A frank discussion on why I'm waiting out the next generation console launches.

Im ready for the next-gen of consoles and have been for some time now. I get hyped up every time a new gen begins.

Technically, a guy who has a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Wii, 3DS, Vita, and yes, a tablet, is telling you to wait.

These reason are true for any new platform. But it's definitely the wrong reason to wait. The more people who jump on board early, the sooner devs get to work on that platform. They go where the money is.

I'm glad you're ready for the next generation of consoles, but I think you're going to find they're not ready for you, yet. Just like the Wii U, they're being rushed out of the gate to capitalize on holiday sales, and it's going to be a long time before there's any good reason to buy one other than it's what Sony or Microsoft want you to do.

You must realize that at least 90% of the commenters here mostly game on CONSOLES. If not mainly gaming on PC and some console games. These guys are hard core gamers.

From your comments I would say you are more casual to soft core. Meaning you just need something to kill the time you don't have to have the full experience. I have Ipads and cell phones around me all the time and I have zero interest in gaming on them. I have toyed with them to see what it was like, but it is by no means the same experience of using an actual console. With the money you spent I could get a PS4 and an X1

I am looking to grab a surface pro at some point. But I have no interest in playing AAA games on that either.

Well the PS4 has been in development since 2008. I wouldn't call almost six years of development "rushed out". Also a good reason to own a console differs from person to person. For me Killzone, Knack, Watch Dogs, The Witcher 3, Outlast, Infamous, Destiny, The Witness, Shadow of the Beast, Rime, The Order: 1886, Mirror's Edge, Metal Gear Solid V, DriveClub and Contrast are a couple of good reasons to own a PS4. Others might be interessted in BF4, CoD or AC4 and other games.

Bigpappy. I've got everything under the sun in my entertainment center, from a Wii U to a PS3 to a Sharp Twin Famicom, and everything in between. I'm going to go out on a limb here and state that I'm probably a more dedicated gamer than 90% of this site's readers. But you're missing the point, like so many other commenters. I'm not arguing the iPad versus PS4/Xbox One - I'm arguing for buying the platform that has games you want to play.

And by the way, if you'd played XCOM on an iPad, you'd be eating your words. It's a superior experience in every way.

I_am_batman right! those are all good reasons to own a PS4. But how many of them are coming out this year, and is it worth the investment?

I've been saying this for a while - people are getting hyped up about PS4 and Xbox1, and they will find the SAME PROBLEM as the Wii U - lack of AAA titles. Happens every time.

Worse, this generation may end up competing with a Steam Box.

In about 6 months, hardcore games who purchased those systems are going to start whining about lack of software.

@nusilver: Most of the games I've listed are expected to launch within the first year of the playstation 4 life cycle.

Couldn't agree with the author more. With the launches of these machines/software getting messier by the day, I'm glad I gave my PS4 preorder to a friend.

That`s how console launches go. Actually the PS4 and Xbone have better launch lineups than consoles in past.

I would never spend 900 bucks on a tablet, but to each what they like :)

Well I'm gettin next gen weather it flops or not because in year or so there gonna stop doing games for ps3 n xbox just like current gens. Ya right now xb1 720p but it's slight step up n ps4 got lot better . Game world is here . Dam tablet who u playing connect dots with lol

He did say he's playing console-quality games on his tablet. You can play XCOM: Enemy Unknown (Giant Bomb's GOTY) and The Walking Dead (a LOT of other sites' GOTY) right now on iPad, and they play as well as they do on console. :)

I'm sorry to say that they will never be as good as a consoles experience! The lack of a controller in my hand just kills the experience.

They had andriod controllers (Moga, etc) and support for console controllers for several years now. How do u not know that?

Unfortunately for me I can't play next Gen let alone current Gen motion sicknesses in all , but for some odd reason I can play 3d games on vita and 3ds, and plus the one and only game I want is kh3. So you guys enjoy next Gen god I wish I could

Maybe it's the size of the screen? Anyway wait until the Vita is able to stream next gen games, maybe the smaller screen may help. You mind if I ask what size TV you normally game on?

Actually, I have a good gaming PC and I don't plan to buy a PS4 or XB1 at launch. There simply aren't enough games to warrant it.

One or two exclusives that I find appealing isn't enough to make it worth me spending $400 or $500 right now.

I'm already playing Battlefield 4 and it looks better than the PS4 or XB1 versions, not to mention you guys have to wait to play it.

Thats funny, because most all games come to consoles first! GTA5 ring a bell? Talk about waiting!! I could care less about Battlefied 4, as im not into those kind of mindless games. There will be plenty of games coming out on both consoles that PC people simply wont be able to play unless you have a console. You want games, you buy a console. PCs were never meant for gaming in the first place!!!

Just looked at some screenshot comparisons of B4 and it looks just as good if not better on the PS4!!! Also i find it funny you think a game looks better on the PC, when it hasnt even been released yet on the consoles! Another week and a half, yea but we console gamers have so long to wait, right? Get off it already man. You already lost the battle.

If you've ever been in to gaming on PC's you would actually be less interested in consoles, all i use is a Vita and 3DS other than my PC.

And some people buy 2 consoles, i'd rather spend that cost on building a new PC or upgrading it. We get practically every multiplat game the consoles get, better fps, cheaper games and no subscription costs.

Honestly, before anyone else comes here to comment on the iPad/console debate, I'd suggest you read the actual article. That's not what I was discussing, at all. I simply asked: what makes the new systems next-gen to you, and why are you buying into them?
