Activision UK Boss Believes Wii U Can Be A Success

TSA writes: "In a recent interview with Activision’s UK managing director Roy Stackhouse, which we’ll publish a video of later today, we asked their reasons for supporting what some would consider an unworthy venture, and if they’d be evaluating their stance in the future."

I think it will be, but it's going to take more than a few Mario games to win more people over.

The console is very interesting, but I'm more interested in different titles. I bought it for Monster Hunter, due to being a huge fan of the franchise, so I pretty much buy any platform MH is on just for that game.

After playing it MH, I didn't even turn it on and it's turning into my Wii, where it's just collecting dust until something amazing comes out. I am going to get Bayonetta 2, X and SSB. Might get Super Mario 3D World.

different titles? Personally I have a lot of games on my Wii U that I have played and loved.

Scribblenauts Unlimited, Lego City, Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker, Rayman, Need for Speed, not to mention a boat load of indie titles like Trine 2, Nano Assault Neo, Puddle, Mighty Switch Force 1 & 2, Ducktales, etc

And several VC games (Earthbound alone is worth it)..

To each their own I guess, but personally I don't have enough time to play all these games.

Scribblenauts is on 3DS and PC.
Lego City is on PC.
W101 and Pikmin are only on Wii U.
Wind Waker is a remake.
Rayman was delayed and sold on multiple platforms.
NFS is on multiple platforms.
Trine 2 is on multiple platforms.
Puddle is on multiple platforms.
MSF1&2 are also on 3DS.
Ducktales is on multiple platforms and is a remake.

The VC is a good idea, but you have to pay extra just to use it on your Gamepad.

I'm not trying to say the Wii U is a bad console, but at the moment, there isn't a lot going for it.

I wouldn't go out and spend £200+ to play W101, Wind Waker, a few indie titles, remakes and 10 - 20+ year old games.

I know I bought it for Monster Hunter, but I'm a sucker for that franchise, if MH were on another console, I would buy it just for Monster Hunter. If it wasn't for MH, I wouldn't own a Wii U. To be honest, I regret buying one this early.

just because a game is on another platform, doesn't mean it is any less of a great game, especially if you haven't played it.

And Mighty Switch Force is not the same game on Wii U and 3DS. I own all 3 and while they share the same ideas and gameplay, they still have different levels, etc.

PC is a different experience, because I could argue there's no point in getting any games if they release on PC because PC will always be the best version.

Wind Waker, while a remake, is still an amazing game. Most people that have played the Gamecube version were extremely excited for the HD remake, I know I was.

Rayman was voted as being the best experience on the Wii U since it was designed for that console originally.

But if you don't feel that the console is worth it to you, then by all means, save your money. I purchased it day one because I love the Nintendo 1st party games. Anything else was a bonus.

I love my WiiU. I've every game I can for it. Splinter Cell, Black Flag, Sonic, Pikmin3, W101 you name it. I havent had a bad thing to say about it. The off-tv play alone is worth the price of admission. Its truly a godsend.

Nintendo has cash reserves to last through several hardware luanches and failures if they needed to go that route. But, I have faith in these guys. They are after all Nintendo not some smucks.

JuleyJules1859d ago

There are lots of games coming to Wii U now and the exclusives are going to be loads of fun like Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Brothers to go along with other exclusives like WW HD, Lego City (only on Wii U NOT PC), Pikmin 3 etc.

Having the system backwards compatible opens up gamers to tons of games they might have missed or love playing still.

The VC does need to get going to add lots of new titles more quickly. Releases are far too slow.

If you like bayonetta get the wonderful 101, same director and developer. Also try pikmin 3

IPLAY21859d ago

Have you played all of those games? Lego City, Trine 2..NFS, WWHD, Ray man, Nano Asssault, as side from WWHD, The Wii U versions of the multi-platform, are better on Wii U, so if yours is collecting dust that's your fault.

MilkMan1859d ago

Oops someone at Activision is going to get fired and this page is going to get burned.
N4G don't like positive WiiU talk....I'm outta here.

Neonridr1859d ago

well it is coming from the UK.

The British and Canadian folk are always so polite..

tigertron1859d ago

As a Brit I will disagree about us British being always polite. We really aren't. Well, I am. :P

Neonridr1859d ago

I mean Nintendo have been in the business and Basically started the business of gaming and have endured ups and downs. History shows they always come threw, I'f you guys need reassurance from random articles or from devs/companies, stop following the media and think on your own. For every one negative article there are 5 people who believe it. Stupid is as stupid does, open your eyes people, you can't rush everything.

IPLAY21859d ago (Edited 1859d ago )

I love Nintendo, but they did not even come close to starting the gaming industry, Atari and colecovision were really big first. Nintendo and Sega saved gaming. I am just saying :)
Pong was the first on TV game I ever played.

History is written by the winners not the dead lol but I get what you mean. I started with the Nes They were the savoir of being anti social lol

hollabox1859d ago

Come on now Activision, you guys are like UBISoft! Pledging support but slowly killing the system with poor ports and marketing. Call of Duty Ghost 880X720P on the Wii U? If the system is 25 more powerful than current gen and over 50 percent more usable ram at least give Wii U owners a full 1280X720.

Neonridr1859d ago

totally agree, the Wii U version should have been native 720p.

hollabox1859d ago (Edited 1859d ago )

Yeah going to use a PS3 fanboy term and say lazy developers. I know Activision is not doing this on purpose but you would expect them to put a little more effort into Wii U ports. Maybe Nintendo should have went with AMD X86/64 CPUs as well, atleast the Wii U would get Next Gen code and not code based off current gen RISC chips found in PS3,X360 and the Wii U.

XisThatKid1859d ago (Edited 1859d ago )

True Activision also thought that not putting crash In PSAS was a good Idea too.

Oh and I do think it CAN be a success. But Ninty isn't selling 9 million of these by next spring or so.
