The day Sony gave free lifetime Playstation+ membership to thousands of users… by mistake

As you may or may not know, Playstation Plus arrived in Brazil a few days ago. And it appears Sony have been really nice to its Brazilian users, “selling” the PS+ 1 year membership for free.

The "offer" was not mentioned anywhere officially, and people were able to stack it. It was technically possible to get dozens of years of PS+ membership for free by getting the offer several times in a row.

The article describes the full process used by people to get free lifetime PS+ membership (valid on the Vita, PS3, and PS4), although the vulnerability is now closed

The story is too old to be commented.

Can we get a free 1year of ps plus?

Soldierone1909d ago (Edited 1909d ago )

No, but we can have an old arcade game instead! :P lol

(I'm only kidding, so dont get offended)

HelpfulGamer1909d ago (Edited 1909d ago )

Thank you Sony for the free PS+ !

As much as I would like this, Brazil really deserves it.

They are having to pay multiple thousands of dollars for a PS4 because of their countries taxes. It's nice to see Sony treating them well even though the price issue isn't actually caused by Sony.

xKugo1909d ago (Edited 1909d ago )

Nope but they obviously can.
Though to be honest, they really deserve it. The price they have to pay for their PS4 is ridiculous; it actually stings me when I think about them still having to purchase games, accessories and PS+.Quite ridiculous, really.

LakerGamerEnthusiast1909d ago

Hmmm you could make the assumption someone got fired that night. lmao

Unless Sony can easily remove the extra memberships,(I'm Sure they can)then you have to bet they are steaming hot at the amount of money they have lost from this incident. Funny tho.

elnacho1909d ago

Interesting point. Do they lose money by giving away PS+ membership? It is possible they do have to pay the developers of PS+ games on a "per download" basis, in which case yes, they probably lost money.

But if that's not the case, and (assume) there was a flat fee paid for each of the PS+ games by Sony to the devs, then they did not technically "lose" money, it is unlikely that many people who used the trick would have actually subscribed to PS+ in the first place...

teflontactics1909d ago

Games put on PlayStation Plus for "free" are done so through a buy-out of sorts, Sony doesn't pay any money per download to the publisher/developer.

TheFutureIsBlue1909d ago

Yeah, this kind of sucks if a lot of people exploited it. Sony was hoping they were going to make profit from PS+ since they are taking a lost from the console sells.

ion531909d ago

That just makes you look poor... You should pay for it... No offence

Bladesfist1909d ago

What? I am not sure if you are trolling. You are poor if you get something for free?

Have you seen the price of the PS4 in Brazil?

ion531909d ago

No. Once, yes fair enough, that's fine. But if you look, and find a glitch that allows you to get infinite amount of free PS+ then that's bad.

Lykon1909d ago

It's naughty but it's pleasant . and it goes to show that Brazilians aren't as stupid or third world as we think they are. Good luck to them. To be honest though . what's the point in downloading it 30 times because in 30 years PS + probably won't even exist any-more. I think 5 times will be plenty. But you know , just the original once would have been fine. And it was nice of sony.

ion531909d ago

It was the fact ANYONE could make a Brazillian account and exploit this to get 9999 years of PS+

MegaRay1909d ago

True, poor bastards... so cough.... how can I do that glitch again?

Lykon1909d ago

sad init . poor bastards . even if they buy a ps4 there is probably no where to plug it in ... its all coconuts , drugs and rent boys over there init

MegaRay1908d ago

Rent boys? Never heard of it but it sound disgusting nevertheless

takohma1909d ago

that's pretty cool. I wonder if my guilt would eat away at me if I did that, lol. I would be good for about 5 years or so.

bjmartynhak1908d ago

I should have used it immediately after seeing the trick. But no: "finally PS Plus on my country, let's support it". Fool.

Two days later: credit cards not being accepted* and there are no PSN cards. Sony BR really sucks. The whole positive image Sony/Playstation built worldwide is falling apart in Brazil.

* Sony BR shows the price in R$, but charges in $, lots of banks are not accepting it anymore. Either is brazilian R$ or plain and simple USD, not "something in between" (see don't even make sense)

Hicken1908d ago

To be honest, I can't quite make sense of your comment, either.

bjmartynhak1908d ago

Since September most of the banks in Brazil stopped accepting the payment form PSN uses. There is something to do in showing the price in brazilian R$, but charging in USD.

Worst, there are no PSN cards.

In summary, most people can't buy stuff from PSN BR
