The Government and Games: Funding the Controversy

WB Games Montreal has just struck a deal with the Quebec government. The rookie developer has been offered 63 million dollars over five years in the hopes of creating 100 new jobs. The Quebec goverment has also shown interest in providing funds to Ubisoft Montreal to try to create 500 jobs in the industry. While this is great news for those companies, respectively, we have to ask: Why would governments risk taxpayer money on the gaming industry?
