Hands-on with PlayStation 4 titles Driveclub, Knack and More [Capsule Computers]

Zac Elawar from Capsule Computers wrote:

"Sony was generous enough to invite members of the press over to their EB Games Expo 2013 booth the night before the first official day of the show to get some hands-on time with their slate of titles across all platforms ahead of the 40,000-odd expected crowd. Of particular note, we played multiple major PlayStation 4 release titles and have some impressions to share."

Doesn't seem like he thinks Drive club would be the Forza Killer many here were hoping for. But it does have unique social features.

ABeastNamedTariq4269d ago

He didn't mention or compare it to Forza at all though -- just saying. He said he likes "dynamic content" (whatever that means) in his racing games, and that if/since DC doesn't/won't have it, it might not hold his interest.

Unless I'm missing something and being a silly head. If that's the case, I'll shut up.

ZacE4269d ago

You're right. It's hard to define dynamic content... basically, what that could mean, is different modes if you want to put it simply. Career, Car Games, Autovista is a cool feature if we're talking Forza. I just don't know what Driveclub has in that regard.

militissanctus4269d ago

I've never been a huge fan of racing games, but since I plan to get PS Plus, I'll definitely be giving it a try.

GameNameFame4269d ago

@BigPappy. He says nothing of sort.

All he said was he liked it. Had few bugs but assuming it will be fixed.

You are just stating your xbox fanboy's insecure fear of DC becoming Forza killer.

I personally do not care. They seem different type of a game.

Dmagic4269d ago

forza killer? you mean gt killer right? forza is not the top dog.

Sitdown4269d ago

Yeah because Sony is looking for a game that kills there top racing game... and it makes even more sense since GT is not a launch game.

PS: There is a nice little chunk of sarcasm in there, be careful not to miss any of it.

Dmagic4269d ago

@sitdown you missed my whole point forza is nothing to kill.

abusador4269d ago

He probably graded kinect an A like you did but we call know how that turned out.

Your comments are beyond corny Lol And DC will own. You do also know that this is the same old build from months ago right? Let's talk upon releade , I'll be sure to msg u :)

Most previewers also say it is the, ostbfun out of all the next gen racers.

ZacE4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

Fanboy Alert! Fanboy Alert!

militissanctus4269d ago

I've been on the verge of preordering Knack along with my Watch_Dogs bundle. Now I KNOW I'm preordering Knack! Thanks!

ZacE4269d ago

It's like a lighter, PG God of War... lol

militissanctus4269d ago

Hey, I like GoW's mechanics, but not some of the mature content, so it should be right up my alley :)

hulk_bash19874269d ago

Yup I'm still excited as all hell for Nov. 15th.

XtraTrstrL4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

I wonder when Sony will mention more about OpenStack, their scalable cloud computing answer to Microsoft's Azure servers. It was talked about a while back how Sony was working with Rackspace to design and deploy its Playstation cloud plans.

"OpenStack, a project Rackspace jointly created with NASA, is a global collaboration of developers and cloud computing technologists producing an open source cloud computing platform for public and private clouds."

militissanctus4269d ago

I'd totally forgotten about that, but you're right. I remember them mentioning it now. We'll see in due time, I guess.

futurefrog4269d ago

sounds like ps4 is a good console

militissanctus4269d ago

Definitely getting more and more excited for it

15 Last-Gen Games That Still Compete with Current-Gen Graphics

GB: "Say what you will about the state of the industry, but even as games evolve, their graphics remain a key aspect. Even some of the biggest flops this year sport some gorgeous visuals, as publishers and developers push the boundaries of what’s possible, pouring years of time and money into their work."

Quantum Break and Ryse are two that I was really surprised did not get an FPS boost option when played on the Series X|S. when i started playing both on the XBO, I thought they are both good, but after playing them also on my steam deck (in 60fps) I just cant go back and play the base games on XB. They really benefit from that faster frame rate.

Driveclub is another i wished had a HFR mode on PS5.

MatrixxGT226d ago

Most games this gen are the exact same except now we get faster loading through SSD and a res and fps bump. Graphically not much has improved, hell most last gen games are being relabeled and resold as “remastered” with the aforementioned updates.
I haven’t seen or played anything on either platform that couldn’t be run on last gen. Guess the law of diminishing returns is really showing itself these days.

127maXimus226d ago

Most games from 20 years ago are basically the same as today, with resolution and fps upgrades. The AI is still just as braindead as it always has been, worlds are full of static, boring characters that do the same thing over and over.

Demetrius226d ago

Smh another reason why graphics haven't improved that much is because most devs too caught up on cross gen. Ps4 was/still a dope console but time has moved on we're halfway close to a ps6 reveal and devs still will be making games on last gen in 2025. Then theres Microsoft purposely got the Xbox series s that causes more devs to try to pull strings as much as they can smh. It's a mixed bag of stuff, the only ones I see pushing hardware is sonys studios and even some indie games look better

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX234d ago (Edited 234d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne233d ago (Edited 233d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro234d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken233d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown234d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72234d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken233d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya233d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast234d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood234d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

Classic PS4 Racer DriveClub Is Now a Decade Old

PushSquare:

DriveClub, the legendary PS4 racer from shuttered Runcorn studio Evolution, has such an interesting story.

Originally announced alongside the PS4, the game had been intended as a launch title – we even played it in a big London church Sony had rented to showcase the new system prior to its release.

Evolution was done dirty... DC is still the most stunning visual game of its generation. They certainly deserved better in the end.

VenomUK248d ago (Edited 248d ago )

DriveClub was pretty and I loved the experience of driving in the rain, it was immersive. I had some good races with people from an old forum, but at times I found it to be a bit boring. MotorStorm was such a fun game to play and I loved the controls - it would make sense to remaster that.

DarXyde248d ago

I'd give the visual showcase award of the last generation to The Order: 1886. That game was immaculate.

Uncharted 4 was also absolutely insane, and perhaps manages to use the PS4's power in extremely clever ways.

jznrpg248d ago

It didn’t get good reviews unfortunately

obidanshinobi248d ago

Cause the game was mediocre at best, and surpassed in pretty much every area by Forza Horizon 2.

IRetrouk248d ago

Apart from visuals, driving model, weather effects, only thing forza had was an open world...

Inverno248d ago (Edited 248d ago )

It's multiplayer component was the only thing struggling at launch but the game was still perfectly playable offline. Done dirty is an understatement because how many games after came out with broken online components that got a pass? Now games with an SP and MP get separate reviews for SP and MP smh! SONY shut them down as if Evo had been bleeding money instead of putting out great games. Their fate was undeserved and they were the targets of a media smear campaign due to that one trailer.

Knushwood Butt248d ago

Loved it.
Now here's a game that would benefit from a remaster.
4K, 60 FPS
I'd buy it.

ravens52248d ago

Might have to fire it up. Got it day 1, it was great to me.

outsider1624248d ago

See? Another reason why physical is important. Going all digital will have you miss out games like this.

Gabrielmpf248d ago

I loved tackling the leaderboards. It's a shame they couldn't even keep them.

Yi-Long248d ago

Brilliant game, I really miss it, and it deserved so much better than what Sony did to it.
Most important reason I liked it; It was FUN. That’s it. The actual gameplay, throwing a car around corners, the challenging AI opponents, the entertaining tracks which were peak-design, etc etc, it was above all just FUN to play.
