At a Financial Briefing, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata mentions that Nintendo hasn't established the Wii U as a legitimate heir to the Wii
all i ever hear is this guy admitting his failings. why doesnt he just resign. this isnt the nintendo i know, and frankly, this isnt the nintendo i like. he gots to go
"why doesnt he just resign." Because he's the man who made the Wii, DS and 3DS huge successes? One poorly selling console is not enough to ruin his resume. Not by a long shot. This man may have lost Nintendo some millions, but he has made Nintendo billions. THAT'S why he is still working at that company.
'' he's the man who made the Wii, DS and 3DS huge successes'' huge successes at the expense of quality. ''One poorly selling console is not enough to ruin his resume. '' it is if that poorly selling console is losing the company millions and damaging the companies image. nintendo are the laughing stock of the industry right now.
"huge successes at the expense of quality." Never owned a DS, but the Wii and 3DS have tons of quality games.
At the expense of quality? A compete lie The reason for Nintendo's success is quality. Their hardware always has the lowest cost, the lowest failure rate and is the most user friendly. Their games always always unique and high quality. That is why people like Mario, Zelda and so on. They are names people associate with quality. The Wii U has not failed by a long shot, it has just had poor start. The Wii U not living up to the Wii's success doesn't mean much because no console has lived up to the Wii's success. If Nintendo didn't stop supporting it in 2011 it probably would have continued to sell huge amounts and pass the PS2 in total consoles sold. Lack of compelling games and poor marketing are the only problems with the Wii U, not the console itself. That won't be the case forever. Its selling on par with the PS3 and 360 right now. If Nintendo can keep a steady stream of software into next year and market it better, then it will dominate the next gen like the Wii before.
At the expense of quality? A compete lie. The reason for Nintendo's success is quality. '' they used to be at the cutting edge. their games used to be right at the forefront of creativity and innovation. nintendo used to be synonymous with quality. those days have gone. and in its place are half-hearted, empty, cheap hardware/software trying to pass themselves off as the quality products we usually associate with nintendo. nintendo used to be market leaders, now they are taking the back seat. using old technology and pairing it with a gimmick to try to make it appear new, scaling down all their games etc. quality is going down.
yea . you should go apply (:
"it is if that poorly selling console is losing the company millions and damaging the companies image." So you would agree then that Kazuo Hirai should be fired too because he lost Sony $4.7 billion in PS3 sales? Or how about the Vita flop? But when Nintendo loses a few million over one console under Iwata he should be fired right? "nintendo are the laughing stock of the industry right now." Yes let's just forget the fact that the 3DS is best selling system worldwide in 2013. You fanboys are hilarious.
Could you be any more delusional? "cheap hardware/software trying to pass themselves off as the quality products we usually associate with nintendo." When was the last time you heard of a Nintendo product being faulty? I've had a NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii and now Wii U and not one of them have had a hardware fault. Heck I still have the original Gameboy from 1989 and it still works like a charm. But I've been through three 360's, two PS2's and two PS3's. So much for "cheap hardware/software" huh?
''When was the last time you heard of a Nintendo product being faulty? I've had a NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii and now Wii U and not one of them have had a hardware fault.'' i distinctly remember having to blow inside the NES to make it work. maybe give it a slap once or twice too. also, blowing the cartridges too. ''So much for "cheap hardware/software" huh?'' yes, they use old tech. ''So you would agree then that Kazuo Hirai should be fired too because he lost Sony $4.7 billion in PS3 sales? Or how about the Vita flop?'' of course.
"at the expense of quality" That's completely subjective and your opinion. I think the Wii U is a quality console with some quality games. It isn't perfect but it certainly isn't as bad as a solid majority of the users who comment on this site would try to have me believe. Oh, and do read my latest blog before you throw the ever original fanboy card at me.
''That's completely subjective and your opinion.'' its a fact, a fact acknowledged by the vast majority of the gaming public who have chosen NOT to buy a wiiu. if there is any quality, its too limited in quantity to be worthwhile purchasing a wiiu. again, this is not my opinion, but a fact proven by sales. or rather, lack of sales. nintendo chose to cut quality, scope and integrity of its products, for maximum profit. ie why spend a fortune researching innovative, advanced tech, when they can just scavenge old tech off the market. as they did with wii and wiiu. why spend a fortune making ambitious, innovative and technically advanced games, when they can make mini-game collections and gimped versions of all our once favorite games. as they do.
@thepcz "its a fact, a fact acknowledged by the vast majority of the gaming public who have chosen NOT to buy a wiiu." Get over yourself. It's an opinion. Period. Just because the majority supports an opinion doesn't suddenly make it an objective fact. By your idiotic logic, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was a terrible movie because it failed at the box office, yet all of the reviews were extremely positive. So no, your logic is terrible and you are wrong. It is an opinion and that is all it ever will be.
