Why Upscaling Isn’t That Big of an Issue

6aming's Ryan gives his opinion on upscaling, specifically in the new Call of Duty: Ghosts, coming to PS4 and Xbox One later this month.

The story is too old to be commented.

Just let it go already. Native > upscale. So what If your $500 console can't achieve the same native resolution of the cheaper PS4. Upscaling is nothing more than stretching an image to fill in the blank.

it's too funny...

native is better than upscaled but in the end neither matters to most gamers cos trust me as long as it looks good and plays good on any hd tv it wont be an issue with most gamers world wide.

Not the upscaling itself, but what that means for a given system. That matters to everybody. Cuz no one wants to spend their money in something that's far weaker than the competition, least of all the average gamer.

2,000,000 pixels > 900,000 pixels end of story. Also, big screen 1080p Tv's are pretty inexpensive these days. I want game sites to stop making light of Microsofts stupid decisions. We already had 1080p upscaled last gen. It is time for us to move on to native and Sony has provided a console for us to do so, Microsoft has not.

Upscaling better with kinect

I agree with you guys above. Native is always going to be better than upscaled. When games are upscaled, you get that blurring effect due to the extension of pixels. Each pixel is stretched, to achieve the upscale... Which not only blurs the image, but softens the overall sharpness. The image never looks 1080p, it ends up looking like a stretched 480p, by the time the upscale is done.
Case in point, it is always easy to tell which HD television stations are running in 720P and which are running in 1080P. The ones running at 720p lose sharpness, brightness, color depth and overall picture quality. It looks terrible compared to a real 1080p image.
