gameplay at 30fps looks SO much better than Forza 5, and this is coming from a Forza fan, the only game I like on XBOX.

Gran Turismo didn't do 1080p, and most of the models where PS2 quality + it couldn't keep proper 60fps... It can't hold a candle to Forza 4 so I wouldn't even amusingly compare it to Forza 5.
I hope that the fixed the lousy models for GT6. Buying a 60$ game in 2013 where most of the models are from the PS2 will be a real shame

it's not 1080p. It's 1280x1080 which is about half the resolution of proper 1080p.
And I rather have 400+800 ported over, but what GT5 had was 200+800 ported over, and those 200 included something like 50 reskinned Nissan's, so overall that was pretty lame.

GT6 has over 800 games from PS2 era stuffed into it.
Forza 5 has 200 meticulously crafted premium cars that you can not onjly drive from the cockpit, but see in full Forzavista glory.

As for what your friends are doing with their consoles, I fail to understand how that has anything to do with the fact that PS4 has zero 60fps racers currently. Oh are we pulling the ol "doesn't worship SONY so he can't have a PS3 and so let's try make him feel bad by saying Xbox 360 isn't being supported" shtick? I thought this was about racing games at 60fps...

GT6 is on PS3 because PD know they can't get away with porting ps2 cars on to ps4. It's easy to half-ass a game when you aren't creating the bulk of your cars from scratch but rather taking them from a 10 year old game. Add a lil rain and night driving to hide the jaggies, keep people from taking photomode pics with said cars, have no dashboards in over 800 cars and presto.

I guarantee if it had ONE these features, it'd be a stuttering mess. Wipeout and GT5 were 1080 60fps on the PS3. Racing games aren't that demanding on the system.

It was not upscaled 720p either, it was considerably better than that, and we shouldn't forget that GT5 supported 3D. Frame rate was an issue, if GT6 ditches 3D ect then it should chug along quite nicely. The fact that Polyphony and GT6 are nearly able to go toe to toe with Forza 5 explains the strengths of PS3, and the weakness of the Xbone, when you consider what GT6 actually runs as a complete package.

Forza is a great game. It might not do weather or night driving but its got the daytime nailed and that's where I prefer to be.

I owned GT 5 on the ps3 and although it was a stunning game, I just found it too much of a grind. The rolling starts and bumper car physics destroyed the online which is what racing is all about.

Ryse looks better than anything on ps4 and it's upscaled to 1080p from 900p. I played forza at the mall today and it looked pretty good... Super clear and stable fps truly the only game in their launch lineup they should be bragging out ...

Now on the other hand Killer Instinct was nice because it was 60 fps but you can totally tell it is uprezed from 720p... It was reallllllly grainy and the color was very washed out..

Loco cycle looks like a random rushed shovelware game and had several noticeable frame drops throughout the demo.

a Racing Game is not a good demonstration of how good a hardware is. even PS3's GT5 is 1080p 60fps and thats a current gen game. then xbots will say, GT5 graphics sucks ass. look at the previous forza environments and compare it with the new forza 5. the only thing upgraded in forza 5 is the cars and thats it. they just crammed up the polygons in their cars to make it look good. the rest nothing. i won't be surprised if it can run 1080p. because for MS, Racing games are the best benchmark to demo 1080p.

I buy a game console to play games. Yes, I'm disappointed that PS4 does not support mp3 but I bought a video game console to play videos games. I never even used my console to play music, but it feels like I'm getting less. I want the console that offers the better gaming experience and features that support better video gaming, whether that be live streaming of gameplay, in-game chat or a bunch of features I haven't thought of. I don't buy a game console to watch tv...I got Directv. I didn't buy a video game console to listen to CD's...I got a blu/ray/dvd/cd player. I didn't buy a video game console to stream movies...I got a Roku.

I really like the fact that playstation is trying to give their customers a better gaming experience by offering top of the line graphics, cell processing power and creativity instead of cheap tricks like "promising people how they will not lose their jobs or painting their product white to get people to buy their product. After playing PS3 games for awhile, I decided to get an xbox360. I played some of their games like Gears of War and Mass Effect and my reaction was "OMG! This is a joke right?" I'm not a pro gamer or really smart person but I remember thinking how stupid those people who posted all those glowing reviews are must have been? If you ever seen how fast paced alot of the PS3 exclusives were and then played a game like gears of war where it was much slower in terms of all the things happening on screen and the speed of the camera movement.