Wii U have a multitude of first party exclusives to play off of and an almost endless supply of fan loyalty. They're going to be just fine,Wii U not going anywhere.
Sure the man who turned Nintendo into massive profit making company after GC and GBA. Has to go. How about you run a company see if you survive.
@Thepcz where do you get your info from. I don't get people sometimes you b day Nintendo is the laughinh stock of the industry, how do you know this. When the ps3 never lived up to the potntial it wad suppose to, the ps2 was selling more than it was, for awhile, to the point it had to be discontinued. Then you have Microsoft and the red ring of death wow this feels decades ago but it the same system that been out for literally forever, And honestly the only first party game I know they have is Halo and gears of War other than that it v stops there. Those are reasons for a company to be laughing stocks, it just that people don't know what the wiiU which is Nintendo biggest fault this gen. People don't know it back wards compatible which seems important to advertise since the wii is still selling. It has been advertised terribly but even though it has faults eventually it will pick up and sales are gonna sky rocket, it's starting now and and to admit it hasent lived up to expectations isn't a bad thing at least he isn't disillusioned like other companies
I'm having way more fun with the wiiU than i ever had with the wii... maybe people who just point and laugh should jump in and actually try owning one and playing some of the incredible first party titles instead of just going COD-BF4-Madden-NBA2k... There's a world out there past FPS's and Sports titles.
Man, I like the Wii U as well, but saying that Call of Duty and Madden are the only third-party games out on the video game market right now is just being delusional.
i'm not saying that, and i'm not delusional but there's a whole lot of "Gamers" out there that only play those games, and can't see past FPS and Sports titles.... There's a whole other world that's not Grey and brown.
What if the WiiU came out this year?
It would've been even worse. Its launch wouldn't have been as prominent as that of the PS4 or Xbox One, and even less people would've known about it. At least it had a bit of publicity (albeit a little) in the first year alone. If three consoles were being released this year, the Wii U would've been overshadowed in an instant. Also, considering that we still don't have those big games like Bayonetta 2, Metroid or Smash Bros., it wouldn't have made much difference anyway.
I suppose. I get the feeling however that one of the reasons the PS3 did "poorly" at launch was because the Wii released at the same time and much cheaper?
I blame Nintendo for the Wii U's poor sales. The marketing for the console is next to none. I have seen more on regular media(not on game sites) about PS4 and XboxOne in the past two months than I have seen of the Wii U in the past year. That is just stupidity on Nintendo's part. The Wii U is a fantastic system and very underrated console, and frankly a year later far too many people don't even know it is out or a new console. I have E-mailed Nintendo and they always respond, but do nothing to fix the problems I point out. There are a ton of great games on Wii U now so that is not the issue. Once the Wii U had a library of games that were note worthy a few months ago,a marketing blitz should have been put into place. Instead nothing was done. Remember when the Wii came out? Every time we turned the TV on there was a Wii add!
Nintendo is not the only one at fault here, trust me, but I'm shocked that Wii U advertising has been so rare. I don't think I've seen a single commercial for the console itself and I've only seen a few for games, specifically ZombiU and the occasional Wind Waker HD.
Just imagine what would have been.... if Nintendo released this console in 2011 instead of 2012. Nintendo gatecrashed the party too late imho.
then no games would be available
Make a 3DS adapter for the WiiU; figure out a way to upscale the output resolution so it looks ok on a big TV. BOOM, millions of sales.
Nintendo will bounce back as soon as their big titles come out. I would be surprised if the the Wii u wasn't able to sell between 10-15 million after the release of super Mario 3d world, super smash bros u, Mario kart 8, Zelda u, Bayonetta 2, & X. after that i think Nintendo should seriously start thinking about buying 2nd party studio's for the sole purpose of creating games that Nintendo is known for creating. they should buy 1,or 2 western studio's for fps, and maybe try to get valhalla games & grasshopper manufacture to go 2nd party. as far as ELECTRONIC ARTS is concerned, I think the next time the NFL license is up for grabs Nintendo should just out bid EA, and set up some kind of partnership with 2k games, and maybe then will be able to get a GTA game on a nintnedo console.
i bet their double/triple thinkin not changing the name right about now.
i love nintnedo, but it should have been called wii 2 if they really wanted to stick to the wii brand. i remember watching e3 when reggie explained the name and it's meaning, but i still just barely get it even now.
To be honest i don't want to witness the death of a Nintendo console. But there are lessons to be learned from the Wii U's situation so....
Very easy solution: Make an Nintendo-themed Android tablet with buttons, has Wii mode too. That would print money.
So what is he doing about it? There's no way they're going to reach their 9 million fiscal year target unless there's something up their sleeve. And if there was, it would have been announced by now. C'mon Iwata! Stop being such a tightarse and spend some of those Wii billions on new games!
This is a terrible year for the Wii U
