Fans are hard-up for more Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded

Replay Games finally gave into the fan frenzy and agreed to put Larry in their hands with a boxed version.

Earlier this year, Replay released the game online to great acclaim, but for some reason, adventure game lovers can’t really enjoy a game unless they’re holding a cardboard box.

A boxed copy is really cool, but i think it has something to do with Larry's legacy, rather than any other particular reason. Remember that this was released for the PC-XT on 5.25" and 3.5" disks with manuals and everything. And like the smell of a new book, there's something quite... titillating about opening a game in a cardboard box.

Seriously, even something like GTA5 didnt have anything particular in it's DVD cover, just a map, a basic manual with controls, and an extra activation code, and its one of the biggest games to come out this year. Gone are the days of getting an awesome manual, with some background story /lore along with instructions and some extras. IIRC, the last game that did that was the boxed copy of Guild Wars 1. While awesome, it missed something from the days of games such as the Larry series, or anything from the Sierra stables in that timeframe.

Even looking at the kickstarter video, Al Lowe points out that Sierra sold more hintbooks than actual copies of the game, so it is indicative of the level of piracy in the original game, but also shows an interesting model of making money off a title in an alternate and intersesting way.

Point is, if there is a boxed copy, I'll take it!

I am a huge fan of Leisure Suit Larry, one of the coolest cats out there.

Who is "we"? I'll correct it this time, but in the future, when using first person pronouns in the description, make sure we know who is speaking.

How Adventure Games Fare on Kickstarter

Serena Nelson writes: "Here's the thing. Despite there being so many adventure game projects, they're still a small part of crowdfunding games as a whole. It's also an incredibly niche genre compared to shooters and RPGs. Which means that unless you're asking for a fraction of what you really need chances are good that you'll end up not making it. Outside of titles like Broken Age, Dreamfall Chapters and Obduction, none have breached seven digits."

Kickstarter Videogame Reward Tiers That Make Us Salivate

Serena Nelson writes: "Kickstarter is well-known for being a platform to get ideas funded by fans and without the need to have a publisher breathing down their collective necks. And while it should be enough to give from the kindness of one's own heart there still needs to be a carrot dangling from the stick to make backers reach deep into their wallets. And that's where the reward tiers come into play."
