I need a tech head to explain to me why this is a good/bad thing. There's a bubble in it for you!

GribbleGrunger3918d ago

It's basically just far more efficient. That's it really, but it won't be needed much because most games will be in native 1080p. They'll probably use it to upscale to 4K when the 4KTVs become more popular, but it won't matter because everyone knows an upscaled 4K image is better than a native 4K image ...

GarrusVakarian3918d ago (Edited 3918d ago )

Thanks Grib, have a bubble on me.

Didn't notice the sarcasm at the end lol, nice touch.

windblowsagain3918d ago

Nice bit of sarc at the end.:)

Upscaled vs Native,lol.

GribbleGrunger3918d ago

I wasn't being sarcastic at all! All you need to do is turn the contrast up on the TV ...

sAVAge_bEaST3918d ago (Edited 3918d ago )

^^^ I see what you did there, (;
-don't forget the sharpness, with that contrast.

scott1823918d ago (Edited 3918d ago )

Damn dude, you're on fire! My TV has some great contrast options, I will have the best graphics ever!

kazuma9993918d ago

Too bad a 4k tv right now is basically a good car XD

jmc88883918d ago

Also an interesting note is that both the PS4 and the XBox One have the SAME SCALER.

It's ATI's.

svoulis3918d ago

How about Jaggies, how does one get rid of those.

I get the upscaling to fit the screen, and the contrast to hide the uglies, but how do you get rid of them jaggies ENLIGHTEN ME PLEASE!

GribbleGrunger3918d ago (Edited 3918d ago )

That's easy. Just sit further back from your TV. I find sitting on the porch and playing through a window is the optimum distance. That's what TV remotes were invented for ... Don't you know anything about technology?

JackISbacK3918d ago

so it means that cod upscaled graphics on xbox one will look better than ps4 cod native graphics is that what you are trying to say, fist of all look out what you are are saying, play afair game.fanboy!,games will look amazing and similar on both consoles ,and it does not matter to us that how they reach to that level, buy putting better harware or buy putting an upscaling engiene.

KentBlake3918d ago

You're on a roll, Gribble!

Have a bubble!

GribbleGrunger3918d ago (Edited 3918d ago )

And you have one back, Sir :)

... and you have one too JackISbacK. It's just playful fun.

Magicite3917d ago

@GribbleGrunger - Nice, one sir :)

kidhero993917d ago

The current cutting-edge for image clarity is 4K. For the first time, this makes individual pixels unperceivable at many common screen sizes and viewing distances — giving the viewer a whole new level of realism. However, since content is still catching up with these advances, manufacturers have begun to equip standard 1080P players with 4K upscaling capabilities. While this is definitely an improvement over imagery that has not been upscaled, it still does not compare to true 4K resolution. Just as with DVD players that upscaled their content to 1080P, upscaling noticeably reduces the appearance of blockiness and jagged edges, but falls short when it comes to depicting more detail:

shadyiswin3917d ago

Except the ps4 doesn't support 4k...

darren_poolies3917d ago

Turn your sharpness down to zero, should help a bit ;)

morganfell3917d ago

"Too bad a 4k tv right now is basically a good car XD"

Where are you shopping? They have already dropped below the 5K mark.

blumatt3917d ago (Edited 3917d ago )

You know. 4k tv's are actually not as expensive as people act. $4000 for a 55-60" right now. And that's a samsung. Give it a year and that will be $2500 or so. And let Vizio drop a 4ktv and it's likely to be around $1999 or so next year.

The prices of 4ktvs are coming down much faster than HDTV's did. And a lot of that is due to the fact that the tech is relatively the same, but with more pixels. It's still LCD/LED.

I'll have one next year or the next.

@Morganfell. Agreed man.

GrandTheftZamboni3917d ago

GribbleGrunger for President!

Crystallis3917d ago

Dang Gribble, you are on FIRE! You deserve a bubble.

3-4-53917d ago

So basically 7-8 years from now when we get a 4k game they can scale up to show us what the then "next"gen will like. That gen being the PS5 gen.

fenome3917d ago

well-played sir

@anybody who thinks 4k tvs are still like $30k

Fry's electronics has Sony Bravia 4k tvs on sale right now for anywhere between $3,500 and $6,500 depending on what screen-size you want.

The PS4 supports 4k video, just not gaming. Here's a link for you as well..

mistertwoturbo3917d ago

I agree with Gribble.

Pretty soon developers can start making games in 260p and upscale it to 4K. That way the you can max out the details. It will definitely be sharper because of the magic of upscaling.
